Carlos stared at it silently.

He already had the Mana Spring.

Carlos closed his eyes.

He had entered the conquest because he had no water, no wood, no stone, and no way to protect his land.

Now he had a magical spring, enough resources to build with, a way to irrigate his plots, and even a combat barracks.

All he had to do was survive long enough to use them.

The clearing disappeared.

When Carlos opened his eyes, he was lying in front of the conquest portal.

The Farmer stood over him with the same grumpy expression as before.

His eyes moved over Carlos’s torn clothes, bloody skin, and the two broken pieces of the spear.

"Did you win, my lord?" the Farmer asked.

Carlos lifted one hand and gave him a thumbs-up.

"We can start farming now."

The Farmer looked at him for a long moment.

"My name is Rowan," the Farmer finally said.

Carlos grinned from the ground.

"Nice to meet you, Rowan."

Rowan did not answer him right away.

He crouched beside Carlos and looked at the wounds all over his body. The frown on his face deepened with every passing second.

"Can you stand, my lord?"

"Of course."

Carlos placed one hand on the ground and pushed himself up.

His arm immediately gave out.

Rowan caught him before his face could meet the ground.

"It appears you cannot."

"I can," Carlos argued while leaning almost all his weight on the Farmer. "I just need a moment."

"You need several moments. Preferably on the mattress."

Carlos wanted to argue again, but Rowan had already placed Carlos’s arm over his shoulder and started dragging him toward the Lord’s hut.

"Careful with the spear," Carlos said.

Rowan looked back at the two broken pieces lying beside the portal.

"That is no longer a spear, my lord."

"It belongs to my friend."

Rowan sighed, went back, and picked up both pieces.

[Farmer Favorability increased by 1]

Carlos stared at the notification.

"Did you just like me more because I asked you to pick up a broken stick?"

"I have no idea what you are talking about."

Carlos grinned.

Rowan helped him inside the hut and made him sit on the mattress. Carlos took out another Recovery Potion, uncorked it, and drank the whole thing.

The pain slowly started disappearing.

"What happened to you inside that portal?" Rowan asked.

"Slimes."

"Hmm... With the right strategy, they are quite easy to take out, but the worst thing anyone can go through is facing multiple slimes at once. How many slimes did you fight, my lord?"

"Sixty."

Rowan waited for him to say something else.

Carlos remained silent.

"You fought sixty of them?"

"Yes."

Rowan looked at Carlos and then at the broken spear.

For several seconds, the only sound inside the hut was Carlos drinking the last drops of the potion.

"I know how to use a hoe, my lord," Rowan finally said. "I know the basics about slimes. Even I can tell that whatever you did was a bad idea."

"It worked."

"The spear is in two pieces, and you cannot stand."

"Well, those things can be fixed as long as I come back, right?"

Rowan looked at Carlos as if he were looking at a strange animal.

"Please do not return like this again."

"I won’t."

Rowan looked surprised.

Carlos smiled and added, "Next time, I will prepare better."

The Farmer’s frown returned.

Carlos laughed before the movement made his ribs hurt again.

"Don’t worry. Look at what I brought back first."

He opened his inventory and showed Rowan the list of rewards.

At first, the Farmer looked annoyed.

Then he saw the amount of wood, stone, and wheat seeds.

His expression changed.

When Carlos showed him the Mana Spring, Spirit Soil, and Irrigation Channel Blueprint, Rowan moved closer to the system panel even though he could not touch it.

"Spirit Soil..."

His voice was barely louder than a whisper.

"Is it good?" Carlos asked, even though he already knew the answer.

Rowan slowly turned toward him.

"My lord, I have never worked with soil this good."

Carlos’s grin widened.

"What can we grow in it?"

"The description says Mana-affinity crops can survive in it." Rowan pointed at the Spirit Soil. "I have never planted one before, so I cannot tell you how to grow them until we obtain the seeds. But for ordinary crops, this soil and the spring water should improve both their growth and quality."

Carlos looked at the two empty plots through the hut’s entrance.

For the first time, they did not seem like disappointing starting rewards.

They looked like the beginning of something.

"Then let’s start," Carlos said.

"You need rest."

"I can rest while you work."

Rowan stared at him.

"That was a joke," Carlos said.

It was only half a joke.

Carlos waited until his health reached a safe level before walking outside. His legs still felt heavy, but he could move without Rowan carrying him.

He selected the Mana Spring from his inventory.

A transparent image of a small stone spring appeared over the territory.

It was time to make some upgrades to the territory.
