Chapter 172: Chapter 159: Call Me Daddy (2)
President Qian had had too much to drink, so Zhang Jun stayed behind to keep an eye on him. After all, he was the host; if a guest had an issue because of the alcohol, it would be his problem.
The others went over to Feng Feifei’s private room to offer a toast. With a whole group of company presidents gathered, it was quite a magnificent sight.
These people had no beef with Chen Xiao, and since they were all in the same industry, Feng Feifei and Chen Xiao naturally showed them some courtesy.
But they all used soft drinks in place of alcohol. In the end, they exchanged contact information and made some small talk. The most over-the-top was President Liu, who actually asked President Chen Xiao when he would be free so he could pay a formal visit!
It was as if the world had been turned upside down. Even Feng Feifei, who already knew Chen Xiao was impressive, had no idea he was *this* impressive!
When the group returned, Zhang Jun was a little baffled. He was, after all, a client of some of these companies and even needed to secure orders from them.
Despite his powerful background and his position as the Deputy General Manager of a major corporation like Nantong Group, he still had to treat these people as his equals.
What had Chen Xiao possibly done to deserve their favor?
But he had no idea that it wasn’t the man they were fawning over, but his money.
Zhang Jun felt that after the group returned, the atmosphere in the room was completely off. He was supposed to be the host, yet all the presidents were huddled together, whispering about Dr. Feng’s Robot.
After a few rounds of drinks, everyone was a bit tipsy. They exchanged a few more pleasantries, and then the dinner party broke up.
Down in the parking garage, Zhang Jun deliberately glanced over to where Feng Feifei had parked. He saw Chen Xiao standing next to her car, saying goodbye.
Emboldened by the alcohol, he swaggered over, dangling the keys to his Land Rover. "Keep working hard, Xiao Chen," he said. "Maybe one day you’ll own a real man’s dream car!"
Seeing this, Feng Feifei furrowed her fine brows. "Zhang Jun, you’re drunk. You should head home."
Chen Xiao didn’t seem to mind. He just smiled. "A Range Rover? No thanks, I’m not short on SUVs."
Zhang Jun roared with laughter. "Not all SUVs are created equal..."
Chen Xiao nodded, as if in complete agreement. "You’ve got a point."
’I wonder if Xiangjun saw this coming,’ he thought. ’Is that why she bought one for me? If not, this guy would’ve actually managed to show off on me today!’
He turned back to her. "President Feng, you should get going. Drive safely!"
He and Zhang Jun watched Feng Feifei leave, waiting until her taillights had completely disappeared from view.
Zhang Jun’s expression grew even more contemptuous, his tone turning icy. "So, Xiao Chen, how are you getting home? Don’t tell me you’re going to hail a cab..."
Chen Xiao gave a small, dry laugh. "It’s fine. I drove."
He gave a nod and walked straight toward his car. ’He’s in the same class as Hou Fei,’ he thought. ’The moron brigade.’
He figured that classmates like this were probably the reason Feng Feifei was still single. A guy of this caliber was nowhere near worthy of the gentle, classy, and spirited President Feng Feifei.
Zhang Jun watched him with a cold glare, absolutely furious that some worthless salesman had stolen his thunder.
Chen Xiao’s car was parked farther away, so he started walking toward it. Just as he reached the front of his vehicle, a Land Rover Range Rover pulled up behind him.
The front passenger window rolled down, and Zhang Jun stuck his head out. "Xiao Chen, want to hop in and experience a real man’s dream ride?"
Chen Xiao shook his head. "No thanks. That’s not my dream."
Zhang Jun burst out laughing. "I can’t wait to see what kind of car you drive!"
Chen Xiao lifted the key fob in his hand and pressed a button. The running lights of a Brabus G900 flared to life.
"See ya!"
Only then did Zhang Jun notice it—the pinnacle of SUVs, an aggressively stylish and attention-grabbing beast. And that worthless salesman was, at this very moment, pulling open the door and climbing into the driver’s seat.
With a roar from the engine, Chen Xiao’s car was already far down the road.
Zhang Jun was still in the passenger seat, staring dumbfounded into the distance. ’Is that a fucking salesman?’
’Since when are there salesmen that badass in this world?’
When he got home, Zhao Xiangjun was mopping the living room floor.
Chen Xiao flopped onto the sofa. "We should hire a cleaning lady. Your delicate hands aren’t meant for this kind of work."
Zhao Xiangjun had tied her shoulder-length hair into a ponytail to make her work easier, giving her an exceptionally sharp and competent look.
Hearing this, she retorted, "If not for this, then what are they for? When I was a kid, I planted rice seedlings and pulled up weeds. There’s nothing I haven’t done. And you want to hire someone just to mop the floor? Aren’t you afraid of getting rusty!"
"How could that be possible? I’ll help you polish them a few more times. They won’t get rusty, I guarantee they’ll always be soft and supple as water."
Zhao Xiangjun scoffed. "Oh, please, Your Lordship. Just shut up and rest for a bit."
Chen Xiao said, "Or I can do it. Manual labor like this is better suited for a man."
When Zhao Xiangjun saw him stand up, she quickly moved the mop behind her back. "Stop, stop! You stay lying down. Don’t ’help’ and just make a bigger mess!"
Chen Xiao was disgruntled. ’Why does she have so little faith in me?’
’It’s not that I want to be lazy,’ he thought, ’she just won’t give me the chance.’ With a clear conscience, he lay back down.
「The next morning at 10:30.」
Wu Fang brought a stack of approval forms for President Zhao Hui to sign. Afterward, he was to take them to the General Manager for their signature.
Wu Fang was genuinely starting to admire the new President Zhao. He had thought the proposed marketing budget was a complete fantasy, yet President Zhao had actually gotten it approved by the head office!
With this much money for marketing, they could really go all out!
The only thing was, the deal to use 10 million to negotiate with Dr. Feng’s Robot—for purchasing intelligent equipment and using AI to create photo-op spots in the mall to drive foot traffic—made his heart ache a little. That was 10 million, after all.
But Zhao Hui’s next words immediately made him break into a wide grin.
Zhao Hui explained that once the deal with Dr. Feng’s Robot was finalized, the group would allocate another 10 million for sales promotion activities.
My god! That meant 12 million this year for cash-back coupons. They had never been so flush with cash!
Back when the company was still Jiangzhou Wansheng, he recalled that the annual budget for sales promotions never exceeded 500,000. This was a 24-fold increase!
