My Kingdom Building Done Right!

Chapter 299: Let The Heavens Hear Our Cry! [Part 1]

The sound of soft sobs spread throughout the Hidden Valley, amplified by the silence.

The Aslan Tribe and the Ravage Tribe were conducting the burial rites for their brave warriors who had died during the defense of the Aslan Tribe.

As for the Red-Scale Tribe, they didn’t suffer any casualties during the battle, but their tribe members received serious injuries. Leone had personally treated them all, and they were now on their way to recovery.

Leone originally wanted to ask his great uncle, Gundar, to oversee the ritual. However, the Aslan Tribe, as well as the Ravage Tribe, told their chieftain that they wished one of their own shamans to do it instead.

And with that, Kael and Rasta took the lead in hosting this joint burial ceremony.

Both shamans chanted the ancient rites to ensure that the departed returned to the womb of the Earth Mother.

Leone was quite surprised. It turned out that the Orcs also worshiped the Earth Mother, just like the barbarians.

As for the Kobolds, they worshiped the Dragon God.

One by one, the members of the Aslan Tribe offered flowers to the pyre that would soon be lit to cremate the dead.

Although it wasn’t part of the Ravage Tribe’s custom to offer flowers to the dead, they decided to imitate the Aslan Tribe, giving their brethren the same care the barbarians did.

When everyone was done, Kael and Rasta both handed torches to Leone and Logan.

Since they were the chieftains of their respective tribes, it was up to them to light the pyre that would help their brave warriors find their way to the Earth Mother’s embrace.

As the flames slowly spread across the altar, Leone closed his eyes, knelt on the ground, and offered one last silent prayer.

The God whom the Kingdom of Britannia worshiped wasn’t the Earth Goddess, but the Goddess of Light.

Their religion originated in the Radiant Empire, influencing them when it spread across the continent.

Leone’s mother, Helen, made sure that her children followed the teachings of the Goddess of Light.

However, Leone prayed not to the Goddess of Light, Aurielle. Following the belief of the deceased, he prayed to the Earth Goddess instead.

This was actually his first time earnestly praying to her since he had been exiled in the Borderlands.

Yet then and there, he felt something warm spreading throughout his entire body.

At that moment, the young man felt like someone was hugging him from behind. He could tell that this wasn’t Yuni or Aria. If anything, the embrace felt similar to how it felt when he was being hugged by his mother when he was still a child.

That hug was filled with warmth and love, as if he was the most precious thing in the world.

Then he heard someone whisper in his ear.

"Rest your heart, my child. They have found their way home."

A single tear fell from Leone’s face, followed by another.

He didn’t know if everything he heard just now was only a fragment of his imagination. But it still made him feel like his prayer had been answered.

It assured him that the fallen warriors of his tribe had finally returned to where they were meant to be.

A place they could call home.

It didn’t take long for the members of the Aslan and Ravage Tribe to notice that Leone was crying silently while still kneeling in prayer.

For some reason, they felt like they must not touch or call out to him at this moment.

It was an instinct that came from the very depths of their being, telling them that they shouldn’t disturb this sacred moment where the young man was communing with the Goddess, who had heard his heartfelt prayer.

A few minutes later, Leone finally opened his eyes. He used the back of his hand to wipe the tears from his eyes before standing back up.

The flames were still burning bright as a few warriors stood vigil until the final embers died down.

Leone would then gather their ashes and create a memorial for them at the base of the mountain, making sure that these brave warriors wouldn’t be forgotten.

In fact, he planned to make everyone remember this day as the Aslan Tribe’s Victory Day.

An event that would be celebrated once a year to honor not only the warriors of the Aslan Tribe, but also the warriors who had fought alongside them.

With their example, the other tribes also started to gather the corpses of their comrades, planning to bring them back home.

There, they would be given their own burial rites as part of the customs of their respective tribes.

"Leone, everything has been prepared for the Darkmane Tribe’s burial rite ceremony," Daedalus said through telepathy.

"Thank you, Daedalus," Leone replied.

Just as the grimoire had stated, the Darkmane Tribe would also conduct their ceremony an hour before sunset.

Among the tribes in the Borderlands, their losses exceeded ten thousand.

Leone knew Jafar could turn them into Undead. And so, he had asked the shaman if he planned to do so. Though to his surprise, the shaman rejected the idea.

No. It wasn’t Jafar who rejected the idea.

The one who rejected it was Troy.

"Let them return to the Earth Mother’s embrace. They have already shed enough blood for my sake. I won’t deny them the peace they have earned."

It was also Troy who had asked Leone to allow him to bury his people in the domain of the Aslan Tribe.

The young chieftain agreed and even promised to prepare the altar so Troy and Jafar could give their fallen brethren a warrior’s burial.

That burial site was only a few hundred meters away from the first line of defense of the Aslan Tribe.

Leone had created an altar that was a hundred meters deep, placing the dead warriors of the Darkmane Tribe inside ‌it.

While storing living things inside Daedalus’ pages had a time limit, it could store non-living things without problems.

It had gathered the dead bodies during the night, ensuring no one could see what it was doing in the darkness.

And now that the war had ended, the tribes would return to their territories.

However, they would first head to the Bonegnash Tribe to make them pay for what they had done.

During the war, Leone had ordered Otto to eliminate all the robed men that were with the monster army.

Since they already had proof that the Bonegnash Tribe was behind it, there was no need to keep them alive.

After all, he didn’t want them to return and inform their chieftain that their plan had failed.

This would also prevent Osteon from being sufficiently prepared for the backlash of his failed attempt to eliminate the chieftains of the Borderlands.

The young man even thought of sending a small team to the Bonegnash Tribe to represent the Aslan Tribe.

But in the end, he refrained from doing so.

While he had already told Troy and Jafar that Darkmane City was no more, there was still a chance that the warriors of the Darkmane Tribe would do something reckless and attack the Aslan Tribe’s delegation.

To prevent that from happening, he decided to let Troy and Jafar handle the rest.

He had planned to assist them as much as he could to ensure that Osteon would pay for his crimes.

While the relationship of the Aslan Tribe and the Darkmane Tribe would still be a complicated one after the war, at the very least, both sides no longer wished to antagonize each other.

If anything, Leone hoped that this would be the last time they would fight against each other.

The Borderlands had already buried enough sons, fathers, brothers, and friends to satisfy even the cruelest of wars.

But for a new future to be forged, the old debts must be repaid.

The Bonegnash Tribe would soon learn that the united wrath of the Borderlands was far more terrifying than any monster horde...

No.

The wrath of the Darkmane Tribe, who had suffered the most losses in this war, would make the Bonegnash Tribe regret their decision.

Troy had never been a merciful chieftain. And after everything he had experienced in his campaign, he needed an outlet to vent his anger and frustration.

While the Bonegnash Tribe had more warriors than the current Darkmane Tribe, it didn’t matter.

Leone would arm them with enough firepower to even the odds.

Not only did Leone plan to let the Darkmane Tribe borrow their Fireshard Catapults, but he would also make the surviving Darkmane Tribe Lions transform.

He had already talked to Troy about it, and the latter agreed.

And right now, somewhere in the Hidden Valley, thirteen Dark Manticores were resting after their arduous transformation.

While these Dark Manticores weren’t as strong as the previous Guardian of the Darkmane Tribe, they were still Rank 6 Monsters.

With the Fireshard Catapults and these powerful beasts at Troy’s disposal, Leone almost felt sorry for the Bonegnash Tribe.

For they would soon face the wrath of Troy, who had shed his humanity and had become a monster.

A monster who would soon bear his fangs, not against Leone and the Aslan Tribe, but at the unlucky chieftain of the Bonegnash Tribe, who was about to get his just deserts.
