The day off ended far too quickly.
By Monday morning, St. Claire Entertainment had returned to its usual rhythm. The lobby buzzed with trainees hurrying toward practice rooms, managers rushed from one meeting to another, stylists pushed racks of designer clothing through the hallways, and music poured from the dance studios while photographers prepared for another series of campaigns.
Everything had returned to normal.
Almost.
Because one thing had changed.
Chris.
Ever since the latest envelope arrived, ever since Carl De Vera entered the company, Chris had become noticeably more protective of Liliana.
No one questioned it anymore. Not after his livestream.
Not after he publicly admitted that he had asked Liliana to reject intimate campaigns with other men.
Even the employees had accepted it.
The country’s biggest international idol had become hopelessly protective of one woman.
And surprisingly, most people thought it was rather sweet.
That morning, another black luxury sedan pulled up outside the modeling department. The security team exited first, scanning the surroundings before opening the passenger door.
Liliana stepped out, followed immediately by Chris, who once again insisted on escorting her inside.
"You really don’t have to do this every day."
Liliana laughed as they walked toward the entrance.
Chris smiled without looking at her.
"I know."
"You just enjoy ignoring me."
"I enjoy making sure you arrive safely."
Liliana smiled helplessly.
After the envelopes...
She couldn’t argue with him anymore.
The moment they entered the building, employees greeted them warmly.
"Good morning, Miss Sterling."
"Good morning, Mr. St. Claire."
Several trainees respectfully stepped aside to let them pass. Ever since Matthew’s interview and Chris’s livestream, the atmosphere inside the company had changed completely. Gone were the malicious whispers and suspicious glances. In their place were quiet smiles and genuine respect.
Near the elevators, Nicolo appeared carrying a large portfolio case over one shoulder.
"Morning."
"Morning."
Chris nodded toward the case.
"Another photoshoot?"
Nicolo grinned proudly.
"For Chanel."
He chuckled.
"Nathan still insists I smell expensive now."
Liliana laughed.
"You do."
The three stepped into the elevator together, chatting casually until the doors opened onto the modeling floor.
Silence.
Complete silence.
Every trainee in the hallway was staring toward the entrance.
Chris frowned, then he immediately understood why.
Standing outside one of the studios was Carl De Vera.
He wore an oversized white shirt, loose beige baggy pants, white sneakers, a silver necklace, and even the watch on his wrist looked almost identical.
Chris slowly lowered his eyes toward himself.
White shirt, loose beige baggy pants, white sneakers, silver necklace and the same watch.
This wasn’t simply similar anymore. It was exactly the same outfit. Even the brand of the shirt matched.
An uncomfortable silence spread throughout the hallway. Several trainees exchanged uneasy glances.
"They look like twins."
Another immediately whispered back,
"Except one is obviously copying."
Nicolo stared for several long seconds before rubbing his forehead.
"This is getting out of hand."
Even Liliana couldn’t hide her surprise. Her eyes moved from Carl to Chris before lingering on the newcomer a little longer.
The resemblance had become unsettling.
Carl noticed them almost immediately.
His usual polite smile appeared.
"Good morning."
Chris acknowledged him with nothing more than a brief nod.
Liliana politely returned the greeting before continuing toward the training room.
Chris remained standing for another moment.
Watching.
Studying.
Carl smiled again.
Almost...
As though he enjoyed being compared.
Before following Liliana, Chris quietly leaned toward Nicolo so only he could hear.
"Don’t leave her alone."
Nicolo understood instantly.
He nodded once.
"I won’t."
Chris squeezed his cousin-in-law’s shoulder before turning away without another word.
The moment the elevator doors closed, his smile disappeared. And by the time he reached the executive floor, his expression had turned completely cold.
Robin was already waiting outside his office, a thick brown folder tucked beneath one arm.
"I finished the background check."
Chris immediately took the file.
"This is everything?"
Robin nodded.
"Everything we could find."
Chris began reading while walking toward his office.
Carl De Vera’s academic records, previous agencies, employment history, modeling competitions, medical records, social media accounts and family information.
At first glance, everything appeared perfectly ordinary.
Chris continued turning the pages.
Then, he suddenly stopped walking.
Robin nearly walked into him.
"What happened?"
Chris slowly turned another page.
Then another.
His eyes narrowed.
"This..." he whispered, "...doesn’t make sense."
Robin frowned.
"What doesn’t?"
Chris didn’t answer.
Instead, he continued reading in silence.
Different addresses.
Unexplained employment gaps.
Recommendation letters that couldn’t be verified.
Former modeling agencies with no record of ever representing Carl despite being listed on his résumé.
Tiny inconsistencies.
Individually insignificant.
But together, it was impossible to ignore.
Someone had cleaned his history carefully and professionally.
Chris slowly closed the folder.
"He didn’t just copy me."
Robin looked confused.
"What do you mean?"
Chris remained silent for several seconds, replaying every encounter in his mind.
The copied hairstyle, identical clothes, rehearsed gestures, getting close to Liliana, and volunteering to replace him in the Prada campaign.
Now, a suspicious background.
Then one sentence suddenly echoed inside his mind.
Sarah Clifford’s voice.
"Some people don’t hide who they are."
"They create someone else instead."
Chris immediately turned around.
"Come with me."
A few minutes later, the doors to Matthew St. Claire’s office opened.
Matthew looked up from his desk.
"Chris?"
Without saying a word, Chris placed the folder in front of him.
"You need to read this."
Matthew immediately noticed the look on his son’s face.
Focused. Serious. Concerned.
He silently opened the file.
Several minutes passed. The chairman’s expression gradually darkened.
Finally, he looked back up.
"You think these records are fake."
"I know they are."
Matthew raised an eyebrow.
"How?"
Chris pointed at one page.
"Three different residential addresses within four years."
He flipped to the next.
"This modeling agency closed before he supposedly worked there."
Another page.
"This recommendation letter doesn’t even have a signature."
Another.
"These two employment periods overlap."
Matthew became silent. Because Chris was right. The inconsistencies were everywhere. Small enough to escape a casual review.
But impossible to miss once someone looked carefully.
Chris folded his arms.
"I think someone built this identity."
The office fell silent.
Robin slowly looked down at the file.
"This isn’t just a fake résumé."
Chris nodded.
"No."
His voice became quieter.
"I think Carl De Vera himself..."
"...might be fake."
No one spoke.
Matthew slowly rose from his chair and walked toward the window, staring out over the company grounds while carefully considering everything he had just read.
After a long silence, he turned back.
"What do you want me to do?"
Chris didn’t hesitate.
"Call Victor Reyes."
"And Sarah Clifford."
Matthew looked directly into his son’s eyes.
"Why?"
Chris glanced once more at Carl’s profile lying open across the desk before answering.
"Because I just realized something."
Another brief silence followed.
Then he quietly finished.
"...Carl De Vera isn’t just a copycat."
His gaze hardened.
"...he’s a dangerous man."
The office fell completely silent. Because everyone in that room knew one thing.
Chris St. Claire rarely judged people.
But when he did...
He was almost never wrong.
