My Husband Is An International Idol

Chapter 103: Getting Better, But Not Quite

Morning sunlight filtered softly through the curtains of Chris’s hospital room.

The room was unusually quiet. Only the steady rhythm of the heart monitor echoed gently.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Liliana had remained awake almost the entire night.

She sat beside Chris’s bed with a book resting on her lap, though she hadn’t turned a single page in over an hour.

Every few minutes she instinctively reached forward to check his forehead. Then adjusted his blanket, making sure the intravenous line remained comfortable.

The nurse quietly smiled from the doorway.

"You really haven’t slept."

Liliana looked up. "I’m not tired."

The nurse laughed softly.

"You know you sounded like a worried wife."

Liliana didn’t have time to deny it and just simply smiled.

The nurse didn’t look like she knew something. For her, it was just a joke.

By afternoon, Chris slowly frowned before opening his eyes. The room appeared blurry at first. Then, his vision gradually focused. And the first thing he saw was Liliana.

She had fallen asleep while sitting beside him, her head resting gently against the edge of the mattress.

One of her hands still held his.

Chris smiled weakly. "...Lily."

His voice remained rough. Almost a whisper.

Liliana immediately woke.

Her eyes widened. "Chris?"

She quickly leaned closer.

"How are you feeling?"

He blinked several times.

"...Like I was hit by a truck."

She couldn’t help laughing.

"That’s a good sign."

He looked confused.

"It means you’re awake enough to complain."

He smiled.

"I missed you."

Liliana gently brushed his blond hair away from his forehead.

"I was here."

"I know."

"I never left."

The doctor entered shortly afterward carrying Chris’s latest chart.

"Good morning."

Chris nodded politely.

"Morning."

The doctor checked his temperature. Then listened carefully to his breathing. Finally, he smiled.

"The fever has gone down."

Liliana immediately relaxed. "What is it now?"

"Thirty-seven point four."

She quietly exhaled. "That’s much better."

The doctor nodded.

"Much better. But..." Everyone immediately looked at him. "He still needs complete rest."

Chris sighed dramatically.

"I knew there was a but."

The doctor smiled.

"Your lungs are improving. Your fever is responding. But your body is still exhausted."

He looked directly at Chris.

"If you try to return to work now, you’ll be back here."

Chris slowly nodded.

"I understand."

Unfortunately, the schedule didn’t.

Robin entered carrying today’s itinerary. He looked almost guilty.

"The company has already postponed the next three appearances."

Matthew followed behind him.

"So has every campaign."

Emily smiled proudly.

"We told everyone. Our main vocalist is under strict orders from the doctor."

Leo stepped inside with Aaron, River, and Nathan.

River immediately walked toward the bed.

"How are you?"

Chris shrugged.

"Alive."

Nathan dramatically wiped imaginary tears. "Our vocalist survived."

Aaron laughed. "We were worried."

Leo folded his arms. "You scared everyone."

Chris looked apologetic.

"I’m sorry."

Leo shook his head.

"No. Just don’t do it again."

Shortly after, Rhythm arrived carrying flowers.

Nicole gently placed them beside the window. "We brought these."

Rose smiled. "The fans sent too many."

Hailey held another basket.

"The nurses said they were running out of space."

Even Audrey and Catherine came together.

Liliana quietly noticed. The two no longer argued. Instead, they carried one basket together.

She smiled..Her conversation with Rhythm had worked.

Audrey stepped forward first.

"You should recover completely. Don’t worry about us."

Catherine nodded. "We’ll behave."

Everyone laughed.

Mary whispered toward Liliana.

"They’ve been getting along."

Liliana smiled warmly.

"I’m happy."

Outside, the crowd hadn’t become smaller. It had grown.

News crews remained stationed outside the hospital. Fans continued arriving from different cities. Many simply stood silently praying. Some sang Pulse songs softly.

Hospital staff had begun arranging the flowers into separate rooms because there were simply too many.

One elderly nurse smiled while reading another handwritten letter.

"I’ve never seen this before."

Another nurse nodded.

"Neither have I."

"They really love him."

"Yes and this is not even his home country."

Back inside the room, Chris quietly watched the television. Every entertainment program discussed only one topic.

His condition.

A reporter stood outside the hospital.

"Fans continue gathering peacefully outside Paris General Hospital."

"They’ve left thousands of flowers and handwritten messages."

"Many have stated they won’t leave until Chris St. Claire has fully recovered."

Chris slowly looked toward the window.

"...They’re still there."

Liliana nodded.

"They are."

He became quiet.

"I worried them."

"You did."

She answered honestly.

"But..." She smiled softly. "You also inspired them."

He looked confused.

She handed him one of the letters delivered earlier that morning.

Chris slowly opened it. The handwriting was clearly from a child.

Dear Chris,

Thank you for singing even when you were sick.

But next time...

Please rest first.

We can wait.

Love,

Sofia, age 9.

Chris smiled sadly. Then another letter.

"Health first."

"Music can wait."

"Please don’t push yourself anymore."

Another.

"We became your fans because of your songs."

"We stayed because you’re human."

"Chris quietly lowered the letters."

His eyes became emotional.

""I always thought the fans wanted perfect performances."

Liliana gently squeezed his hand.

"They don’t."

"They want you."

"The real you."

She smiled.

"And the real you needs rest."

That evening, the doctor performed another examination.

Chris managed to walk a short distance around the room.

Only slowly.

After less than five minutes, he became tired. The doctor immediately helped him sit back down.

"You see?"

Chris nodded.

"...I’m weaker than I thought."

The doctor smiled kindly.

"That’s normal. Influenza doesn’t disappear overnight. You may feel better. But your body hasn’t fully recovered."

Liliana quietly listened to everything and even took notes.

"You’re writing everything down?" Mary asked.

Liliana smiled. "I don’t want to forget."

Emily laughed softly.

"I don’t think he’ll ever be healthier than this."

That night, the hospital finally became quieter. The visitors had gone back to the hotel. Only Liliana remained.

Chris looked toward her.."You should sleep."

She shook her head. "I’m fine."

He smiled. "You always say that."

She laughed. "I learned it from someone."

Chris reached for her hand.

"I’m really getting better."

She nodded.

"I know."

Then she gently touched his forehead once more.

"But..." Her smile softened. "...not quite."

Chris looked at her for a long moment. Then quietly intertwined his fingers with hers.

"I missed you." He said, staring at her.

Then she realized what he was thinking. Her face turned bright red.

"Oh! You—"

He chuckled. "I think that would make me stronger."

She rolled her eyes. "No. We’re in a hospital and you should rest. Doctor’s order."

He scratched his head. "Just one kiss, then."

She laughed. Then immediately kissed him on the lips.

"Rest."

"Fine."

He rested his head on the pillow and closed his eyes.

Outside the hospital window, the lights of Paris shimmered beneath the night sky.

The city waited patiently. So did millions of fans around the world. Because everyone had realized the same thing.

The stage would always be there. The music would always return.

But Chris St. Claire only had one life.

And this time, everyone wanted him to protect it.
