My Girlfriend Is a Demon Queen
Chapter 41: I’ve never been in love with anyone"Oh crap, sorry! That was an accident."
Himanshu’s face had turned completely red with embarrassment. Not because Demon had asked him that question, but because it was the first time in his life anyone had ever asked him that. His brain just couldn’t calculate what he had just said. It was completely unexpected.
The uncle with glasses standing in front of him wiped the water off his face and yelled in pure frustration,
"Are you crazy, kid? You ruined my whole shirt!"
"I-I’ll clean it up, hang on."
Panicking, Himanshu pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket and reached out to wipe it.
But right then, the man grabbed Himanshu’s wrist tight and jerked it away.
"Get your dirty hands off me. God knows where you people even come from."
Muttering this, he walked away.
And Himanshu’s words of apology just stayed stuck in his mouth. He just watched him walk away into the crowd. A few people passing by were now turning their heads, staring right at him. This public humiliation made Himanshu’s face turn even redder. Feeling embarrassed, he dropped his gaze, and for a few seconds, a weird, awkward silence took over.
But then... he remembered the exact question that caused all this.
He quickly turned toward Demon. His heartbeat was slowly starting to pick up now. If it was any other normal guy in his place, they probably wouldn’t have blushed so much from a girl asking that.
But looking into Demon’s eyes, everything became clear to Himanshu. Her eyes were still narrowed, and there was absolutely zero expression on her face—just like always. Both her arms were crossed over her chest.
"Do you even realize what you just said?" Himanshu asked.
Demon shoved her phone screen straight in front of Himanshu’s face and said,
"It says here, if you care about someone, you love them."
Looking at that trashy AI quote on the screen, Himanshu blinked twice.
Idiot. She doesn’t even know what caring is, let alone love.
Relaxing his tense shoulders, he took a deep breath and said,
"Just because you care about someone doesn’t mean you love them."
Narrowing her eyes even more, Demon said,
"But that’s literally what’s written here."
Himanshu’s shoulders slumped hard. His body went limp like a corpse.
How the hell do I even explain this to her?
This was honestly super hard for Himanshu. It usually took him minutes just to explain a normal thing to his class teacher, and here he was standing in front of an 8000-year-old Demon. Letting out a heavy breath, Himanshu gathered his thoughts and started talking.
"Look, love and care are two totally different things. I mean, yeah, sometimes they overlap. But mostly, it depends on the situation. Caring just makes you a decent human... but love makes you belong to that person."
Hearing this, Demon just kept looking at Himanshu with those same empty, confused eyes.
What am I even blabbering about? Is she even getting any of this? Himanshu thought to himself.
A second later, Demon opened her mouth.
"So you’re saying... love and care are different. Sometimes."
Himanshu let out a sigh of relief.
Well, at least she got the gist of it.
"Yeah. Pretty much."
"Okay." Saying this, Demon shoved her phone in her pocket and started walking ahead, leaving Himanshu behind.
But just as Himanshu was about to start walking, Demon suddenly asked while walking, without turning back,
"Alright then. So what exactly is this love?"
Himanshu’s feet froze right to the ground. He just stood there. He honestly had no idea how to explain this to her. He just kept staring at Demon’s back as she walked ahead, until she finally stopped and turned around to look at him.
Himanshu looked into her eyes for a few seconds, then pulled his gaze away and fixed it on the road ahead. Taking heavy steps, he walked forward, passing right by Demon and stepping ahead of her. just kept watching him, waiting for an answer to her question, until Himanshu was a couple of steps ahead of her.
Stopping his steps, shoving both hands into his pockets, and tilting his head slightly up, he said without looking back.
"I’ve never been in love with anyone. So I honestly have no idea what it is. Or how it feels... People just say you don’t ’do’ love. It just happens."
It just happens.
Saying this brought up an old sting in his mind. In his life, whenever it came down to liking someone, people would always show him a mirror before anything could happen. Even if he ever tried to give someone a little bit of his time, his own self-doubt would force him to take his steps back.
"Oh. So it’s like a disease."
Saying this, Demon walked up from behind and stopped right next to Himanshu.
Without turning his face, Himanshu said softly.
"I guess. Yeah."
The two of them started walking again, matching their steps, shoulder to shoulder. Without looking at each other, just staring straight ahead. But they didn’t even notice who was walking past them or who was coming their way. Their entire focus was just stuck on trying to explain and understand what the other was saying.
"Okay, so with this too... if someone yells at you, you still don’t get mad?" Demon asked.
"Yeah." Himanshu gave a flat reply with zero expression.
"Then what’s even the difference? Care happens on its own without thinking too."
Himanshu stopped walking and narrowed his eyes at Demon. From what Demon just said, he clearly understood that she hadn’t actually understood a single thing about love and caring. She was busy trying to solve it like some math problem. Or you could say, she was trying to find logic in feelings like love and care.
"Seriously, what were you even doing for 8000 years? You don’t know the first thing about love or care," Himanshu said in frustration.
Furrowing her eyebrows, Demon said in a sharp, hard voice,
"None of this matters to a queen, got it? The only thing that ever mattered to me was saving my people and winning wars for my kingdom."
Demon kept bringing her body closer to Himanshu until she was practically about to fall over him. And along with that, she kept jabbing her sharp finger into his chest until she finished her sentence.
Stuff like love and care... it just turns you humans into slaves."
