My DragonicVampiric System

Episode 7 — The Phoenix Heir

The morning after the attack on Astra Academy felt completely different. The academy was still standing, but the atmosphere had changed. Guards were positioned around the outer walls, instructors patrolled the halls, and students were forbidden from leaving the grounds without permission. Nobody knew exactly who the mysterious attacker had been. The only thing everyone knew was that he had been powerful enough to enter the academy and leave without being stopped. Drako sat quietly in class while the instructor explained advanced energy circulation. He wasn’t listening to the lesson. His mind kept returning to the stranger’s words. “The blood has awakened.” Drako looked down at his hands. The golden and crimson energies inside him were completely still. He could feel both of them, waiting. The System appeared. [Current Level: 1.] [Experience Progress: 84%.] [Dragon Bloodline: 0.1%.] [Vampire Bloodline: 0.1%.] [Next Evolution: Locked.] Drako frowned. “Why is the evolution locked?” [Host has not reached the required level.] “And when I reach it?” [The first evolutionary transformation will become available.] Drako’s expression became serious. He remembered what the System had told him before. Every evolution would change his body. The stronger he became, the more painful the transformation would be. He wasn’t afraid of pain. What concerned him was whether he could control what he became. A knock came from the classroom door. Everyone turned. A senior instructor entered. “The academy has received confirmation that an outside delegation will arrive today.” Students immediately began whispering. The instructor continued. “Representatives from one of the Five Great Families will be visiting Astra Academy.” Drako looked up. The Five Great Families were among the most powerful families in the world. Their influence extended across kingdoms, academies, military organizations, and ancient bloodline clans. Each family possessed treasures that ordinary warriors could only dream of obtaining. Rumors claimed that every Great Family possessed two Demon-Tier weapons or pieces of armor. Most students had never even seen a Demon-Tier treasure. The instructor continued. “The delegation is here for a private evaluation.” Adrian leaned toward Drako. “Do you know which family?” Before Drako could answer, the instructor said, “The Phoenix Family.” Drako’s eyes narrowed. The Phoenix Family. Their name was legendary. Their bloodline was said to allow their descendants to command flames and regenerate from devastating injuries. Students began talking excitedly. “A Phoenix descendant is coming?” “Maybe someone from their main branch.” “Do you think they’ll demonstrate their power?” Mira looked at Drako. “You look serious.” “Something feels strange.” Raizen looked toward the classroom doors. “I feel it too.” A few minutes later, the academy gates opened. Several black vehicles entered the grounds. Guards surrounded them. The first person to step out was an older man wearing a long red coat. Behind him walked several guards. Then another figure stepped out. He was around Drako’s age, with dark-red hair and sharp golden eyes. The moment he stepped onto the academy grounds, a wave of heat spread through the air. Students immediately noticed. His name was Kaien. He was one of the younger heirs of the Phoenix Family. He didn’t look impressed by the academy or the students surrounding him. He simply walked forward with his hands in his pockets. Drako felt something strange the moment their eyes met. His Dragon bloodline reacted. Golden energy moved through his chest. Then his Vampiric bloodline responded with a cold pulse. Kaien stopped. His expression changed slightly. “You.” Drako frowned. “Me?” Kaien stared at him for several seconds. “I can feel something strange from you.” The older Phoenix representative immediately stepped forward. “Kaien.” Kaien looked away. “I know.” The representative looked at Drako but said nothing. The students were instructed to return to their classes, but rumors spread instantly. Adrian whispered, “He noticed you immediately.” Drako nodded. “I noticed him too.” Later that afternoon, the academy arranged a demonstration between selected students and the Phoenix heir. Kaien stood inside the training arena while instructors watched from the sidelines. His opponent was a Level 2 student. The instructor gave the signal. The student attacked. Kaien didn’t move. Flames suddenly erupted around his body. The student’s attack never reached him. Kaien moved once. A burst of fire struck the ground beside his opponent and sent him backward. The match ended almost instantly. The crowd became silent. Kaien looked completely calm. Drako watched carefully. That wasn’t normal fire. The flames carried a powerful energy signature. Adrian checked his device. “His energy output is incredible.” Mira nodded. “And he barely used anything.” Raizen’s hand rested on his sword. “He’s dangerous.” Kaien looked directly at Drako. “Your turn.” The arena became silent again. Drako stepped forward. “Why me?” Kaien smiled. “Because you’re hiding something.” The instructor immediately intervened. “This is not part of the scheduled demonstration.” Kaien didn’t argue, but he continued looking at Drako. “We’ll fight eventually.” Drako smiled slightly. “Probably.” Kaien turned away. “I’ll be waiting.” As Drako walked back toward his friends, the System suddenly appeared. [Unique Bloodline detected.] [Phoenix Bloodline.] [Warning: High compatibility conflict detected.] Drako’s eyes widened. “Compatibility conflict?” [Dragon and Phoenix energies are naturally opposed.] Drako looked at Kaien again. So that’s why his body had reacted. The Dragon bloodline recognized the Phoenix bloodline as something powerful. It wasn’t hatred exactly. It was instinct. Two ancient powers recognizing one another. That evening, Drako went to the training grounds alone. He activated Blood Sense and practiced controlling his energy. His goal was simple: reach Level 2. He attacked training targets repeatedly until his arms became sore. Every successful strike pushed his experience higher. [Experience Progress: 91%.] Drako continued. [93%.] Another series of strikes. [96%.] He increased his speed. [98%.] His breathing became heavier. He activated Dragon Strength and delivered one final punch. BOOM! The training target cracked. [Experience Progress: 100%.] [Level requirement complete.] [Congratulations, Host.] [Level increased.] [Level 2 achieved.] Drako froze. A powerful sensation suddenly moved through his body. His bones felt hot. His muscles tightened. His heart began beating faster. Then the pain started. Drako dropped to one knee. “What the hell…” The System appeared rapidly. [Evolution requirement fulfilled.] [First Transformation available.] [Warning: Evolution will cause physical changes.] [Warning: Severe pain expected.] Drako gritted his teeth. “Not yet.” He forced himself to breathe. He wasn’t going to transform in the middle of the academy. The pain slowly disappeared. His body settled. But something had changed. His senses were sharper. His strength had increased. His Dragon and Vampire energies were stronger. The System appeared again. [Base physical attributes increased.] [New ability unlocked: Evolutionary Transformation.] Drako stared at the message. “So this is only the beginning.” He looked at his hands. Tiny golden scales appeared between his fingers before disappearing beneath his skin. Then his eyes briefly changed. One became golden. The other became crimson. Drako quickly deactivated the ability. He didn’t know what his first transformation would do to him. But he knew it would be stronger than anything he had experienced so far. Across the academy, Kaien stood alone on a balcony. A small flame burned in his palm. He suddenly looked toward the training grounds. His eyes narrowed. “He reached Level 2 already?” The flame around his hand grew brighter. “Interesting.” Neither boy knew how important their meeting would become. Their powers came from ancient bloodlines that had been enemies, rivals, and allies throughout history. But for now, they were simply two young warriors beginning their paths. Drako returned to his room and looked at the System one final time. [Next objective: Master the First Evolution.] He smiled despite the pain still lingering in his body. “Then I’ll master it.” Outside his window, the moon rose above Astra Academy. Somewhere far away, the mysterious stranger watched the academy from the darkness. He felt the change in Drako’s energy and smiled. “The first evolution has begun.” And for the first time, the ancient powers sleeping inside Drako began to awaken.
