My Life as an Awoken

While we were walking back to the car Xue Qing said, "Well, that was kind of hot."

I replied, "Lets just hope that he doesn’t do anything stupid."

"Yeah."

Since we had to wait for an answer we decided to get a place to stay. The place we decided on was a private guest house that was attached to an "imperial palace". But the imperial palace was a tourist attraction that had a vast garden of lotus.

I’m not clear on the history or significance, or if it even has any. It might just be something built later to draw people to the area.

Either way we rented out the entire guest house. The guest house was a large residence with a large private garden in the courtyard.

The garden had a winding stream and covered walkway that resembled two snakes coiled together. The pavilions create a scenic point of stability adding depth and structure to the free flowing nature.

It is a masterful garden that allows its guests to relax and enjoy a peaceful environment.

The room we chose was the Deluxe Suite. Personally I liked the guest room with 4 person occupancy, but it had two bed rooms and we have a lot of body guards to get rooms for.

I could let them sleep on the ground because I liked the hot spring in that room the best.

Our room had a living room with a mini bar, a bedroom with a king sized bed, a private bathroom with a shower, an indoor hot spring, and an outdoor hot spring.

The only thing I was really peeved about was that the living room didn’t have a TV and the bedroom had a projector.

I had a mini projector as a kid and it seemed great but you can only watch stuff at night or take your comforter and hang it up like curtains because the light comes through the blinds.

We’re lucky that the curtains here are thick.

But, we can watch plenty of TV back in the bunker. Right now is a good opportunity to enjoy some nature.

With summer coming to an end the heat has broken which has allowed a pleasant temperature to settle into the courtyard.

The afternoon sun provided a calming lazy hue. It all came together to create an environment of pure relaxation.

I looked at Xue Qing sitting next to me and said, "This is nice. We should build something like this ourselves."

"It would be nice. But hard to defend."

"Yeah. My thought was to build walls and cover them with all kinds of defenses. Like sensors, artillery, anti-air, and missile interception systems. I have always been a fan of base builder games."

"It definitely sounds interesting. But let’s wait and see what happens with abilities first. We can always decide after that."

"Yeah... some abilities have me kind of worried."

"Which ones specifically?"

"The ones that have been changing people’s race."

"Ahh. The beastkin people, werewolves, elves, dwarves, and vampires."

"Especially the vampires. They are the only ones that really have the ability to multiply."

"What I think is interesting is that it might be a hereditary ability that can be passed on to later generations."

"I think it’s interesting that there are different kinds of the same ability. You can have different kinds of werewolves, vampires, elves, and everything else. Despite being from the same "race" there are clear differences.

Like a werewolf can transform in the well known sense, the half man half wolf style. But, they can also transform into the full wolf form. One person can only transform into one form or the other. Which shows that there are differences."

"Yeah, it really makes you wonder what would happen if one from each type had a child together. What would happen?"

"It definitely is an interesting question. Since there is always the option that the ability isn’t hereditary. Since we know that abilities are more linked to consciousness than genes. Though kids do tend to grow up like their parents."

"With so many abilities it’s going to take generations to find out if there is any hereditary ability. We know that some families all awoke, while most only one person in a family did. We really need to look into the genetics of people with abilities to see if we can find anything."

"Yeah. But, we are thinking too much. I want to enjoy the fresh air for a while. The bunker gets a bit stuffy. But, there isn’t much you can do about that."

We continued to enjoy the evening breeze until the sun set and the chill started to sneak in with the wind.

We went inside, got dinner and then retired to our room. After having shared a room for months it had gotten comfortable. It would feel much more foreign without her presence in the room.

I took a quick shower and put on the provided black swimsuit for the hot spring. I wanted to try out the outside hot spring. The hot spring was right under a willow tree. The lanterns shone on the dangling branches of the willow and the surrounding bamboo.

The steam added a mist that lingered around the area, trapped in the willows branches.

I walked across the smooth stones to the springs edge and dipped into the water. It was warm, a bit too warm. So, I turned on the cold water to lower the temperature a bit. As the water cooled and I was able to sink into the water, I felt my body relaxing.

My body which had only just started loosening tensed back up. Xue Qing had come outside also wearing a black swimsuit. The difference between us was that my swimsuit fit me well enough while her’s clearly didn’t.

She always had a body that personified lust, but in a swimsuit that left little to imagination. It made my blood pressure rise. I could feel it pounding in my head, as it rushed to other parts of my body.

I could only close my eyes with furrowed brows and lean my head back.
