Gareth started coughing violently, his entire body trembling as he tried to push himself up.

He slowly managed to raise his head.

His mouth remained wide open as he desperately sucked air back into his lungs.

When his eyes finally met Roderic’s, they were filled with pure fury and humiliation.

But beneath both, Roderic caught something else.

’Would you look at that,’ he thought, smirking. ’He’s afraid.’

Roderic’s smirk only widened as he watched Gareth struggle on the ground.

’I have to give him some credit though. The only punching bag even slightly comparable to him was that fatso Darrel.’

By now, countless whispers erupted throughout the hall.

Nobles exchanged glances with wide eyes, barely believing what had just happened.

’’Did he just...’’

’’He actually hit him!’’

’’During the Second Prince’s celebration as well!’’

Roderic ignored all of them.

His attention remained on Gareth, who was slowly being helped up by one of his companions.

Gareth was still sucking in strained breaths, one hand clutching his stomach.

The moment he was on his feet again, his furious eyes locked onto Roderic.

’’You’ll pay for this,’’ he whispered.

Roderic let out a scoff, a mocking smirk appearing on his face.

But before he could respond, a cold voice suddenly rang out from the back of the hall.

’’What is the meaning of this?’’

The whispers died down instantly.

Everyone glanced over to the raised platform, where the Second Prince had risen from his chair.

The pleasant smile he’d worn earlier had disappeared completely as he stared directly at them.

’’Explain your actions, Roderic Whitemane,’’ he said coldly. ’’Or I will have you explain them before a royal inquisitor instead.’’

Roderic’s mocking smirk disappeared right away.

He lowered his head respectfully as he turned towards the Second Prince.

’’Of course, Your Highness,’’ he replied seriously.

He gestured towards Gareth with one arm immediately.

’’Lord Gareth openly insulted House Whitemane and one of its servants. As a son of the house, I could not allow such an insult to go unanswered.’’

A tense silence fell inside the hall.

Everyone stared at the Second Prince, waiting to hear his response.

They’d all heard the blatant disrespect Gareth had shown Roderic.

Thus, for them, this was a great time to evaluate how the prince would react.

The Second Prince remained silent for a moment, his narrowed eyes sweeping across the hall.

’’Disrespect, you say?’’ he finally said, remaining calm.

His gaze shifted towards Gareth.

’’Lord Gareth, can you explain yourself?’’

Gareth stiffened on the spot.

Countless eyes immediately turned towards him.

His face burned with embarrassment, but he quickly forced himself to straighten.

’’Your Highness, I admit my words may have gone too far,’’ he said through gritted teeth. ’’But they were nothing more than words exchanged between two noble houses.’’

He paused, hatefully glancing at Roderic.

’’Lord Roderic was the one who resorted to pointless violence.’’

Several nobles exchanged glances at his response.

Roderic, on the other hand, nearly let out a scoff.

’He’s not completely stupid, I suppose.’

With so many witnesses around, Gareth couldn’t possibly deny what he’d said.

Instead, he’d carefully downplayed his own insults while making Roderic’s response seem completely excessive.

The Second Prince remained quiet, his gaze moving between the two of them.

Finally, he let out a deep sigh.

’’Regardless of what was said, we are nobles, not barbarians,’’ he said calmly. ’’There is a proper way to settle disputes between yourselves.’’

He gestured toward the open ring.

’’If the two of you have a grievance that cannot be settled with words, then settle it there.’’

A small smile appeared on Roderic’s face.

He knew exactly where this was headed.

’’In that case...’’ Gareth’s voice rang out behind him. ’’Roderic Whitemane, I challenge you to a duel.’’

The hall erupted into excited murmurs once more.

Even the Second Prince couldn’t help but smile with satisfaction before sitting down.

Roderic slowly turned around, one eyebrow raised in amusement.

A confident smile had returned to Gareth’s face as he stared directly at him.

’’What do you say?’’ he asked. ’’Or are you only brave enough to attack someone when they aren’t prepared?’’

Roderic stared at him.

After a moment, he truly couldn’t help but chuckle.

’’I’ll accept it, of course,’’ he replied with a wide grin.

Gareth’s eyes lit up.

He immediately flicked his fingers, ordering his attendant to bring him his sword.

At the same time, Roderic casually glanced at Edmund.

The chubby middle-aged man no longer seemed embarrassed. Instead, pity and horror flashed across his face.

As he approached Roderic and handed over two wooden swords, he swallowed hard.

’’Please, young master,’’ he whispered. ’’Don’t go too hard on him...’’

Roderic let out a soft chuckle.

’’Don’t worry about it,’’ he said, accepting the swords. ’’Since it’s a duel, nobody can complain about what’ll happen next.’’

Edmund’s eyes went wide.

Meanwhile, Gareth had already started walking towards the open ring.

With every step he took, his smile grew more and more confident.

’He only caught me by surprise just now,’ he thought, his hand moving towards his aching stomach. ’That won’t happen again.’

They were both One Seal Knights.

But Gareth had awakened his aura when he was sixteen.

That was a two-year difference compared to Roderic!

’He won’t stand a chance against me,’ he thought. ’Three mere months of experience is nothing!’

By the time Gareth stepped foot inside the ring, the humiliation from earlier had almost completely disappeared.

This was his chance to return everything Roderic had done.

No! He would make it even worse!

Gareth turned around and watched Roderic enter the ring a few seconds later.

However, his confident expression quickly turned into confusion.

Roderic wasn’t even looking at him.

Instead, he was staring closely at the two swords in his hands.

Only after another few seconds did Gareth finally realize his fingers were covered in blue aura that slowly seemed to carve small hooks on the ends of his swords.

Gareth’s eyes couldn’t help but narrow.

’What the hell is he doing?’ he thought. ’Is he giving up already?’
