My Farming Domain Is Broken

Mira did not let Carlos stand up for the rewards.

She helped him away from the Conquest Portal while Kaia gave the first Troop Recovery Potion to Nessa. The Archer had taken a shallow cut along her arm, but she kept trying to say she was fine.

"You can say that after the potion," Mira told her.

Brann had a deep cut across his side. He looked more annoyed at the damage to his armor than the blood.

Two sat beside him, smaller than before and barely moving. Carlos watched Mira carefully pour a small amount of Recovery Potion over the Slime.

The blue body brightened a little with each drop of potion entering it.

"It worked," he said.

"With Two being a slime, this should work very well. Their troop grade is very low," Mira answered.

Carlos was curious as to why Mira knew this, but he refrained from questioning it. He didn’t have time just yet.

They sat inside the kitchen while the rest of Ironroot kept moving around them. The two new Farmers and the new Hearthkeeper worked with Mira’s group, while the six new combat troops remained at the cultivation district under Cedric’s command. Garr, the Veteran Guards, the existing Militia and the defensive crops held Ironroot’s walls.

Nobody stopped working because Carlos returned injured. There were others that could take care of him.

With more and more members added to the family, things had started to look better.

At the start, if Carlos was hurt, the whole territory had felt like it would freeze. Now Mira could handle food, Kaia could handle soldiers and the other residents knew what work mattered.

Carlos liked seeing it, but he still felt annoyed that it had taken almost dying several times to build it.

Mira placed a bowl of thick stew in front of him before he could stand again. The smell of meat, wheat and onions filled the kitchen.

"Eat," she said.

"Thanks, Mira."

"Hehe."

Carlos took one bite and all exhaustion melted away. Good food always did that for him.

Kaia sat across from Carlos with the training blueprint open. She had already started marking the clear ground near the western wall with a piece of charcoal.

"The yard cannot be beside the fields," she said. "Too much movement, shouting and weapons. It should be near the barracks, with a direct path to both gates."

Carlos looked at the layout and nodded. It was not perfect, but it made sense immediately.

"We can use the northern open ground," he said. "The warehouse stays south. Farmers need the quieter space."

Kaia looked up. "That will work."

Carlos was happy. He was making intelligent decisions that made sense now. It was a great feeling.

Then Brann pointed at the stew.

"Eat more."

Carlos placed the Training Yard Blueprint on the table. The resources were valuable, but this was the real reward. It gave his troops a way to become stronger without Carlos gambling their lives inside a gate every time.

He picked it up.

Carlos read the final line and looked at Kaia.

"Instructor supervision."

Kaia looked at the panel for a long time before she nodded with her chest puffed out.

"I can do it," she said.

She was trying not to be excited, but Carlos could notice the little changes that gave her away. Someone else might think Kaia did not want this responsibility.

The Rare Reinforced Barrack Frame was smaller than Carlos expected. It looked like several dark metal beams locked together inside a wooden case.

"One eligible barrack, huh?" Carlos said. "Which one?"

He looked around and thought about it.

The Slime Barrack could make more troops, but Slime Cores had been a problem until now.

The Bearkin Hall protected the territory, but Bearkin also needed more food and equipment. Nessa’s Archers had proved useful in every fight, but the lodge only summoned one each day.

For once, he had a good reward and no clear answer.

"We will decide after we see what needs attention first," Carlos said.

That answer did not solve the problem, but it stopped him from making a decision just because he wanted to feel stronger immediately.

The Slime Barrack had thirty new Cores waiting now. The Bearkin Hall had given Ironroot its hardest worker and strongest defender.

Every choice would improve one part of the territory and leave another waiting.

The Garrison Gatehouse Blueprint and the Iron Fang Commander Chest remained in the inventory. Carlos would deal with both after the Training Yard decision.

He was beginning to understand that development was not only about choosing the best. It was about knowing what the situation needed too. If something seemed like good development but would react badly to his situation, then it would not benefit anyone.

The private message panel opened before Carlos could return to the rewards.

[Cosmic Merchant]- Rowan says he read the ledger, bro. Channel Five has a living root system beneath it. He says it is not an ordinary crop. Come back before tomorrow morning. I need you to see this before we decide what to do with it.

Carlos’s body still hurt, but he didn’t want to waste a potion on himself when a little rest could fix him.

The conquest rewards needed immediate attention because they helped improve Ironroot, but the message made him feel stuck between two things that each needed one hundred percent attention.

[Carlos Goldwin]- I will try to get there as soon as possible, man. But there are things I need to make sure are okay here first.

He closed the panel but only a minute later, a message popped up again.
