In his state of deep meditation, Wang Ping felt his Primordial Spirit Consciousness become stronger than ever before.
The sensation felt both illusory and real. He could clearly perceive his Primordial Spirit Consciousness gazing down upon the entire Zhongzhou Continent. With a single thought, he could annihilate most of its inhabitants.
The immense power was intoxicating, captivating him from the depths of his soul. Yet it was only a fascination with the power itself and did not corrupt his humanity. His current state had summoned his entire consciousness, and his humanity remained rich and complete within it.
Just as he was reveling in this exhilarating power, a consciousness brimming with killing intent invaded. But in the next moment, it fell into a deep slumber. He clearly sensed it was Xiu Yu’s Primordial Spirit.
Next, Zi Luan’s Primordial Spirit Consciousness reached him. His consciousness was vibrant, as warm and gentle as jade, and filled with benevolence. Unlike Xiu Yu, he did not fall into slumber.
Wang Ping immediately understood. Xiu Yu’s slumber was a self-preservation measure of the Array. With a personality so one-dimensional, he would have been instantly lost and consumed by such immense power.
Suddenly, Wang Ping felt an indescribable gaze fall upon him. Fortunately, as the gaze descended, a protective barrier materialized around his consciousness, shielding him.
Wang Ping instinctively contemplated the sudden gaze. It was strange, giving him the sense of being omnipresent. The moment he perceived it, his memory even seemed to freeze for an instant, as if his own consciousness instinctively felt that accepting its scrutiny was the best course of action.
After being blocked, the gaze vanished as calmly as it had appeared. Then, Wang Ping sensed countless Spiritual Creatures materializing across the Zhongzhou Continent he controlled. As if by instinct, he knew in the next moment that they had appeared to obstruct his perception of the continent.
So, Wang Ping once again acted on instinct, preparing to use his supreme power to annihilate these Spiritual Creatures. But just as he was about to act, his consciousness inexplicably froze. The impulse to ’annihilate’ was forcibly changed to ’seal’!
Of course, Wang Ping was completely unaware that his intention had been forcibly altered.
Sensing the countless Spiritual Creatures being sealed away in an instant by his supreme power, an unprecedented joy bloomed deep within Wang Ping’s heart.
It was as if, in that moment, he was the supreme deity of the Zhongzhou Continent!
However, his joy was short-lived. An invisible force pierced through the worldly barrier under his control. When he once again instinctively tried to use his supreme power to seal this new force, he found that his seemingly omnipotent strength was useless against it.
But Wang Ping didn’t panic, for he was incapable of such an emotion at that moment. Discovering that he couldn’t seal the force, he mobilized his entire consciousness to suppress it instead.
Then, he felt Zi Luan’s presence. A moment later, Xiu Yu also awoke from his slumber. The three of them unleashed their full power, drawing upon the Wood Spirit Qi from more than half of Zhongzhou to suppress the invasive force!
Meanwhile, in the real world, this was actually the great tribulation of heaven and earth, triggered by Xiao Shan Lord’s absorption of the Wood Spirit Origin and his drawing of the Heaven-Stealing Talisman.
This tribulation was not a cataclysmic, earth-shattering event; instead, it acted directly upon Xiao Shan Lord’s body and consciousness.
After the Spirit Vein within Xiao Shan Lord’s body fused with the Wood Spirit Origin, it began assimilating the only remaining part of his flesh and blood: his head. As a result, his memories were thrown into a state of brief, inevitable chaos.
Furthermore, the formation of the Heaven-Stealing Talisman required Xiao Shan Lord to directly face the endless Celestial Dao. Fortunately, he had preemptively sealed himself within his constructed Divine Country using a Divine Technique Formation, allowing him to evade the majority of the Celestial Dao’s power. However, the aspect of the Celestial Dao that resided within his own subconscious was impossible to escape.
During this brief period of mnemonic chaos, this portion of the Celestial Dao easily invaded his consciousness, attempting to alter his memories. Fortunately, the compound Array constructed by Wang Ping, Zi Luan, and Xiu Yu activated at that moment, suppressing part of this invasive consciousness.
Nevertheless, a small fragment of that consciousness successfully infiltrated Xiao Shan Lord’s memories and managed to alter them. Simultaneously, his Spiritual Body completed its final assimilation. The very instant the complete Spirit Body formed, it inevitably began to distort. A dense Wood Spirit Aura caused a layer of green, moss-like vegetation to seep out onto the surface of his skin.
In the next moment, the entire golden hall was flooded with Wood Spirit Qi. Countless ancient plants instantly filled the hall’s interior. Xiao Shan Lord’s Spiritual Body was now completely distorted, appearing to transform into a thousand-year-old pagoda tree, while his Primordial Spirit remained submerged beneath the majestic power of the Heaven-Stealing Talisman.
The physical bodies and Primordial Spirits of Wang Ping, Zi Luan, and Xiu Yu were also on the verge of being devoured by the wildly surging Wood Spirit Qi!
At the critical moment, the Divine Technique Spells encircling the walls of the golden hall erupted in brilliant golden light, suppressing the spread of the Wood Spirit Qi. At the same time, the Divine Skill Map beneath the hall surged with immense energy. The collective will of the people born from it granted Xiao Shan Lord’s Primordial Spirit a fleeting moment of clarity, but he quickly lapsed back into confusion.
However, he regained his clarity in the next instant. After this repeated dozens of times, Xiao Shan Lord finally seized a gap of lucidity to form a Spell with his hand.
The Divine Skill Map instantly emitted a blinding, divine golden light, and then Xiao Shan Lord’s Primordial Spirit once again fell into a daze.
「A few moments later.」
Xiao Shan Lord seized another moment of clarity to summon a puppet. Without a second thought, his Primordial Spirit devoured the puppet’s memories.
After assimilating the puppet’s memories, Xiao Shan Lord’s Primordial Spirit was finally no longer bewildered.
In the next moment, he performed a Spell to gather the collective will of the people from the Divine Skill Map. But as the divine golden light converged around his Primordial Spirit, his memory faltered. He seemed to have forgotten what to do next.
Moreover, a voice in the depths of his mind kept telling him, ’You must complete the assimilation with the Wood Spirit as quickly as possible.’ Fortunately, the voice was suppressed as soon as it appeared by the compound Array that still lay beneath him. He then clearly sensed the Primordial Spirits of Wang Ping, Zi Luan, and Xiu Yu.
Following that, he sensed a fragment of his own memories stored within the compound Array. After reabsorbing this fragment, his illusory Primordial Spirit solidified. He looked at his distorted Spiritual Body and blasted it with all the divine golden light he had gathered.
The torrent of divine light became incredibly violent, suppressing the Wood Spirit Qi within the golden hall. It stripped the dense vegetation from the surface of the distorted Spiritual Body, revealing a constantly writhing mass that was the Wood Spirit Vein.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Xiao Shan Lord merged his Primordial Spirit into the Spirit Vein. The Spirit Vein then dissolved into countless tiny, dark-green particles. They attempted to escape the control of his Primordial Spirit Will, but failed. In an instant, they fused back together and began to shift into a humanoid form.
「A dozen breaths later.」
With a final contortion of his facial features, Xiao Shan Lord returned to his original appearance. Then, the Spirit Vein inside him stirred, instantly manifesting a set of grayish-white Daoist robes upon his body.
At that moment, more memories streamed in through the Array connecting him to Wang Ping, Zi Luan, and Xiu Yu. The lingering confusion in his eyes was replaced by calm and clarity.
But immediately after, his physical body began to split apart again.
"Of course, it wouldn’t be that simple!"
Xiao Shan Lord muttered to himself as he used a Divine Technique to stabilize his fragmenting body. He then turned his gaze toward the Heaven-Stealing Talisman.
The final step of his ascension was to fuse with the Heaven-Stealing Talisman. If he succeeded, he would finally break through to the Realm of True Monarch!
But for this step, he could no longer rely on any Divine Technique.
