My DragonicVampiric System

Episode 20 — The Fighter Who Gets Stronger When Hit

The Grand Arena became louder when Drako’s name appeared beside Cassian Rook’s. Cassian wasn’t simply Rank 12. He was one of Astra Academy’s most experienced Level 5 students and had reached the final stages of previous tournaments. His ability made him especially dangerous against physical fighters. Every impact his body received could be absorbed as kinetic energy, stored, and released back with greater force. Dragon Strength and Dragon Blood Strike were normally two of Drako’s greatest weapons, but against Cassian they could become liabilities. Drako stood at the arena entrance while Teck displayed Cassian’s previous matches. “He has a storage limit,” Teck explained. “Everyone does.” Adrian pointed at the recording. “How much?” “Unknown. Nobody in these recordings reached it.” Kaien smiled. “Hit him until he explodes.” Mira stared at him. “That’s your strategy?” “Eventually everything breaks.” Draxen shook his head. “Except Drako might break first.” Raizen looked at Drako. “Don’t fight the ability. Fight the person.” Drako nodded. That was the answer. Dragon Blood Vision wasn’t only useful for finding physical weaknesses. It could show him how Cassian’s energy moved. “I’ll figure him out.” The arena doors opened. Cassian waited at the center, tall and heavily built, wearing reinforced black combat clothing. He cracked his neck when Drako approached. “I’ve wanted this fight.” Drako smiled. “Why?” “Everyone’s talking about how quickly you’re improving.” Cassian raised his fists. “I want to see whether the rumors are true.”

The referee raised his hand. “Begin!” Neither moved. Cassian smiled. “Coming?” “You want me to hit you.” “Obviously.” “Then no.” Laughter came from the audience. Cassian’s smile faded slightly. He charged. Drako activated Blood Sense. Cassian’s heartbeat accelerated before his right fist moved. Drako dodged. The punch struck the floor. BOOM! Stone exploded. Drako’s eyes narrowed. Cassian already had kinetic energy stored before the match. “Smart,” Drako said. Cassian attacked again. Drako avoided two punches, but the third came faster. Dragon Scales appeared across his forearm. The impact launched Drako backward. He landed and slid several meters. His arm went numb. [High kinetic force detected.] Drako activated Dragon Blood Vision. One eye became gold, the other crimson. Cassian’s body became surrounded by energy pathways. Bright energy was concentrated around his shoulders, chest, and arms. Every movement transferred some of that stored force through his muscles. “There you are.” Cassian charged again. Drako used Blood Step. Crimson light flashed, and he appeared behind him. Cassian immediately turned, expecting an attack. Drako didn’t strike. He disappeared again. Cassian frowned. “Running won’t win.” “I’m learning.”

Drako moved around him repeatedly. Blood Step consumed energy, so he alternated it with Blood Enhancement. Cassian attacked whenever Drako entered range, releasing small portions of kinetic force. Drako’s Dragon Blood Vision followed the energy every time. Cassian wasn’t able to release everything instantly. His body needed a brief moment to move stored energy from his core toward whichever limb he wanted to use. That delay was tiny, but it existed. Cassian suddenly changed tactics. Instead of chasing Drako, he slammed his own fist against his chest. Drako froze. Kinetic energy increased inside Cassian. He hit himself again. “You can charge it yourself?” Cassian smiled. “Did you think I needed you?” He struck his palms together. BOOM! A shockwave exploded outward. Drako activated Dragon Density through his legs and Dragon Scales across his chest. The shockwave still pushed him backward. Cassian appeared in front of him. His fist struck Drako’s stomach. BOOM! Drako flew across the arena and crashed into the barrier. His defensive shield flickered. Mira stood from her seat. Kaien remained focused. “Get up,” he muttered.

Drako coughed and pushed himself upright. Blood Flow Control immediately redirected Vampiric energy toward his injured abdomen. His circulation accelerated around the damaged tissue. It wasn’t instant healing, but it helped his body stabilize. Cassian noticed. “Regeneration?” “Not exactly.” Drako’s mind worked quickly. Physical attacks fed Cassian. Energy attacks might work, but Drako hadn’t developed many ranged abilities yet. He needed another approach. Dragon Blood Vision focused on Cassian’s kinetic pathways. The stored energy was growing unstable around his chest. Cassian had a limit after all. Teck hadn’t found it because previous opponents had been eliminated before reaching it. Drako smiled. “Kaien’s stupid idea might actually work.” Cassian raised an eyebrow. “What?” “Nothing.” Drako partially transformed. Golden scales spread across his arms and shoulders. Crimson markings appeared along his neck. His muscles became denser. [Blood-Scaled Form.] [Transformation Control: 72%.] Cassian smiled. “Finally getting serious?”

Drako charged. Cassian prepared to absorb Dragon Strength. Instead, Drako stopped before striking and swept Cassian’s leg without enhancing the attack. Cassian stumbled. Drako grabbed his shoulder and redirected his momentum toward the ground. Cassian rolled and immediately stood. Drako attacked again with normal physical strikes, using Blood Enhancement for speed but deliberately reducing impact. Cassian blocked easily. “This is your plan?” Cassian punched. Drako used Blood Step to move behind him and shoved rather than struck. Cassian turned angrily. Drako was making him waste stored energy while giving him almost nothing to absorb. Cassian released another shockwave. Drako anchored himself with Dragon Density. More kinetic energy disappeared from Cassian’s chest. “You’re draining me,” Cassian realized. Drako smiled. “Took you long enough.” Cassian stopped wasting energy. His stance changed. “Then I’ll finish you with what I have.”

He compressed nearly all his remaining kinetic energy into his right arm. Dragon Blood Vision showed the limb becoming painfully bright. Drako knew blocking would be dangerous. Cassian charged. Drako waited. Twenty meters. Fifteen. Ten. Blood Step activated. Cassian anticipated it and turned toward Drako’s usual reappearance point. But Drako had learned from Selene. He activated Dragon Density midway through Blood Step, changing his momentum and appearing lower than expected. Cassian’s fist passed above him. Drako could have used Dragon Blood Strike against Cassian’s ribs, but that would recharge him. Instead, Blood Flow Control surged into Drako’s legs. He accelerated behind Cassian and grabbed his arm. Dragon Density activated through Drako’s hands. Cassian’s arm became trapped for a fraction of a second. Drako twisted his body and used Cassian’s own forward momentum against him. Cassian flew toward the ground. BOOM! The impact came from Cassian’s own stored force, not Drako’s punch. His defensive shield flickered violently.

Cassian rolled away before Drako could follow. He stood breathing heavily. Almost all his stored energy was gone. “Clever.” Drako’s transformation was draining him too. “You’re still standing.” “So are you.” Cassian smiled. “Then let’s finish it without abilities.” He raised his fists. Drako smiled and allowed most of his transformation to disappear. His scales withdrew. His eyes returned to normal. “Fine.” The audience became quiet. They charged simultaneously. Cassian threw a right punch. Drako blocked. Drako countered. Cassian dodged. They exchanged ordinary strikes, neither relying heavily on abilities. Cassian’s greater experience showed immediately. He landed two clean punches against Drako’s ribs. Drako responded with one against Cassian’s shoulder. Cassian swept his leg. Drako fell but rolled back to his feet. “Your technique needs work,” Cassian said. “That’s why I’m here.”

Cassian attacked with a combination Drako couldn’t completely avoid. Blood Sense warned him, but knowing an attack was coming didn’t automatically mean his body had the skill to counter it. A fist struck his jaw. Drako stumbled. Cassian moved in for the finish. Drako’s instincts reacted. Blood Flow Control accelerated circulation through his legs. Dragon Density increased inside his left foot. Drako pivoted faster than Cassian expected and moved outside his attack. Then something clicked. The two abilities synchronized naturally. Vampiric blood energy provided acceleration while Draconic density provided stability and force. [Hybrid synchronization: 67%.] Drako didn’t punch Cassian. He hooked his leg behind Cassian’s ankle while changing his own density. Cassian lost balance. Drako redirected him and slammed him onto the arena floor. Cassian’s weakened shield finally activated. The referee raised his hand. “Winner: Drako!”

The crowd exploded. Drako remained standing for a moment before offering Cassian his hand. Cassian stared at it, then laughed and accepted. “You barely hit me.” “That seemed safer.” Cassian stood. “You figured out my ability during the fight.” “I’m getting good at that.” Cassian nodded toward Drako’s eyes. “Whatever those eyes do, keep training them. But don’t depend on them. There will eventually be opponents too fast for you to react even when you see them coming.” Drako remembered the warning. “I’ll remember.”

Outside, Kaien slapped Drako’s shoulder hard enough to make him wince. “My strategy worked.” Mira stared at him. “He did the exact opposite of your strategy.” “Inspired by my strategy.” Draxen laughed. Teck approached with a holographic display. “Your new combination reached sixty-seven percent synchronization.” Drako looked at him. “How do you know that?” Teck paused. “Estimate.” Drako narrowed his eyes. Teck smiled and closed the display. Another secret.

The tournament board updated. [16 COMPETITORS REMAIN.] Drako, Kaien, Draxen, Mira, and Raizen had advanced. Adrian’s name was missing. Drako immediately turned. Adrian stood several meters away, forcing a smile. “Lost.” Drako walked toward him. Adrian shrugged. “Opponent destroyed my drones before I could set anything up.” Drako expected him to joke, but Adrian looked genuinely disappointed. “I wanted to keep going with you guys.” Drako put a hand on his shoulder. “Then get stronger.” Adrian looked up. “That’s it?” “You’re my friend. Losing one tournament doesn’t change that. Train with us and next time make sure they can’t destroy your drones.” Adrian slowly smiled. “Yeah. Okay.” Teck watched the exchange silently.

The board rearranged for the next round. Drako searched the names. His expression changed. Drako vs. Mira. Nobody spoke for a moment. Mira finally smiled and drew one of her blades halfway from its sheath. “Looks like you finally get to find out what I’ve been hiding.” Drako’s Dragon Blood Vision activated instinctively. For the first time, a strange darkness moved around Mira’s body—an energy she had concealed throughout the entire tournament. Drako smiled. “I’ve been waiting.” The next fight wasn’t against a stranger. It was against his friend, and Drako was about to discover that Mira had been hiding far more than one ability.
