"A toast to our allies. With that, let us all welcome Lost Paradise!" Leone declared as he raised the goblet in his hand. "Cheers!"
"""Cheers!"""
That afternoon, a feast was held in honor of the mercenary group that had come to assist the Aslan Tribe in the upcoming war.
Conall sat on the seat of honor beside Leone, and his men sat at the same table. He exchanged a toast with Leone, and thanked him for throwing a welcoming feast for them.
Everyone was making merry and was in a festive mood. The tribe members were also paying close attention to their guests, wanting to know more about them.
Oisin, the bard of the mercenary group, got up and switched to Vlad’s table. The teenager had promised to tell him about Leone’s heroic tales earlier, and a bard would never miss a good story.
It was no surprise that the two hit it off right away. In fact, they even schemed behind Leone’s back, planning to compose a song in praise of the chieftain.
Little did the two of them know that this song would later be sung across the entire continent in the future, hailing the future Hero King, Leone Frontera.
Conall observed the Aslan Tribe, the Ravage Tribe, the Red-Scale Tribe, and the Bonegnash Tribe, who had all joined in on the festivities.
As a mercenary, he found it very easy to read people—a skill he developed from experiencing a fair share of betrayals and hardships throughout his long years as a mercenary group leader.
They said one could tell if a King was good or not by the attitude of his subjects.
From what he could see, the Aslan Tribe and their allies were all genuinely happy under Leone’s rule.
Truth be told, Conall was most surprised that the proud and brave Orcs had allied with a human tribe.
After all, they were known to dislike humans. So, seeing them drink with humans was baffling.
He wasn’t the only one suffering from culture shock.
Dian, the High Elf of their group, also wondered if Leone had practiced some kind of black magic, allowing him to charm these ferocious monsters.
However, after that initial shock passed, Dian’s attention shifted from the monsters to a particular young lady seated at a table a few meters away from him.
"Go on, Aria," Yuni said in a teasing tone. "Just drink a little bit of this fruit wine. Don’t worry. This is diluted, so you won’t get drunk by just drinking a single cup."
"Are you sure?" Aria asked. "You’re not lying, right?"
"Yes, I’m sure," Yuni replied. "Why would I lie to you? I’m also drinking it, see?"
"You shouldn’t drink too much. After all, it’s your turn to take care of Leone tonight."
"Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of him later."
The two ladies exchanged a knowing glance before shifting their attention toward Leone, who was also sipping fruit wine.
Sensing their gaze, Leone stared in their direction and raised his goblet as if toasting to the two of them.
Yuni and Aria glanced at each other in response before giggling at the same time. They then returned Leone’s gesture and toasted with him from afar.
Dian paid close attention to this exchange between the teenagers as he calmly drank the fruit wine in his cup.
Earlier, when he first saw Yuni, Dian almost blurted out the word, "Sister?" but managed to stop himself in time.
The young lady wasn’t exactly the spitting image of his sister, but it didn’t change the uncanny resemblance between the two of them.
"Excuse me. Can I ask something?" Dian asked Otto, who was seated at the table right next to him.
"Yes?" Otto looked back at their guest with a smile.
"That lady over there. Can you tell me the name of her parents?" Dian asked, subtly pointing at Yuni with his thumb. "Also, what is her relationship with Leone?"
Otto looked in the direction where Dian was pointing at before giving a reply. "Are you talking about Yuni or Aria?"
"The one with red hair," Dian answered.
"Ah. It’s Yuni, then." Otto nodded in understanding. "I have no idea who her mother is, but her father’s name is Ulric. As for her relationship with Leone, she is our Great Chieftain’s lover. The lady beside her, Aria, is also one of Leone’s lovers."
Dian nodded as he did his best to keep the smile on his face from breaking after hearing Ulric’s name. Now that he knew the name of Yuni’s father, his suspicion had finally been confirmed.
’So it really is her.’ Dian narrowed his eyes while looking at the young lady in the distance. "Is her father around?"
"No," Otto replied. "He is one of our representatives in the Tribal Gathering held in Eden, so he left earlier."
"I see. Thank you for answering my questions."
"You’re welcome."
Dian then shifted his attention back to Leone, giving the young man a complicated gaze. He hadn’t expected his mission in the Borderlands to actually bear such fruit.
’What a small world,’ Dian thought to himself before pouring himself another cup and chugging it in one go.
There were many things swirling inside of his head at the moment. Frankly, even he didn’t know how he should handle the current situation.
’I’ll just focus on the mission for now.’ Dian held the cup in his hand a little tighter. ’After all, there will be enough time to think about what to do next during my stay here in the Borderlands.’
After finally making a decision, Dian finally calmed down a bit and joined Oisin and Vlad’s table.
Right now, he needed more information.
And what better place to gather information than the loose lips of a teenager, who was happily telling their guests how Leone became the Chieftain of the Aslan Tribe?
"...And then Leone led the charge to save Troy from the Monster King," Vlad, who was obviously intoxicated by the fruit wine, said with a flushed face. "You should have seen it! He also defeated an Ogre Warlord singlehandedly!"
"He did?!" Oisin looked back at the teenage boy in shock. "How did he do it?!"
The warriors of the Aslan Tribe looked at Vlad with amused expressions on their faces. They all listened as the teenager exaggerated the story to highlight Leone’s courage and bravery.
"Leone picked up a boulder that was the size of a bull and smashed it against the Ogre Warlord’s head," Vlad stated. "Then, he slapped the Bronze Dragon’s face and sent it flying with one hand!"
"Unbelievable!" Oisin’s hand was moving in a blur as he wrote down Vlad’s story on a small booklet with a magic pen. "He really slapped the Monster King silly with one hand?"
"Yes!" Vlad nodded, swaying on the spot as he continued his story. "He even said, ’You are a hundred years too early in fighting me, Monster King. Now, prepare to face the consequences of your folly!’"
"Incredible!" Oisin praised. "Fantastic! This is going to be a masterpiece!"
The corner of Dian’s lips twitched as he listened to the teenage boy’s tale. How could Leone, who looked frail and weak, actually slap a dragon silly?
Still, he listened. The words coming out of Vlad’s mouth might be exaggerated and mixed with lies, but some truth lay beneath it.
As for Oisin, he didn’t really care whether Vlad was lying or not.
After all, for bards, an exaggerated story was far better than a boring story. In fact, when it came to spinning exaggerated tales, no one could do it better than bards and minstrels, who traveled the land and did entertainment for a living.
Conall chuckled. "It seems that you are well-loved, Leone."
He had superhuman senses, so it was very easy for him to hear what the people on the other table were talking about.
"I guess?" Leone smiled back. "My subjects care for me very much."
"I can see that." Conall nodded in agreement. "If your great-grandfather was here, I’m sure he would be very proud of you."
The veteran mercenary knew that his Master, Lugh, liked to brag about anything and everything good about their family.
Although Leone’s surname was not Helion, he was still family.
Even now, Conall was very tempted to ask Leone to bring Lugh briefly to the Aslan Tribe, just so his Master could see for himself the kingdom his great-grandson was building within the Borderlands.
