Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Blueprint
Hou Fei had only agreed to join after Dr. Feng’s Robot had been stabilized. At the mention of this, Hou Fei’s face flushed, and he was about to explain himself.
Feng Feifei shook her head. "Hou Fei, you don’t have to explain. I’m not blaming any of you. If I were in your shoes, I might have made the same choice."
"But that’s precisely what highlights Chen Xiao’s immense contribution to the company. He stayed with us during our most difficult period and, through his own efforts, single-handedly turned the tide, creating the success the company enjoys today!"
"This is a scenario I wouldn’t have even dared to dream about. In the past, we’d have to follow up on a one or two-million-yuan order for six months, sometimes longer, and even after spending a fortune on relationship-building, we’d often end up with nothing!"
"But Chen Xiao seems to possess the Midas touch, the ability to turn dross into gold. Ever since he took over sales, it’s like he’s a natural magnet for orders. They just keep coming, you can’t stop them. I think he even seemed a little overwhelmed by it all today!"
Hou Fei’s face turned ashen as he listened. ’Troubled by too many orders? I’d fucking love to be that troubled! Drown me in them!’
"So, Hou Fei, I’ve always believed that everything this company has today is thanks to Chen Xiao. It’s not just him being a little temperamental. Even if he were to burn this company to the ground today, I’d just treat it as him taking back what he brought to the table. We’d simply be back at square one."
The longer Hou Fei listened, the uglier his expression became. ’If you talk like that,’ he thought, ’who in this company will ever be able to manage him? Won’t his ego inflate to the heavens?’
Feng Feifei had indeed said this for him to hear. She had noticed Hou Fei’s dissatisfaction with Chen Xiao and used her words to deliver a subtle warning. She needed him to understand that, in her eyes, Chen Xiao was irreplaceable. She hoped Hou Fei would learn his place and not put her in a difficult position.
"But, Feifei, if a company has no respect for hierarchy, if there’s a privileged individual who completely disregards management policies, how is it supposed to be managed?"
"Hou Fei, what company wouldn’t grant special privileges to someone like Chen Xiao, who brings in hundreds of millions in orders a month?"
’Holy shit, that’s insane,’ Hou Fei thought, his heart pounding every time he heard that number. ’A single salesperson bringing in hundreds of millions in orders a month? That’s not a man, that’s a monster!’
Just then, the client representative from XX Company knocked on the door and came in, saying urgently, "To both of you, I’ve reported back to my company. We’ll sign the order for 20 million. I just ask that you please coordinate things with President Chen Xiao."
Feng Feifei and Hou Fei stared at each other, utterly dumbfounded.
’It worked just like that?’
Hou Fei looked at the client representative with an expression of utter exasperation, a silent despair in his eyes. ’Girl, being a simp gets you nowhere,’ he thought. ’You’re fawning all over him. Aside from making him feel good, what do you get out of it?’
Feng Feifei was already on the phone with the finance department, telling Xia Yun to prepare the company seal and asking for Chen Xiao to come by.
"Chen Xiao, XX Company has agreed to your terms. They’re signing the contract for a 20-million-yuan order!"
Feng Feifei said gently to Chen Xiao.
Chen Xiao just said, "Oh," and glanced at his watch. He then turned to the representative from XX Company. "Have Ma Jing go over the contract with you in a bit. I accept the 20-million-yuan order."
Seeing his nonchalant attitude, Hou Fei’s temper flared. He couldn’t help but snap, "Chen Xiao, you’re handing a 20-million-yuan order over to your assistant? Isn’t that a bit reckless? You’re right here, why not handle it yourself?"
Without even looking at him, Chen Xiao said, "Ma Jing is more professional than I am. Besides, I have to head out for something."
Hou Fei laughed in exasperation. "What could you possibly have to do in the middle of the day? Everyone else has already clocked out for the lunch break."
"Isn’t eating lunch and taking a nap important?"
Chen Xiao couldn’t be bothered to engage, saying it just to provoke him.
’I can’t take this anymore!’ Hou Fei turned to Feng Feifei, his voice full of anger. "President Feng, look at his attitude!"
Feng Feifei sighed helplessly. "Chen Xiao really has been working hard lately. He needs a proper rest. As the president, I’ve always prioritized the physical and mental health of my employees. So, Chen Xiao, go on and take care of your business."
"The 20-million-yuan order is also very important. Have Ma Jing bring it to me. I’ll personally follow up on it."
It seemed she was giving both sides a way to back down gracefully, but Hou Fei was still deeply unsatisfied. He stormed out in a huff.
’I’ve never seen a salesperson so spoiled,’ he fumed. ’This is ridiculous!’
"Chen Xiao, go ahead. Also, I want you to consider something. With your current workload, is Ma Jing able to handle everything on her own? Should we assign you another assistant?"
’Another one?’ he thought. ’That’s like getting an assistant for my assistant, Ma Jing!’
"It would be best to get one more. Let Ma Jing train them and get them up to speed. The workload is only going to get heavier."
After a moment’s thought, Chen Xiao agreed that they needed more people.
The client representative from XX Company had already gone out to go over the contract with Ma Jing. Feng Feifei continued, "In that case, let’s promote Ma Jing one rank. Are you sure you don’t want to consider a change in your own job title?"
’I’ve worked so hard to save up 32 Diligence Points,’ he thought frantically. ’Don’t you go and ruin it for me by "rewarding" me!’
"No, no, President Feng! I love my job as a salesperson. I’m committed to it until death!"
His response made Feng Feifei laugh. She shook her head, thinking to herself, ’What a weirdo.’
She figured he just didn’t want the extra responsibility and that’s why he didn’t want to be a leader.
"Alright then. Your job title will stay the same, but I’ll raise your rank one level, to P7."
’I can live with that,’ he thought. Even though he didn’t really care about the daily basic stipend income anymore, every little bit helps. It all adds up.
"Last time, I asked you to look into new office spaces. I’ve been thinking about it, and given our current rate of growth, I’m afraid just moving to a new office building isn’t going to be enough."
"We’re going to be getting into R&D and manufacturing, so it’s best if we do it all in one go and build our own campus. Only that will be enough for our long-term development."
"It’ll prevent us from moving into a new office only to have to relocate again a few months later."
The last time she’d asked Chen Xiao to look for an office, their business volume was in the tens of millions. But lately, Chen Xiao had gone even more berserk—he was turning his nose up at 5-million-yuan orders, wasn’t personally handling 20-million-yuan deals, and was going straight for orders in the hundreds of millions.
She felt she needed to be much bolder in her planning.
Building their own campus could be part of a five-to-ten-year plan. Plus, the property would be a company asset, which was much better than just renting office space.
If they just rented office space, they’d have to separate R&D, manufacturing, and administrative offices, which would be inconvenient.
Chen Xiao agreed with her. He even urged her to be bolder, to take bigger strides, promising they wouldn’t "trip over their own dicks."
This earned him an eye-roll from Feng Feifei. What did he mean, they wouldn’t "trip over their own dicks"? The man really didn’t think before he spoke. As if she had any to trip over in the first place.
But what she heard next from Chen Xiao was even more outrageous.
He suggested her plan should include building a high-end international research platform and applying for qualifications as a national postdoctoral research station and a Hanjiang Province doctoral research station.
It should also include joint programs with universities to cultivate engineering doctorates and master’s students.
They needed to build a world-class research team that wasn’t limited to just AI data analysis.
They had to broaden their horizons and accumulate a portfolio of proprietary, core technologies.
