My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 224: Alliance Of The Middle-Ranked Tribes [Part 2]"Leone, be careful of honey traps," Duncan commented from the side. "Also, be careful of what you eat when you visit other tribes. These two might not do it, but I won’t put it past them to add something that might cloud your judgment to your food and drinks."
"Nonsense!" Garen scoffed. "Who do you think I am? Oswald might do it, but not me. I will never do that to Leone."
"You bastard! Are you implying that I’ll do such a lowly thing?!" Oswald snorted. "Don’t listen to him, Leone. This guy cannot be trusted."
The young man chuckled at those words. He found the friendly banter between the chieftains of the middle-ranked tribes quite amusing.
In fact, Duncan, Oswald, and Garen didn’t really get along very well. If anything, the three of them were rivals.
However, after spending time with Leone, they had to admit that the rivalry they had held for each other over the years was slowly turning into a special kind of friendship.
Also, since Leone had stated that all the middle-ranked tribes like them should stick together, an alliance of sorts had unknowingly been formed among them.
Nothing was officially set in stone, but if Leone opened up this discussion to them, the three chieftains would definitely jump onto the bandwagon without hesitation.
And that was what he decided to do.
"Since we all get along very well, how about we all form an alliance then?" Leone asked. "Of course, I’m not asking any of you to fight with me against the Darkmane Tribe. I just want to have more exchanges with the three of you after I’ve dealt with my problems."
"I’m down for an alliance." Duncan didn’t even blink before agreeing to Leone’s proposal.
"I think it’s about time for all the middle-ranked tribes to work together as one." Garen nodded. "I’m in."
"Good!" Oswald chuckled. "The strongest alliance in the Borderlands shall be born today. Let’s show those high-ranking tribes what we are all made of!"
"""Yeah!"""
The four chieftains clinked mugs with each other and officially acknowledged their alliance.
Leone soon started talking about possible trades, prompting him to ask the three chieftains what products they needed so that the Aslan Tribe could provide it for them.
"Um, you know, eating bread is considered a luxury here in the Borderlands," Oswald said. "And yet, we eat it every day. Mind you, this is the most delicious type of bread I have eaten in my life. If possible, I’d like you to provide us with wheat flour for a fair price."
"How much does a sack of wheat flour usually cost?" Leone asked.
"A gold coin," Oswald answered.
"Huh?!" Leone blinked. "A gold coin for a sack of wheat flour?!"
It was perfectly normal for Leone to be surprised. After all, in the Kingdom of Britannia, a sack of wheat flour only cost two silver coins!

"Isn’t that too expensive?!" Leone asked. "What kind of insane inflation do you have here in the Borderlands?!"
"Leone, I think you’re forgetting that most of us are hunters, not farmers." Garen chuckled. "Farming isn’t easy in the Borderlands. After all, monsters regularly destroy fields here. Plus, compared to the Kingdom of Britannia, our agricultural expertise is... not that good."
Oswald nodded in agreement. "Didn’t I tell you? Eating bread is a luxury only the high-ranking tribes can afford. However, I’m sure even they hadn’t eaten bread as delicious as the ones you serve here.
"The sandwich I had for breakfast today had meat and cheese, and it tasted heavenly. I didn’t even know you could eat bread with meat and cheese!"
Leone did his best to keep the smile on his face from breaking.
Yet, he failed.
Now he remembered why Yuni and Aria were so happy when he baked bread for them for the first time. He had truly underestimated how luxurious it was to eat bread in the Borderlands!
"I-I see..." Leone coughed lightly. "Very well. Since we are all allies, I will give you all a special discount. How does two silver coins for a sack of wheat flour sound?"
Three things happened at once after Leone stated his price.
Garen choked on the food he was eating and started coughing.
Oswald dropped the mug in his hand, splashing water on his pants.
And Duncan stared at Leone as if he had grown a second head.
"T-Two silver coins per sack?" Oswald stuttered. "Deal! I’ll buy all of your stock!"
"You bastard. Do you want to die?!" Garen glared at the shameless chieftain who decided to purchase all of the wheat flour in bulk.
"Leone, ignore these two monkeys," Duncan said calmly. "I won’t purchase all of your stock. Only half will do."
"Shut up, you punk!" Garen shouted. "Who are you calling a monkey?!"
The three chieftains then started to bicker with each other, causing even the guards outside to check in on the situation. They were so loud that everyone could hear their shouts outside.
After confirming that they were just having an argument and were not actually fighting each other, the guards retreated and continued to guard the door, preventing anyone from disturbing their chieftain’s lunch meeting.
"Okay, everyone. Calm down," Leone said calmly. "I can sell ten sacks of flour to all of you when you leave the Aslan Tribe. There’s no need to fight. Also, make sure to keep the price a secret from the others for now. I plan to sell it to the Grimhowl Tribe for a higher price.
After hearing they would all get an equal share, the three chieftains finally calmed down. They were also very happy to hear that they were getting a discount compared to the Grimhowl Tribe, who were richer than they were.
"I also want to purchase soap and that thing you call shampoo," Oswald stated. "Is that possible?"
"Of course," Leone nodded. "However, we don’t have isn’t that much right now. At most, I can only give you all a dozen soaps and shampoos."
The three chieftains were fine with this agreement. After all, Leone promised to provide more of it after his war with the Darkmane Tribe ended.
After a hearty lunch and discussion, Leone finally returned inside the fortress to get some rest.
Many things happened in the past few hours, and frankly, he felt exhausted after talking to many people.
On his way back, he bumped into Yuni, who looked at him with concern.
"Are you alright?" Yuni asked. "You look very tired."
"I don’t just look tired. I am indeed tired," Leone replied.
The young lady understood that Leone was quite busy dealing with their many guests. She also believed that he must be feeling a bit pressured. After all, the people he was meeting with were all big shots.
Wanting to do something for him, Yuni decided to ask if Leone wanted a massage.
"I’d love to... but I ate a lot just a while ago," Leone replied. "How about tonight? That way, I will be able to fall asleep straight away."
"Sounds good." Yuni nodded. "I’ll massage you tonight before you sleep."
"Thank you," Leone replied before heading to his house inside the fortress.
Yuni watched his retreating back until he disappeared from her sight.
She could still remember the first time she met Leone. He had fallen from the sky and landed on the altar of their desperate tribe.
Back then, he didn’t look reliable.
But now, he was carrying the entirety of the Aslan Tribe on his back, facing everyone who dared to threaten their peace.
In her eyes, the young man, who was weaker than a squirrel back then, now shone like the sun.
A sun that illuminated her world, driving away the darkness that had almost consumed her during the darkest moment of her life.
