Europe celebrated them. Every city welcomed them. Every concert sold out. And every campaign became another headline.
To the world, the European tour was a dream.
Behind the smiles, someone else was watching.
Always watching.
.....
Aurelia City
Three months earlier.
Victor Reyes sat inside his office, reviewing another folder from Sarah Clifford.
The investigation into Carl De Vera had almost reached a dead end.
Every lead disappeared. Every address was fake. Every phone number had been disconnected.
Sarah entered carrying another stack of documents.
"I checked every bank transaction. Nothing."
Victor sighed. "What about immigration?"
She shook her head. "No departure records under Carl De Vera."
Victor leaned back in his chair.
"Either he’s still here or he left under another identity."
Silence filled the office.
Then, Sarah’s phone rang.
She answered immediately.
"Sarah Clifford speaking."
Her expression slowly changed.
"What?"
Victor immediately looked up.
Sarah grabbed a notebook.
"When?"
...
"Are you certain?"
...
"I understand."
She ended the call.
Victor already knew. "What happened?"
Sarah looked directly at him.
"We finally got something."
An immigration officer had contacted Sarah confidentially. Not because of Carl De Vera. Because of another passport.
A passport that had recently been flagged during an unrelated investigation. The facial recognition system produced an unusual result because the man using it wasn’t the owner.
Victor quietly listened.
"What identity?"
Sarah handed him the report.
Name: Daniel Brown
Nationality: Australian.
Occupation: Freelance photographer.
Victor looked confused.
"This isn’t Carl."
Sarah pointed toward the attached image.
"It isn’t. But look carefully."
Victor stared at the passport photograph.
The hairstyle, the posture, and the jawline. Even though the facial hair and glasses made him look older, Victor felt something familiar.
Sarah quietly spoke.
"The software matched several facial points. Eighty-nine percent."
Victor slowly looked up.
"...Carl."
Sarah nodded. "He altered his appearance."
Victor immediately continued reading.
Then his eyes widened.
"Departure date..."
He looked at Sarah.
"...This can’t be right."
Sarah’s voice became serious.
"He left the country..."
She pointed at the report.
"...one day before Pulse flew to Paris."
Silence.
Neither of them spoke.
Victor slowly lowered the papers.
"...Destination?"
Sarah answered quietly.
"France."
The room suddenly felt much colder.
Victor immediately stood.
"Call Matthew."
Sarah already had her phone.
"He needs to know now."
Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers away, the European tour continued.
Pulse had just finished another rehearsal in Germany. The arena echoed with music.
Chris adjusted his microphone.
"Again from the second chorus."
Leo nodded.
"One more time."
Nearby, Rhythm rehearsed for their opening performance.
Liliana sat beside the stage reviewing tomorrow’s campaign schedule with Mary.
Everything looked peaceful. Safe. Normal.
No one noticed the man standing across the street. A professional camera hung around his neck and a press badge rested against his chest. Dark sunglasses covered half his face.
He slowly lifted the camera.
Click.
Chris laughing with River.
Click.
Liliana talking with Mary.
Click.
Liliana fixing Rose’s hair.
Click.
Every photograph was carefully organized. Every movement documented.
He lowered the camera. A small smile appeared.
"She’s really beautiful."
His voice barely rose above a whisper.
"They haven’t noticed me."
He quietly disappeared into the crowd.
Back in Aurelia City...
Matthew answered Victor’s call almost immediately.
"Victor. Did you find him?"
Victor didn’t waste time.
"I believe so."
Matthew straightened in his chair.
"What happened?"
Victor explained everything. About the fake passport, the altered identity and the departure date to Paris. He told every detail.
Silence followed.
Finally, Matthew asked the question he already feared.
"Do you think..."
"...he followed them?"
Victor answered honestly.
"I don’t think. I believe he did."
Matthew slowly closed his eyes.
Amanda, who had been sitting nearby, immediately noticed his expression.
"What is it?"
He looked at her. "Carl."
Amanda’s face immediately turned pale.
"They found him?"
"No."
Matthew answered quietly. "They found where he went."
Victor continued.
"We’re coordinating with Interpol. We’ve also requested assistance from French, Italian, German, Swiss, and Spanish authorities."
Sarah added from beside him,
"But there’s something worse."
Matthew frowned.
"What?"
Sarah opened another file.
"We reviewed every public photograph posted during the European tour."
She placed several printed pictures on Victor’s desk.
"Look carefully."
One photo from Paris. There were thousands of fans. Nothing unusual.
Another from Milan. The luxury fashion event. Again, nothing.
Then another. Switzerland. Germany.
Concert entrances. Airport arrivals. Street photographs.
Victor slowly leaned forward.
"...Wait."
Sarah nodded.
"You noticed."
Matthew couldn’t see the photographs over the phone.
"What?"
Victor answered.
"The same man."
Every photograph, he was there. He was wearing different clothes and had different hairstyles.
Sometimes he was wearing a cap. Sometimes sunglasses. He was also seen carrying cameras. Sometimes dressed as security staff and sometimes blending in with tourists.
Always, far away. But always watching.
Victor slowly looked toward Sarah.
"...He’s been there."
Sarah nodded.
"Since Paris."
Matthew gripped his phone tighter.
"Why didn’t anyone notice?"
Victor answered honestly.
"Because he never got close. He never approached. He simply..."
Watched.
Amanda covered her mouth. "My God..."
Victor continued.
"He’s patient. He studies their routines and learns the schedules. He waits."
Matthew immediately stood.
"I’m increasing security. Double it."
"No." Victor interrupted.
"Triple it. Treat him as extremely dangerous."
Matthew didn’t argue.
"I will." A brief pause.
"And Victor..."
"Yes?"
"Find him."
Victor’s voice became firm.
"We will. No matter where he is."
That evening, Pulse walked back to their hotel after another rehearsal. Liliana, Nicolo and Mary also returned. Followed by Rhythm and Emily.
Security surrounded them from every direction.
Fans waved excitedly.
Pulse members smiled and waved back. Liliana thanked everyone who greeted her. Rhythm members signed some posters and photocards. While Nicolo simply bowed.
Neither of them noticed that across the street, a man quietly watched from inside a parked café.
A newspaper rested in front of him. Only his eyes were visible above it.
His gaze never left Liliana. Not even once. He smiled faintly. Then took out a small notebook.
One line had already been written.
Paris.
Milan.
Zurich.
Munich.
He uncapped his pen. And slowly added another city.
Vienna.
Then beneath it, he wrote only five words.
Almost time to meet again.
He closed the notebook then finished his coffee. And disappeared once more into the crowd completely unnoticed as he had been the entire time.
