The hospital room had finally become quiet.
After hours of discussions about investigations, old family secrets, and the truth surrounding Edward and Vanessa Sterling’s deaths, everyone quietly excused themselves.
Matthew and Amanda were the last to leave.
Amanda gently kissed Liliana’s forehead.
"Rest. We’ll continue tomorrow."
Liliana smiled weakly.
"I will."
The door closed softly behind them. For the first time since the rescue, it was just the two of them.
Chris remained seated beside her bed. Their hands were still intertwined. Neither of them spoke for several minutes. Silence had never felt so comforting.
Liliana looked at him.
"You haven’t slept."
Chris smiled faintly.
"I wasn’t sleepy."
"That’s a lie."
"It is."
She managed a tiny laugh.
"You’ve always been a terrible liar."
He chuckled quietly.
"I only lie when I’m worried."
Another silence followed.
This time, Liliana was the one who broke it.
"Chris..."
He immediately looked at her.
"What is it?"
She lowered her gaze to their joined hands.
"I need to tell you something."
"You don’t have to."
"I do."
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
"If I keep it inside, I think it’ll keep hurting."
Chris gently squeezed her hand.
"I’m listening."
Liliana closed her eyes for a moment.
"There were times..."
"...when I had to pretend."
She struggled to find the right words.
"I smiled when I didn’t want to and thanked him for the meals. I even cooked once because I thought gaining his trust might give me a chance to escape."
Chris remained completely still.
"I hated every second of it."
Tears slowly gathered in her eyes.
"He... crossed boundaries that made me feel frightened and powerless. I kept thinking, if I showed fear, he might become even more unpredictable. So I pretended to stay calm. But then, he tried to... l’m sorry."
She took a shaky breath.
Chris shook his head. "Lily, I understand. You don’t have to apologize. You did what you had to do."
Liliana’s lips trembled.
"I’ve been afraid that you might look at me differently after hearing that."
Chris’s expression immediately changed. He stood and carefully sat beside her on the bed.
Without hesitation, he wrapped both arms around her.
"Lily."
His voice was shaken.
"Look at me."
She slowly raised her eyes.
"You survived. None of what happened is your fault. Not one second of it."
Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I still feel..."
"...dirty."
Chris gently shook his head.
"No. You are the same Lily I fell in love with. The same little girl who cheered for me. The woman who waited for me for five years. The same wife who crossed the world beside me. No one could take that away from you. And I’m very thankful you’re here with me again."
Liliana buried her face against his shoulder. She cried quietly. Not because she felt alone. But because she finally wasn’t.
After several minutes, Chris spoke again.
"I’m the one who’s sorry."
She looked up.
"What?"
"I’ll never forgive myself."
His voice cracked.
"I was the one who brought you into the entertainment industry. I wanted you close. I thought if we were together I’d be able to protect you."
He looked away.
"But instead, I couldn’t even find you for ten days."
His shoulders began to shake.
"I kept imagining you calling for me. I kept wondering if you thought I wasn’t coming. I searched everywhere. I wasn’t fast enough. I really thought I’d lost you."
A tear slipped down his face. Then another.
Liliana froze. She had seen Chris angry. She had seen him laugh until he cried. She had seen him exhausted after concerts. But she had never seen him cry like this without trying to hide it.
He covered his eyes with one hand.
"I’m sorry."
"So..."
"So sorry. If it wasn’t for me, this would never happen."
Liliana gently took his hand away from his face. She wiped away his tears with her thumb.
"No."
Chris looked at her.
"This wasn’t your fault. He had been planning this for years. He followed me long before I became a model. He knew Sterling Village. He knew me and everyone around me. And he knew our routines."
She smiled sadly.
"If you hadn’t brought me to Aurelia, he might have taken me from our home instead."
Chris stared at her.
"In Sterling Village, no one would’ve known where to look. There were no cameras, no security and no bodyguards."
She intertwined their fingers again.
"You didn’t put me in danger. You gave me a chance to be found."
Chris lowered his head.
"I still wish I had reached you sooner."
"You reached me."
She answered gently.
"That’s what matters."
She rested her forehead against his.
"When I was trapped, I never stopped believing you would come. Every day, I kept telling myself you will find me. I know you would never stop looking for me. And that gave me strength and courage."
A faint smile appeared on Chris’s face through his tears.
"You really believed that?"
"I did. It’s not because you’re an international idol or you’re strong. But because..."
She smiled.
"...you’re my husband. And you’ve never broken a promise to me."
Chris let out a quiet laugh, still emotional.
"I almost did."
"You didn’t."
He leaned forward and kissed her forehead softly.
"I have a promise now."
"What is it?"
"I’m done pretending you’re someone I have to protect by myself."
Liliana blinked.
"What do you mean?"
"It means..."
He smiled gently.
"We’ll carry everything together. The nightmares, the investigation and the truth about your parents. Everything."
She nodded.
"Together."
"Together."
Outside the hospital window, the evening sky slowly darkened.
Neither of them spoke about fear. They didn’t speak about Harry or the past. Instead, they simply remained in each other’s arms, listening to the steady rhythm of their breathing.
It wasn’t enough to erase what had happened. But it was enough to remind them of something far more important.
They had found each other again.
And this time...
Neither intended to let go.
