I understand the criticism but we don’t have a way to keep track of everyone. Some people will inevitably use the training techniques for bad purposes. It could even form a new world order. The world’s order has already been shaken and changed. I don’t know if it should be changed further or prevented.

Imagine a world where the person who gets a promotion isn’t the one who deserves it but the one who is stronger. Though to be fair, promotions before were done in a similar way. Whether nepotism or brownnosing. It seemed like it was always someone else who got promoted over the deserving.

I guess I can let everyone get body training techniques, but we have to set up an identification method.

If the awakener’s association is one thing. Then we will have to create another for the nonawakened. Or I could just make a card in house.

Yeah, let’s do that. We can start issuing identity cards for customers. They just need to have a valid government ID. We need that to share the information with the government.

But, at least this will get people access and also work to prevent kids from getting their hands on it. They don’t have the emotional stability or reasoning to be allowed to have such power. Not in our current world.

After talking with Xue Qing on how to implement my idea for allowing the public to get training techniques, she brought up something.

She asked, "How would you feel about some fresh air and looking around the city?"

I was a bit confused, "Huh? What do you mean? Don’t we have work to do?"

"Yes. However, you can’t work like this. For the past few weeks you haven’t stopped working or left the bunker. It’s not healthy to work nonstop like this. You need to take a break, I need to take a break."

"I can keep working, I don’t feel tired. Besides, someone has to do this job to keep society functioning."

"Society isn’t going to collapse from a few hours of leisure. You still sleep at night, right?"

"Sigh. I just want to keep working, alright?"

"Becasue it’s comfortable and it lets you feel like you are in control. But, you can’t live your life like this. You have to go out and see the world. That’s the best thing you can do, to truly understand the impact you have, or don’t have."

I rubbed my hands on my face and sighed out, "Fine."

"You’ll go outside?"

"Yes."

"Great! Go get changed. You will look ridiculous walking around in that suit."

With her insistence I changed into nicer street clothes. Then we climbed back up to the underground parking garage. Into the back of a nice blacked out car, then to the elevator to carry us back up to the surface.

As the elevator jerked to start its ascent, I felt my hands shaking. I was nervous. Scared even. But, of what? The outside? People? Or the vulnerability I would feel?

I wasn’t sure, I just knew that I was uncomfortable and shaking. That all of this felt like a bad idea.

Xiu Qing grabbed my hand and said lightly, "It’ll be ok."

Honestly, that didn’t really help. It was sweet, but all it did was make me feel like a bitch.

Why was I so pathetic? Was this who I was?

I don’t remember ever being like this.

I wasn’t feeling better or calmer, I was getting mad. At myself and my fear.

I was still shaking, but now anger had mixed in.

As we reached the surface and I saw the sun again, I was forced to swallow some of my anger. The fear was already creeping back up.

We drove down the mountain and entered the city.

I was surprised to see so many residential highrises. Some of which looked really old and dilapidated. I said without thinking, "I’m surprised that so many buildings look so old. This isn’t how I pictured it."

Xue Qing didn’t look surprised, she said, "You’re probably thinking of Shanghai or Qingdao. Hong Kong is a city on the sea, so the sea breeze ages things faster than you would think. Plus, you can’t really take down and rebuild the buildings when they are filled with people.

Since Xia has such a large population we have to house, by the time we build a new residential building it already has new tenets. Plus the older generation isn’t going to want to move out of their homes just because the outside looks a little rough."

After thinking for a moment I said, "You’re right. I don’t think I have ever seen a seaside town and not thought it looks a little rough. The sea breeze really does corrode things. I never realized how much.

Also if a building has been around for a few decades withstanding the sea breeze its bound to look old, because it is. It has lasted a few decades and withstood both time and the elements."

"Yep, besides we are going through the older side of the city, the new side looks just like a futuristic city. All glass and steel."

"Hmm. I don’t usually like cities, I’m more of a country person. But, you have me somewhat excited to see it."

"Thats good. We need to see the future we are building."

As we continued driving we left the older part of the city and drove past large parks with beautiful large trees, filled with families and people. They were running around, laughing and having a good time. Picnics were sporadic with families eating and relaxing in the sun.

It made me feel happy that the world still had a place of such profound warmth.

I had spent so much time looking at only the death, destruction, and change the world was undergoing. I had forgotten that such happiness existed.

But here it was, bringing with it a burning lump in my throat and the realization that what I had done had a clear positive effect.
