The penthouse had never felt this tense before. Matthew St. Claire made sure that it was still the safest place for Liliana.

Security personnel stood at every entrance. There were additional guards patrolling the hallways and access permissions were updated. The visitors were screened more thoroughly. Even the elevators required additional clearance.

The message had changed everything. The ripped magazine remained fresh in everyone’s mind. Especially the words written across it.

YOU’RE MINE.

Nobody liked it. Not even a little.

Earlier, the ladies were terrified, their faces turning pale as fear gripped their hearts. But the men’s expressions hardened, their eyes blazing with wrath instead of fear.

That evening, everyone gathered in the living room.

Nobody was watching television. No one was playing games. Everyone was quiet and anxious.

Emily crossed her arms. "I don’t like this."

Mary nodded immediately. "Neither do I."

The cousins rarely agreed this quickly which was concerning.

Nathan sighed. "Can we stop talking about the creepy stalker before I stop sleeping?"

Nicole pointed at him. "You already don’t sleep."

"That’s not the point."

Nicolo sighed. "If it’s happening to Lily, it could happen to us, too. I thought this stalker thing happens only in movies."

Meanwhile, Chris remained unusually quiet. Watching, thinking and at the same time, planning.

Then Emily suddenly raised her hand.

"Oh no." Robin immediately looked concerned.

Whenever Emily had ideas, trouble usually followed.

"We need a new sleeping arrangement."

The room froze.

Robin closed his eyes. "I already hate this conversation."

Emily ignored him. "As far as I’m concerned, Liliana shouldn’t be sleeping alone."

Mary nodded. "Agreed."

Nicole nodded. "Yes. I’m with Emily this time."

Rose raised her hand as well. "I think it’s better for her to always be with someone."

Nathan nodded. "Round the clock! Definitely agreed."

Robin sighed. "Security has already increased."

Emily pointed dramatically. "Security can’t sleep beside her. If something happens to her while we all sleep, would you take responsibility?"

The room became silent.

Then everyone slowly turned toward Chris.

Robin immediately pointed. "No."

"Robin—"

"No."

"Listen first."

"No."

Emily grinned. "Chris should stay with her."

The room exploded.

Aaron nearly choked on his drink. River laughed so hard he almost fell from the sofa. And Leo immediately was smiling suspiciously.

Robin sighed. "Absolutely not. There are a lot of people here. I don’t think the stalker could enter this place."

"But he was able to give the envelope to Liliana. And St. Claire tower has a lot of people and security." Emily chuckled in sarcasm.

Then something unexpected happened.

Liliana suddenly spoke. "I want him to."

The room stood still. Nobody was able to react.

Robin froze and wasn’t able to disagree.

Chris was a bit surprised. He didn’t expect Liliana to agree to the idea.

And the rest exchanged meaningful glances.

Liliana looked down slightly, then smiled.

"I feel safer when he’s around." She whispered.

Another complete silence filled the room.

Chris’s heart immediately forgot how to function. Because the woman he loved. His wife had just openly admitted she felt safest with him.

Meanwhile, the others noticed his expression.

And immediately started grinning.

"Oh." River pointed. "Look at his face."

Aaron nodded. "He’s happy."

Leo looked emotional. "It’s actually sweet."

Nathan looked disgusted. "Why do all married people become like this?"

Chris ignored all of them because he was too busy trying not to smile.

Robin consulted Matthew St. Claire who eventually approved the arrangement.

So by ten o’clock that night, Chris found himself standing outside Liliana’s bedroom, holding a pillow.

Wondering why everyone seemed more excited than he was.

The answer came quickly because everyone wanted to tease him.

Aaron patted his shoulder. "Stay strong."

River nodded. "We believe in you."

Chris frowned. "Believe in me for what?"

Leo immediately answered. "Your self-control."

The room exploded.

Chris pointed toward the hallway. "Go away."

Nobody moved so he physically pushed them away, then entered the bedroom.

It was quiet, peaceful, and comfortable. Chris sat on one side of the massive bed, trying to remain calm and normal.

Then he heard the bathroom door open. He looked up which he immediately regretted.

Because when Liliana stepped out, a large towel was wrapped around her and her hair was still damp from the shower.

She froze. Her eyes widened.

Chris wasn’t able to look away. Or he couldn’t.

Both stared at each other without saying a word.

Then Liliana exclaimed. "Oh my!"

Chris immediately looked at the ceiling, the wall, the lamp, the floor. Anywhere and everywhere.

Except her.

"I forgot my clothes." She said nervously.

"Okay."

"I left them over there." She pointed.

"Okay. I’ll get it for you." Chris stood up to get her clothes and slowly handed it to her, without looking.

"Chris?"

"Yes?"

"Why are you staring at the lamp?"

"It’s a very nice lamp."

Liliana immediately understood. Her face turned bright red. She quickly grabbed her clothes and disappeared back into the bathroom.

The door closed.

Chris immediately buried his face in a pillow. "This is a test."

The universe clearly hated him.

A few minutes later, Liliana returned wearing comfortable pajamas.

Chris finally relaxed. A little.

Then they went to bed.

The bed was enormous. It was large enough for several people. But Chris positioned himself carefully, on one side and very far away.

A safe and respectful distance. Maybe a survival distance.

When the mattress shifted, Chris immediately became alert.

Liliana slowly moved closer, until her head rested comfortably on his shoulder.

Chris stopped breathing.

"Is this okay?" Liliana asked softly.

Chris stared at the ceiling. His brain had completely left the conversation.

"Chris?"

"Yes."

"Is this okay?"

"Perfectly okay." His voice cracked.

Liliana giggled which somehow made things worse. Because now she smelled like shampoo and fresh flowers. His heart was beating so loudly he was convinced security could hear it from outside.

Meanwhile, Liliana looked perfectly comfortable.

Unlike Chris, she wasn’t fighting for her life. She simply wanted comfort, safety and warmth. He happened to provide all three.

Several minutes passed, and Chris remained completely motionless.

Eventually, Liliana looked up. "You’re very stiff. I might think you’re not comfortable with me beside you."

Chris nearly choked. "No. It’s not like that. I’m just trying to sleep."

"No, you’re not."

"I absolutely am."

"You look like a statue." She laughed.

Eventually even Chris started laughing.

The tension, fear and awkwardness quickly disappeared..

And before long, Liliana fell asleep peacefully.

Chris looked down at her sleeping face. Then smiled.

The day had been terrifying. The threats were real. And the danger was growing.

But for now, at least tonight, she was safe. And somehow that was enough.

Outside the room, three very suspicious individuals stood near the door.

River, Aaron and Leo.

"Do you think they’re asleep?" River whispered.

"Probably." Aaron answered.

Leo nodded. "Definitely."

The bedroom door suddenly opened. All three immediately ran.

Unfortunately, they ran in different directions and crashed into each other. The entire hallway echoed with their screaming pain.

Chris slowly closed the door again. Some things would never change.
