Chapter 155 - 153: Feng Feifei’s InvitationChapter 155: Chapter 153: Feng Feifei’s Invitation
When he saw Hou Fei was with her, he immediately cursed inwardly, ’Is this guy a jinx? Nothing good ever happens when I run into him!’
"Are you also one of President Hou’s subordinates? Joining us tonight?" Li Man asked, looking at the handsome young man before her. The more she looked, the more she liked him; he was much better looking than her own male assistant.
Hou Fei said, "No, we didn’t invite him."
Chen Xiao found it incredibly rude that this woman had bumped into him and, instead of apologizing, was just prying with questions. However, he wasn’t about to argue with a woman, so he just nodded at Hou Fei and his companion before heading to the private room Li Guoqiang had booked.
Then he heard the woman say, "Oh, is that so? Well, no matter. We can give him a chance later to come over and offer a toast. Let him expand his network a bit."
Chen Xiao didn’t understand what she meant, nor did he have any interest in figuring it out.
Hou Fei, on the other hand, understood what Li Man was thinking. ’I have no authority over him,’ he thought. ’Now, if you were interested in me or Yuan Kai, that’s something I could help arrange!’
It seemed to prove the old saying: the most important people are always fashionably late.
They waited at the entrance for a full five minutes before a Buick GL8 minivan slowly pulled up.
Li Man hurried forward a few steps. The minivan came to a stop, and the automatic door slid open.
Hou Fei and the others first saw a snow-white, slender leg emerge from the vehicle, attached to a foot in a delicate high heel. It was a stunning sight!
Who would have thought President Gao was such a stunning beauty!
When President Gao finally stepped out of the car, a few of the lechers in the group felt she was so dazzlingly beautiful they could hardly open their eyes.
This was partly because President Gao had dressed up meticulously, and partly because, with good things happening to her recently, she was in high spirits. Being flattered wherever she went had gradually strengthened her aura.
She had transformed from a pretty girl into a sophisticated beauty, and her allure to men had skyrocketed.
"President Gao..."
"President Gao..."
If Chen Xiao had gone in a bit later and run into them, he would have wanted to laugh. Gao Yue was gradually turning into Xu Wu, imitating her in many ways.
But it was a clumsy imitation that only captured the form, not the spirit. Even so, it was surprisingly effective at intimidating people.
Gao Yue nodded slightly and entered the restaurant under Li Man’s guidance, but she didn’t say a single word to the older men.
Yet Hou Fei and the others found this perfectly normal. ’Isn’t that how important people act?’
Once inside the private room, Li Man, without asking for Hou Fei’s opinion, directly invited Gao Yue to take the seat of honor.
Gao Yue made a show of refusing before gracefully accepting and sitting at the head of the table. Her gaze swept over everyone as she said, "You’re all President Li’s friends, so please, don’t stand on ceremony. Everyone, have a seat!"
Only then did the older men take their seats. Li Man and Hou Fei sat on either side of Gao Yue.
Li Man introduced everyone to Gao Yue. Since Hou Fei was the host, she was careful to respect his standing and gave him a special introduction.
Gao Yue nodded politely at Hou Fei and said with a smile, "Impressive. I’ve always respected high-level intellectuals. A great mind like Dr. Hou is someone I’ve always admired!"
Hou Fei immediately grinned from ear to ear and said, "President Gao, you’re too kind. We should connect more when we have the chance!"
Gao Yue just lowered her head to sip her water. ’Who wants to connect with an old man like you? Wouldn’t that time be better spent at a spa with my girlfriends?’
Hou Fei, being a bit socially clueless, thought Gao Yue was genuinely impressed and began to ramble on about his own rise to fame.
He talked about the various scholarships he had won, the awards he had received, the distinguished young scholar grants, and so on.
Gao Yue couldn’t stand it anymore. Seeing that the food would still take a while to arrive, she stood up to go to the restroom. Li Man stood up to accompany her.
"President Li, your friend is a bit... dense."
Li Man sighed. "He’s a bookworm. His emotional intelligence is just too low. He can’t even tell when someone is just being polite."
"Let’s find a place to sit for a while."
Gao Yue really couldn’t stand Hou Fei. She found a seat in the main hall, and Li Man sat with her to chat.
"Huh?"
Gao Yue suddenly stood up, and Li Man immediately followed suit.
"I saw someone I know. I’m going to go say hello."
Li Man followed Gao Yue’s gaze and saw a middle-aged man, about fifty years old, at the bar asking for some liquor.
Gao Yue walked over. "President Li, what a coincidence!"
The man was indeed Li Guoqiang. He was having dinner with Cha Lan and Chen Xiao tonight and hadn’t expected to run into Gao Yue here.
"Xiao Gao, you’re eating here too?"
Gao Yue smiled sweetly and replied, "Yes. And you are here for...?"
Li Guoqiang said, "I’m having dinner with two friends tonight. One of them only drinks Maotai, so I came to the bar to ask about it. I’m mainly worried it might not be authentic."
Gao Yue knew what he meant. That particular liquor was hard to buy and fakes were common. The fact that his guest only drank Maotai clearly meant they were a connoisseur.
If they drank it and realized it was fake, it would be incredibly embarrassing.
She asked which private room Li Guoqiang was in and said she would come over to offer a toast later.
Gao Yue was Ding Yong’s right-hand woman and also Xu Wu’s best friend, so Li Guoqiang was more than happy to show her due respect. He told her his room number and said he would introduce his two friends to her as well.
But he thought to himself, ’I bet Xiao Gao doesn’t know that Chen Xiao is her best friend’s boss. After all, even Ding Yong hasn’t managed to get in touch with Chen Xiao yet.’
When Gao Yue returned, she told Li Man, "That was a friend of President Ding’s. I went to say hello."
Li Man was instantly filled with respect. A friend of President Gao’s boss couldn’t be just anyone.
She was in the renovation business and was always eager to get to know big bosses like that. Any project from them would be a major one.
The two sat and chatted for a while longer. It wasn’t until they saw the staff begin to serve dishes to their room that they leisurely returned.
Seeing the two return, Hou Fei immediately had Yuan Kai open the liquor.
"President Gao, President Li, I was afraid the restaurant wouldn’t have any good baijiu, so I brought a few bottles of Wuliangye today!"
Gao Yue said nonchalantly, "President Hou, you’re too kind. I don’t really drink. A glass of juice will be fine for me."
Hou Fei was taken aback. ’If you don’t drink, why did I bother bringing good liquor?’ But then he remembered he wasn’t the one paying for it, which made him feel a little better.
He didn’t notice Li Man flinch. ’President Gao can drink anyone under the table, so why isn’t she drinking today?’
Then she recalled the conversation President Gao just had with that other President Li: "My friend only drinks Maotai."
’Now that’s a high-class line,’ she thought.
