Chapter 207: Chapter 171
Chen Xiao couldn’t be bothered with this kind of person.
President Wu thought he was just putting on an act, but to Chen Xiao, if he were going to show off, he’d at least pick a worthy audience. What was there to prove in front of someone like President Wu?
’President Wu, you’re far too confident!’
"Tao Yong, something came up. I’ll treat you to tea later!"
Chen Xiao zipped up and left, not wanting to waste another second talking to them. That included Tao Yong; the last class reunion had already exhausted all his patience for the man.
’Fuck, is it appropriate to offer to buy someone tea right after you take a piss? And the key thing is, you offer to buy him tea but don’t even mention me?’
President Wu was visibly annoyed. Wu Fang hadn’t shown him any respect, and now some lousy salesman—just Xiao Tao’s classmate, no less—also dared to disrespect him.
He threw his cigarette butt on the floor. Just then, there was a knock from outside the restroom, and a cleaning lady came in to tidy up.
As soon as she entered, the lady shook her head. "Who has no manners? This is an enclosed space, and the smoke is so thick!"
The office had a designated smoking area, and the restroom’s ventilation fan wasn’t fast enough to clear out the smell. Scolded indirectly by the cleaning lady, a beet-red President Wu led Tao Yong out.
President Wu wanted to try again with Wu Fang. He knew the deal wouldn’t be finalized today, so his main goal was to schedule a dinner with him to build some rapport privately.
Just then, Chen Xiao walked past Wu Fang’s office, and Wu Fang was watching him go, his face wreathed in smiles.
As President Wu and Tao Yong approached, Tao Yong asked, "Director, you know Chen Xiao as well?"
Wu Fang, who had been looking displeased with them, immediately perked up at Tao Yong’s question. "What? You two know him?"
Tao Yong immediately whispered, "He’s my high school classmate!"
’Holy crap, why didn’t you say so earlier?’ Wu Fang’s face paled slightly. He was terrified that Chen Xiao would find out he’d been giving his classmate a hard time and make trouble for him later.
Trying to salvage the situation, he quickly put on a smile and waved them over. "Come, come! Let’s continue our discussion and finalize the insurance matter!"
"Please, have a seat here. I’ll make you some tea!"
President Wu and Tao Yong had no idea what was happening. In a matter of moments, Wu Fang had become a completely different person. ’Did he perform in a face-changing opera before this job?’
As Wu Fang prepared the tea, he said, "This is from my personal stash, not the stuff we use for general guests!"
President Wu and Tao Yong were a bit overwhelmed by the favor. Just moments ago, they had been sitting there for ages and hadn’t been offered so much as a sip of plain water, let alone Wu Fang’s personal tea.
Wu Fang placed two cups of tea in front of them, smiling warmly at President Wu. "President Wu, your company is quite capable. You meet our requirements for a partner."
It was a sudden, wonderful turn of events. President Wu’s face flushed with excitement. "Rest assured, Director," he said emotionally, "our company’s claim payment ability and process are all customer-centric!"
Wu Fang nodded. ’Finally managed to salvage that,’ he thought. ’President Chen shouldn’t hold it against me now, right?’
After they finished discussing business, Wu Fang, now knowing Tao Yong was Chen Xiao’s classmate, wished he could keep him there to chat for a day and a night.
During the small talk, Tao Yong asked, "Director, was Chen Xiao also here to discuss business with you?"
Wu Fang froze for a second, then quickly said, "No, no, I’m not yet clear on the purpose of his visit!"
President Wu snorted coldly. "Xiao Tao, that classmate of yours isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. He came to talk business but couldn’t even explain things clearly!"
’Good heavens! You’re saying *he’s* not the sharpest tool?’ Wu Fang sucked in a sharp breath.
Tao Yong added, "He was fine back in school. I guess since entering the workforce, he’s been beaten down by the harsh realities of life."
’Wait, what’s going on?’ Wu Fang was utterly confused. ’This classmate relationship doesn’t seem to be what I thought it was!’
"President Tao, you didn’t all come together?"
Tao Yong and President Wu had arrived at the square just before or after Chen Xiao, and Wu Fang had mistakenly assumed they were all one party.
President Wu snorted again. "Director, no matter how down on our luck we are, we wouldn’t stoop to associating with him. Look at him, he’s like a common bum!"
And Tao Yong didn’t even say a word in his classmate’s defense.
Wu Fang was so scared he started trembling. He stood up and said, "I have something else to attend to. If you’ll both excuse yourselves."
President Wu and Tao Yong were stunned. ’Is this Wu Fang a psycho? How can he be so hot and cold!’
As they got up, President Wu asked, "Well, Director, what about the follow-up process for the commercial insurance?"
Wu Fang cut him off directly. "We’ll talk about that later..."
"But... didn’t we just agree on it?"
Wu Fang’s face was ashen. ’Damn it,’ he thought, ’who could have known your version of a ’classmate relationship’ was so different from mine!’
’You call President Chen a bum? You’re screwed, and now you’re trying to drag me down with you!’
"You two should hurry up and leave. I’m busy!"
Wu Fang showed them out with a livid face. Once they were out of the office area, Tao Yong said, "That guy must be schizophrenic!"
President Wu said, "Let’s come back another time. Today was just bizarre. Damn it, it’s mainly because of that classmate of yours. I feel like I’m cursed with bad luck whenever I run into him!"
Tao Yong forced a smile, but he was just as frustrated. ’Why is it that nothing good ever happens when Chen Xiao is around?’
He never stopped to think: in any of his encounters with Chen Xiao, had he himself ever been doing anything good?
Chen Xiao entered the conference room. Xu Jun was just about finished with his presentation on the Tianlong Square and Wanhong Square projects.
He took a seat just as Xu Jun began discussing the acquisition status of the two plazas.
Both of these commercial plazas were collaborations between the developer and a property management company.
The model was that the management company would run the operations and pay a substantial rental fee to the developer each year. The management company’s profit was the difference between the fees it collected from retail tenants and the rent it paid to the developer.
Both plazas were prime commercial properties in the best locations in their respective districts. They had a great foundation, so both management companies were raking in profits.
Of course, the developer earned even more. A property like this was practically a goose that lays golden eggs. If you managed to get one in your lifetime, you’d be set for life.
