Chapter 209: Chapter 171: Part 3
The boss had set the tone, giving Xu Jun a clear direction for his next steps. All he had to do was push forward with all his might.
Xu Wu had other meetings to attend, so once things were settled, the video conference ended.
Before hanging up, Xu Wu told Xu Jun to take President Chen out for a nice lunch. Xu Jun happily accepted the task. ’This is a rare opportunity to build a connection with the big boss!’
Best of all, it was an order to skip work!
But it wasn’t lunchtime yet, so Chen Xiao told them to go about their work. A plaza this large had endless daily affairs; there was no need for both of them to stay and accompany him.
Besides, Chen Xiao’s personality was a bit like Zhao Xiangjun’s—he also preferred peace and quiet. He wasn’t comfortable with people constantly hovering around him.
In the end, Chen Xiao chose to hole up in Zhao Hui’s office. Xu Jun was quite envious, but he knew President Chen was just being considerate. As the general manager, Xu Jun had too many important matters that couldn’t be delayed.
Sitting on the guest sofa in Zhao Hui’s office, Chen Xiao teased, "Brother Hui, how are you liking the environment here?"
In public, he always called him President Hui or President Zhao, but in private, he called him Brother Hui to show their closeness.
"This is a life I never even dared to dream of. I used to be most envious of those nine-to-five white-collar workers who had a stable job and a decent income."
Zhao Hui had grown comfortable with Chen Xiao and knew his personality, so he could chat freely without any pressure.
Chen Xiao chuckled. "This is just the beginning. Our enterprise is only getting started. What you think is the finish line today might not even qualify as the starting point! Brother Hui, you’ve got to keep pushing!"
Chen Xiao was an only son. His only other relative was a cousin, but they hadn’t grown up together, so their bond was weak.
But Zhao Hui was Zhao Xiangjun’s older brother. If he proved himself, Chen Xiao would naturally give him his full support.
Zhao Hui was deeply moved. When he first met Chen Xiao, he thought the man was already incredibly wealthy, able to afford two luxury high-rise apartments. He had even guessed his net worth might be over a hundred million.
A few days later, he saw him arrange for Xu Wu to acquire Jiangzhou Wansheng Square. He spent over a billion like it was nothing. That was shocking enough!
Then he learned that his sister was a major shareholder in the Yino Group, with a net worth in the billions. If even his sister was worth that much, then Chen Xiao’s wealth must surely exceed ten billion.
And sure enough, just a few days later, news broke that Junxiao Investment Group planned to invest tens of billions to acquire Junxing Auto, remodel it into a Super Intelligent Factory, and build a new Intelligent Research and Development Center.
And now, with Chen Xiao saying this was only the beginning of his enterprise, Zhao Hui couldn’t help but believe him.
After all, whether it was the new energy vehicle industry, the commercial real estate sector, or the retail sector, these were all just the initial moves in his grand plan. Each field had enormous potential for growth.
’When all of these sectors become industry leaders, what kind of monster will Junxiao Investment Group have become?’
The thought was both terrifying and overwhelming, his mind racing.
Zhao Hui sighed. "My only regret is that I was so ignorant and lazy in the past. Every day I worry I won’t be able to complete the tasks you give me, that I’ll let you and Xiangjun down."
Chen Xiao roared with laughter. "We’re family; no need for such formalities! Just keep working hard. I believe in you!"
Mm! Zhao Hui nodded emphatically. He had become more composed recently and would no longer blurt out things like, "My life is in your hands!"
But the sentiment of ’a man willing to die for a patron who truly understands him’ was now clearly etched into his very bones.
For lunch, Xu Jun had made arrangements at a private kitchen just outside Junxiao Square. He had found out that Chen Xiao enjoyed rustic, home-style cooking.
He had arranged for the owner to cook personally, instructing him to give it his absolute all.
Chen Xiao hadn’t originally planned to eat out, but he did it mainly for Xu Jun’s sake.
The fact that he was willing to have a meal with Xu Jun was a tremendous honor for the man—more effective at boosting his morale than a pay raise.
It was a comical thought; countless people were lining up for a chance to treat Xu Jun to a meal, only to be refused.
Since it was a working lunch, Xu Jun and Zhao Hui couldn’t drink alcohol; they had to go back to the office in the afternoon.
To set a good example for his subordinates, Chen Xiao naturally abstained as well.
The men toasted with tea instead of alcohol. During the meal, however, Chen Xiao told Xu Jun to submit a request to President Xu later for a few cases of Maotai to be approved for Junxiao Business Management Company each month as entertainment liquor.
It wasn’t a huge expense, but it was a perk from the boss to his subordinates.
While Xu Jun never lacked opportunities to drink Maotai, it was always on a client’s dime. The old Wansheng Square would never have used Maotai as its standard corporate entertainment liquor.
The standard for Wansheng Group’s regional offices was *baijiu* worth around 500 yuan.
Xu Jun seized the opportunity to express his gratitude to President Chen, and the back-and-forth conversation helped them grow more familiar.
In the middle of the meal, Xu Jun’s phone rang. He was about to silence it, but Chen Xiao gestured for him to take the call.
It was mealtime, after all, not a meeting.
Xu Jun glanced at the caller ID. It was Xia Bin, the general manager of Four Seasons Clothing.
"President Xia!"
"President Xu, when would be a good time? I’d still like to come and speak with you about the lease renewal."
Xia Bin had been agonizing over this for days. Based on the current negotiation progress, they were set to lose all their prime spots on the first floor. The loss would be too great. After racking his brain, he decided his only option was to appeal to Xu Jun directly.
Xu Jun hadn’t been involved in the renewal terms. He replied, "You should speak with President Zhao about this. He has full authority on the matter."
"President Xu, that Zhao Hui of yours is deliberately making things difficult! We’ve been in the business world for many years, and I’ve never seen someone use their position to carry out a personal vendetta like this!"
The restaurant was quiet, and both Chen Xiao and Zhao Hui heard Xia Bin’s words loud and clear.
Xu Jun glanced at Zhao Hui in confusion. He couldn’t figure out why Zhao Hui would be giving Xia Bin a hard time, but based on the terms Xia Bin was describing, he was definitely being targeted.
"How about this, President Xia? Let me look into the situation, and I’ll get back to you."
After hanging up, Xu Jun said tentatively, "That was President Xia from Four Seasons Clothing. It’s about the lease renewal."
Zhao Hui was about to explain, but Chen Xiao cut him off. "Junxiao Business Management Company will not partner with Four Seasons Clothing on any project."
Xu Jun was startled. ’So that’s the root of the problem!’
In that instant, he understood everything. ’Xia Bin, you really did it this time. How on earth did you manage to offend this guy?’
