Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Peacock Man

Cha Lan, however, had a different perspective. President Chen was truly a trailblazer in the industry; no one had ever signed contracts or handled payments this way.

It was as if clients were eagerly begging to do business with him. ’Simps. They’re all simps!’

Just then, their round of cards finished, and the restaurant owner began serving the food.

Seizing the opportunity, Li Guoqiang had Yang Ming bring out the contract. He already knew the drill.

The business was split clearly between Dr. Feng’s Robot and Zhi Fei Aerospace: a 6 million order for Dr. Feng’s Robot, and a 4 million order for Zhi Fei Aerospace.

Cha Lan thanked them profusely, claiming, "This is all thanks to President Chen!"

"Oh? It sounds like you’re not giving President Li any credit at all. President Li, you’d better have a few extra drinks with President Cha today and make a lasting impression!"

The men burst into laughter again.

They had all met back when they were nobodies, so the atmosphere between them was excellent. They were among the few people Chen Xiao was willing to associate with in private.

「Jiangzhou Wansheng Square」

Today was Xu Jia’s first time conducting a store inspection after starting her new position.

As she was the deputy manager of the retail department conducting an inspection, a supervisor naturally accompanied her to provide details on the store’s personnel, sales, and so on.

Both Xu Jia and the supervisor found the situation awkward. A year ago, when Xu Jia was still just a store clerk, this same supervisor had been in charge of this very store.

Back then, the supervisor had been Xu Jia’s boss’s boss. Now, after Xu Jia had taken a year off, she’d returned to become the supervisor’s immediate superior.

’Who says hard work is the only way to get ahead? Look at her—clearly, a good long rest is the real key to a better job!’

"Ma’am, the staff at this store hasn’t really changed. Do you need me to go over everyone again?"

Xu Jia shook her head. She had worked in this store for nearly six years; she knew it so well she could point out every crack in the walls. She knew the place better than the supervisor did.

"This store’s performance has always been the best in the company," the supervisor explained. "More than half of that is because Zhao Xiangjun is just that good. She brings in half the store’s revenue all by herself!"

"She’s always been incredible!" Xu Jia said, beaming with pride. She was happier hearing Zhao Xiangjun praised than she was receiving compliments herself.

The supervisor was well aware of their relationship; it was no secret that they were best friends.

"Performance has taken a big hit lately. For one thing, Zhao Xiangjun had a family issue and took a few days off. The difference in sales when she’s here versus when she’s gone is still very noticeable."

"On top of that, a few days ago, the deputy supervisor from the logistics department kicked Wansheng Group’s regional manager so hard he fell flat on his face... right here in the store. We were forced to close for a few days. We’re open now, but the mall management is constantly giving us trouble, nitpicking everything we do."

Xu Jia hadn’t heard about this yet. "Why did he kick him?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

The supervisor recounted the incident.

’That guy was asking for it! Peng Yu was just asking to get his ass kicked! If I’d been there, I would’ve clawed his face to ribbons!’

"Let me tell you," she said to the supervisor, "from now on, if anyone tries to bully Xiangjun in this store, you tell the other girls to go scratch his eyes out. I’ll take full responsibility for whatever happens!"

The supervisor jumped. ’Ma’am, we’re a business! The customer is always right!’

’Who encourages their staff to get into fights with customers? She clearly didn’t know Xu Jia’s personality. If you messed with Zhao Xiangjun, Xu Jia would fight you to the death. If she couldn’t scratch you to death, she’d bite you to death!’

Zhao Xiangjun was used to the sales floor and enjoyed her busy, fulfilling life. Lately, however, things had been getting on her nerves.

First, there was the incident with Peng Yu. Now, there was this Xia Bin, who, ever since finding out she worked at this store, had been showing up almost every day as if he were clocking in for a shift.

And just now, he’d shown up again, this time with a bouquet of roses. Zhao Xiangjun pretended she didn’t see him.

"Xiangjun, please accept these. These ninety-nine roses represent my passionate love for you..."

Zhao Xiangjun felt like she was about to snap. It was absolutely nauseating.

Pointing to a cleaning lady outside, she said, "Take them away. You can either throw them in the trash yourself or give them to her and let her do it for you."

With that, she turned and walked toward the break room without a backward glance. It was the only place she could get away from him.

Seeing her pull the same trick again, Xia Bin wasn’t about to let her get away. He hurried after her, only to be stopped when someone suddenly grabbed his sleeve.

"President Kong, what do you think you’re doing?"

With that tug, Zhao Xiangjun slipped into the break room. Xia Bin flew into a rage. "Let go, you ugly hag! You’ve got the wrong person!" he snarled, whipping his head around.

’President Kong? I’m Xia Bin, you idiot!’

’He called *me* an ugly hag? I was already at my limit watching him harass Zhao Xiangjun, and now he has the nerve to call *me* ugly?’

Her eyes filled with murderous intent. "President Kong," she said, "what exactly are you trying to pull in our store?"

Xia Bin shouted, "My surname is Xia, not Kong! You’ve got the wrong person!"

"I didn’t get it wrong. Aren’t you that ’Peacock Man’ from the high-speed train station?"

So that’s why she’d called him President Kong. Xia Bin was furious, but he also remembered her now—she was the girl who had been with Zhao Xiangjun at the station.

He reined in his anger, trying his best to maintain a gentlemanly facade. "I’ve seen you before," he said. "You’re Zhao Xiangjun’s good friend!"

Xu Jia retorted sarcastically, "I’m so ugly, I couldn’t possibly be worthy of being her friend."

Xia Bin instantly regretted his loose tongue. Offending her best friend would be a major setback in his pursuit of her.

"I apologize. How about we find a place to talk?"

Seeing that Zhao Xiangjun was in the break room, he realized this was his only option. He decided to try a flanking maneuver: win over the best friend first.

Xu Jia was disdainful, but a mischievous glint appeared in her eye. She smiled. "Alright. What do you want to talk about?"

"It’s not very convenient here, is it? Why don’t we go to a cafe nearby?"

Xia Bin spread his hands, gesturing at the busy store to indicate he wanted to find somewhere quieter to talk.

Xu Jia inwardly scoffed. ’Just a minute ago you weren’t worried about making a scene.’ Curious to see what he was up to, she told the supervisor to hold down the fort, saying she’d be right back.

Inside the cafe, the two sat facing each other.

"Miss, let’s start over. I’m Xia Bin, the general manager of Four Seasons Clothing."

"Xu Jia. One ugly hag. Retail staff at the Yino Jiangzhou Branch."

Xia Bin looked a bit embarrassed. "I apologize. Please forgive my slip of the tongue."

"Wow, you almost seem human when you’re being polite," Xu Jia sneered.

Xia Bin cursed her inwardly, but for the sake of his goal, he maintained his polished demeanor.

"You’re just kidding," he said, forcing a smile. "By the way, I can tell you and Zhao Xiangjun are very good friends, aren’t you?"

Xu Jia said, "What if we are?"

Xia Bin gathered his thoughts. "You probably don’t know much about Four Seasons Clothing, do you?"

"Yino Company pays my salary, and I don’t even know everything about them. Why would I bother learning about some unrelated company like Four Seasons Clothing?"

He ignored her jab and launched into a proud introduction of Four Seasons Clothing.

"Four Seasons Clothing is the largest retail enterprise in Hanjiang Province, with annual sales exceeding 1.2 billion. We represent over ten brands, and three of them—’Sa Mo,’ ’Ledi,’ and ’Erte’—bring in 500 million a year on their own!"

He had seven other brands, but they were so niche that they could only be placed in a few high-end malls. This limited their distribution channels; while individual store performance was good, their overall scale was insufficient.
