If there’s one way to guide the next generation, it isn’t by handing them every answer outright.

Teach them how to find the answer themselves.

Someone can point the way, but understanding still has to be earned by the one walking that path.

Satisfied with his decision to offer Kina a bit of guidance, Lurker figured it’d take Kina four or five days to grasp what he’d meant.

So he waited patiently, planning to return the next day to check how far Kina had processed and digested that information.

And here’s what Lurker witnessed.

Kina stood beneath the tree, her hand touching the empty air while the temperature around her dropped almost entirely, as though the heat itself were being drawn out, leaving nothing but cold behind.

No snow, no frozen patches, the area was simply bitterly cold, since the temperature within a small radius around her hand was steadily falling as her Mana began pulling heat straight out of the air.

For a moment, Lurker struggled to keep his expression in check, his eyes widening, his body frozen in place. The next second, his lips curled into a disbelieving smirk.

"Well, damn, what’s going on with this kid?" he muttered under his breath. Just yesterday, he’d explained the concept to Kina, and today, she’d already built the foundation needed to push her Frost Edge study even further?

If a girl like this genuinely only carried an F-Grade Talent, then Lurker started seriously doubting whether that Talent data could even be trusted at all.

After a moment’s hesitation, he stepped closer and clapped his hands.

"Incredible, I didn’t expect you to grasp this just a single day after I taught you."

Hearing that, the Mana in Kina’s hand faded, and she let out a slow breath, releasing a thin wisp of cold mist, then smiled at Lurker.

"That’s thanks to you, Lord Lurker."

Lurker smiled with satisfaction, seeing that Kina’s attitude wasn’t bad either. After that, he thought it over briefly before asking, "By the way, mind if I ask you something?"

"What is it?"

"Who trained you back in the Slums?"

Lurker was curious. There was no way Kina could have picked up that distinctive swordsmanship style from anywhere within the Slums itself. If there was one explanation that made everything click, it was probably someone from the elite region who’d somehow ended up in the Slums and personally trained her.

Who exactly could that be? Friend or foe?

"That’s my Master."

"Master?"

Kina nodded cheerfully. "Yeah, Master’s also my current guardian."

’Her guardian? Ah, doesn’t that mean this person’s incredibly close to her?’

Clearly, Lurker needed to dig up information on this person. He was genuinely interested in meeting and speaking with this so-called Master directly, assuming the man was willing to cooperate.

Like... how on earth had he found this little monster in the first place?

’Well, whatever.’

Lurker held back the excited smile threatening to spread across his face, fiddling with his pocket and pulling out a particular pair of glasses.

Noticing Kina’s curious stare, Lurker chuckled lightly. "Sometimes I put on glasses when I want to observe something more closely. Go on and keep training."

"...Oh, okay."

Of course, that was a lie. Those glasses were exactly what Lurker needed to see through whatever Kina was actually hiding behind that disguise.

Obey had only just delivered them to him, and without wasting any time, Lurker had come straight here, brimming with anticipation.

He slipped the glasses on, a simple-looking pair with a single lens. This particular pair originated from a civilization beyond human territory, or, more accurately, something that had once belonged to an Invader.

Once he had the glasses on, Lurker glanced over at Kina training. Instantly, her brown hair shifted, transforming into long black hair cascading down to her waist, her eyes shifting into a bright, brilliant blue as clear as the sky, her skin tone lightening far beyond what it had been, and the rest of her facial features shifted too, revealing her true appearance.

’Oh... in this form... she’s far too beautiful, is this Serum being used specifically to tone down her overwhelming appearance?’

Lurker felt a nagging sense of familiarity with that face and appearance, but he couldn’t quite place where he’d seen it before. Meanwhile, nothing about Kina’s disguise itself seemed problematic, meaning her true intentions probably weren’t something Lurker could uncover easily.

’Hmm... still, she looks remarkably familiar.’

With a small sigh, Lurker stepped back a few paces, leaning against the large tree. There, he murmured briefly.

"Obey, look into something regarding that girl’s guardian."

***

Three days later, Kina made yet another leap in progress that left Lurker laughing in sheer disbelief.

This time, it wasn’t just ordinary progress, it was something that completely shattered every assumption Lurker had built about Kina, forcing him to rebuild his understanding from scratch, with an overwhelming dose of humility along the way.

Why was that?

’Haaaah.... what exactly am I looking at right now?’

He stared at Kina. The girl stood there, this time wielding an iron sword coated in a layer of frozen ice, the air around her dropping to a bitter cold, and none of that was even the most surprising part.

What was genuinely shocking were the blue butterflies, not many in number, but fluttering wildly around Kina, their wings beating and leaving behind faint trails of glittering, snow-like particles with every flap.

That wasn’t part of Frost Edge at all, and anyone who’d already mastered Frost Edge wouldn’t produce anything remotely like that either.

Because those blue butterflies were something entirely unique to Kina herself. Those blue butterflies were the manifested form of her Talent.

’Why is this happening? As far as anyone knows, S-Grade Talents and above are the only ones capable of manifesting phenomena like this.’

Lurker didn’t want to believe it, but the proof stood right in front of him. ’I want someone to tell me that Kiena actually carries an S-Grade Talent, or, in a special case, maybe even something higher than that?’

Could that be the exact reason her Talent had registered as F-Grade in the first place?

’Every Talent measuring device known so far has only ever been calibrated to measure up to S-Grade Talent, never anything above it, since no one’s ever possessed a Talent that high before.’

And so, standing right here, Lurker found himself wondering, was it possible the measuring device simply wasn’t capable of registering SS-Grade or SSS-Grade at all, resulting in a completely erroneous reading?

His breathing grew slightly unsteady, and he stepped closer, still wearing the glasses.

Kina stood there, a faint icy gleam flickering in her eyes, the temperature continuing to drop, and the way she stood, the way she wielded that ice-coated sword, turned what had merely felt familiar before into something Lurker finally remembered with absolute clarity.

’Black hair, blue eyes, and a deep affinity for the ice element itself.’

The moment Kina’s gaze met his, Lurker couldn’t hold himself back any longer, breaking into a smile brimming with genuine astonishment.

"...I never imagined I’d meet you here, after all this time, Lady Kina Mivelo."
