The Grand Arena remained loud long after Fade was declared champion. Students shouted his name while the tournament screens replayed the final exchange again and again. 0.01 seconds. Ruben Veyrox stared at the number with his arms crossed.
“I’m going to hate that number for the rest of my life.” Drako immediately appeared beside him. “Welcome to the losing-to-Fade club.” Ruben looked at him. “You lost by more.” “Exactly. Mine hurts less.” Kaien laughed. “That’s still not how losing works.”
Drako ignored him and put an arm around Ruben. “As president of the club, I’m here for you.” Ruben pushed him away. “Who made you president?” “Seniority.” Fade walked toward them carrying the tournament trophy. Drako looked at it, then at Fade. “I don’t like that.” Fade tilted his head.
“The trophy?” “You holding something I wanted.” Fade extended it. “Want to touch it?” Drako reached for it. Fade pulled it away. Everyone laughed. Drako stared at him. “You’ve changed.” Mira smiled. “He’s becoming one of us.” “That’s what I’m afraid of.”
Fade’s victory celebration lasted another hour. He received tournament credits, access to advanced training facilities, several beast crystals, and a weapon-upgrade opportunity. Ruben received nearly as much for second place.
Drako immediately became interested when beast crystals were mentioned. “How many?” Fade turned away. “None of your business.” “We’re friends. Your resources are our resources.” Teck looked up. “That is not how ownership works.” Adrian nodded. “Especially when Drako is involved.”
Drako put a hand over his chest. “The disrespect in this group is getting out of control.” Kaien walked past. “Good.” Despite all the joking, Drako was genuinely happy for Fade.
The Fade swordsman had defeated fighters with abilities specifically suited to counter him and had revealed only a fraction of the mysterious power inside his sword. Drako wanted a rematch badly, but more than that, he wanted to see how powerful Fade could eventually become.
They were leaving the arena when six people wearing the Veyrox Family crest entered the corridor. Ruben stopped immediately. His relaxed expression disappeared. At the center of the group stood the older Veyrox representative who had watched the final.
“Ruben.” Ruben sighed. “I was having such a good day.” Drako whispered to Kaien, “Family?” Kaien nodded. “Definitely family.” The older man looked toward Drako. “I can hear you.” Drako smiled politely.
“Excellent hearing, sir.” Ruben covered his face. “Please don’t talk.” “I was being respectful.” “That’s what worries me.” The Veyrox representative ignored them and focused on Fade.
More specifically, he stared at Fade’s sword. “Where did you get that weapon?” Fade rested one hand on the hilt. “My teacher.” “Name.” Fade’s posture changed. “Why?” The man stepped closer. “Because that symbol shouldn’t exist anymore.”
Mira immediately pulled her pendant from beneath her shirt. “You recognize it?” The Veyrox representative saw the symbol carved into its edge and became even more disturbed. “Where did you get that?”
Mira didn’t answer. Drako stepped slightly forward. “You’re asking a lot of questions without answering any.” Two Veyrox guards looked toward him. Ruben immediately moved between them.
“He’s with me.” Drako smiled. “See? President of the Fade-Loss Club has benefits.” Ruben whispered, “Please shut up for thirty seconds.” The older man activated a communication device.
“Valdrick wants to speak with Ruben. Privately.” Ruben looked at his friends. “If this concerns Fade, they stay.” The man’s expression hardened. “Ruben.” “They stay.” Drako noticed something important. Ruben wasn’t acting like someone afraid of his family. He respected them, but he wasn’t controlled by them either. After several seconds, the older man sighed. “Fine. Secure room.”
They entered a private tournament chamber. Teck immediately scanned it. The Veyrox representative stared at him. “What are you doing?
” “Checking whether you’re recording us.” “This is a Veyrox Family communication.” “Exactly.” Ruben laughed. “I really like having a Green around.” A large holographic screen activated. Static disappeared, revealing an older man sitting inside a massive room lined with weapons.
His hair was mostly silver, but his body looked powerful despite his age. Several scars crossed his face. Even through a hologram, Drako felt pressure from him. Ruben straightened slightly. “Grandfather.” Drako’s eyes widened. This was Valdrick Veyrox the strongest human of the Veyrox Family.

Valdrick looked first at Ruben. “One hundredth of a second.” Ruben sighed. “Please don’t start.” Valdrick smiled. “You fought well.” Ruben blinked, clearly expecting criticism. “Thanks.” Valdrick then looked toward Fade. His smile disappeared.
“Show me your sword.” Fade didn’t move. “Why?” Drako almost laughed. Fade apparently spoke to one of humanity’s strongest people exactly the same way he spoke to everyone else. Valdrick didn’t seem offended. “Because I knew the man who carried its twin.”
The room became silent.
Fade slowly removed the sword. “My teacher gave this to me.”Valdrick leaned toward the holographic projection. “What was your teacher’s name?” Fade hesitated. “Master Veyr.”
Valdrick closed his eyes briefly. “Then he’s dead.” Fade’s hand tightened around the weapon. “How do you know?” “Because Veyr would never willingly give that sword away while alive.” Drako’s humor disappeared. Fade stood completely motionless. “You knew him?” “We fought together.” Valdrick voice became quieter. “Long before you were born.”
Mira held up her pendant. “And this symbol?” Hilston saw it clearly. “The same organization.” Mira stepped closer. “What organization?” Valdrick looked toward the Veyrox representative. “Clear the room.” Ruben immediately said, “They stay.” Valdrick stared at his grandson for several seconds. “You’re becoming stubborn.” Ruben smiled. “Genetics.” Drako covered his mouth to stop himself laughing. Valdricks unexpectedly smiled. “Fair enough.”
The hologram changed. An ancient symbol appeared: two intersecting circles surrounding a vertical blade. “They were called the Veiled Order,” Valdrick explained. “They existed before the Five Great Families became what they are today. During the ancient wars, the Order operated between human territories, Dragon-controlled regions, Vampire worlds, and other civilizations.”
Drako leaned forward. “They worked with all of them?” “Sometimes. Their purpose wasn’t loyalty to one race. It was preventing certain knowledge and weapons from falling into the wrong hands.” Teck immediately understood. “Including information about the Eternal Demon-Tier Beast.” Valdrick eyes snapped toward him. “Where did you hear that name?”
Nobody answered.
Valdrick sighed. “Then things are moving faster than I hoped.”
Drako crossed his arms. “We received a warning from an Azunakkii named Vorakai.” Valdrick became completely still. “You encountered an Azunakkii?” “Several.” Kaien raised his hand casually. “One exploded.” Drako nodded. “That happened.” Valdrick stared at them like he couldn’t decide whether they were brave or insane. “And you’re joking about it?” Drako shrugged. “We’re alive.”
Valdrick returned to the Veiled Order. “Near the end of the first war, members of the Order discovered that factions on every side wanted control of the Eternal Beast. They helped hide the seals afterward. Then the Order disappeared.” Mira looked at her pendant. “Disappeared or were killed?” Valdrick paused. “Both.”
Fade’s voice became colder. “Who killed them?”
“Some Azunakkii. Some humans. Some Vampires. Some Dragons.” Valdrick looked directly at him. “The Order had too many secrets. Once the alliance collapsed, everyone feared what they knew.”
Drako remembered the headmaster’s words. Humanity had survived the war, then turned against former allies. “So Fade’s teacher was one of them.”
“One of the last I knew personally.”
Mira looked at her pendant. “And my mother?”
Valdrick studied the symbol. “Possibly.”
Mira became quiet.
Fade suddenly asked, “Why can’t Ruben copy my sword energy?”
Valdrick expression changed. “Because it isn’t an ability.”
Ruben frowned. “Then what is it?”
“Something older. The Veiled Order developed a combat discipline capable of severing energy connections. It doesn’t create a normal ability pattern, so there is nothing for your Veyrox bloodline to replicate.”
Drako smiled. “So I’m still special.”
Everyone looked at him.
“What? Ruben can’t copy me either.”
Kaien shook his head. “You survived thirty seconds without making it about yourself.”
“New record.”
Valdrick unexpectedly laughed. “You’re Drako.”
Drako blinked. “You know me?”
“I know enough.”
That answer immediately made Drako uncomfortable.
Valdrick expression became serious again. “Listen carefully. If the Azunakkii are searching for the Eternal Beast again, the tournament you just completed will eventually seem insignificant. But don’t make the mistake young fighters always make.”
Kaien crossed his arms. “Which is?”
“Thinking knowing about a war means you’re ready to fight one.”
Nobody joked.
Valdrick continued. “Grow stronger. Build trust. Learn who your real allies are. There are powers beyond your academy that could erase every person in that tournament arena without effort.”
Drako understood. They weren’t ready.
Not even close.
Then Valdrick looked directly at Ruben.
“And Ruben?”
“Yes?”
“Stay close to those people.”
Ruben looked around at Drako, Fade, Mira, Teck, Adrian, and Kaien.
Valdrick smiled slightly.
“I have a feeling you’re going to need each other.”
Drako immediately put his arm around Kaien.
“You heard the strongest Veyrox We’re officially friends.”
Kaien shoved him away.
“He said allies!”
“Same thing.”
“Get away from me.”
Everyone laughed.
But Fade wasn’t laughing.
He was staring at his sword.
For the first time, he had a name connected to his past.
The Veiled Order.
And somewhere in the erased history of the first Azunakkii war were the answers to who Fade really was—and why Mira’s family carried the same symbol.
