Chapter 262: Chapter 261: Stage Reward
"You... you won’t be performing any more strange magic, will you?" Village Chief Reed’s eyes were filled with wariness.
"Of course not. Please, rest assured. We’re different from the last guy."
Zelir promised earnestly.
"We’re here this time to investigate the cause of the accident and assess the damages. After all, it’s caused you so much trouble; the Mage’s Guild won’t just ignore it."
At Zelir’s words, Village Chief Reed’s expression finally softened.
"Alright. As long as you’re not here to cause more destruction."
"Can you take us to the scene of the accident?" Mage Haddley asked.
"Follow me." Village Chief Reed turned and led the way.
The three of them walked through the village, heading east along the only main road.
"By the way, Village Chief Reed, what about the Mage who was living here before?"
Zelir asked. "Did he get away?"
"Get away?"
Village Chief Reed snorted coldly. "He’s dead!"
"Dead?"
A chill went down Zelir’s spine at the response.
"You... killed him with pitchforks?"
’This just got a lot more complicated.’
Zelir subconsciously rested a hand on his Magic Wand.
Even if a Mage from the Fantasy Faction had caused destruction, for him to be lynched by the villagers... well, that changed the nature of the situation entirely.
Zelir was suddenly reminded of that Fantasy Faction Mage who had turned a town’s farmland into a saline wasteland. According to Bev, he too had been beheaded, his head hung from the city wall.
’But that was presumably a sentence handed down after a trial, right?’
"Sigh..."
Village Chief Reed sighed. "He managed to get himself killed... You’ll understand the details once you see it."
The three of them passed through most of the village, all the way to the far end.
After passing the last fence, their view suddenly opened up.
Upon seeing the scene before them, it wasn’t just Zelir; even Mage Haddley’s eyes widened in astonishment.
This place had originally been Kenta Village’s most spacious threshing ground, surrounded by several small mills used for storing grain and housing livestock.
But now, nothing was left.
No... one couldn’t say *nothing* was left.
In the center of the open space, there was an indescribable, twisted mass. It was as if everything had been squished together like modeling clay.
Hard stones, like candy softened by heat, were stretched into long strips that defied common sense.
The thick wooden beams that had supported the houses were now twisted into knots, and all sorts of tools and materials were embedded within.
The most chilling sight of all was the livestock that had originally been kept here.
They too had been melded into this bizarre amalgam. Chunks of flesh were embedded in the surface of wood grain, and many bricks and stones had been forcibly mortared into the bodies of cows.
The entire scene looked as if an elaborately sculpted clay castle had been crudely squashed together.
Reality itself was distorted.
Various elements were jumbled together, looking utterly bizarre.
The two were so shocked they didn’t know what to say. After a long while, they both blurted out in unison.
"My God..."
Zelir had seen Instructor Marvin cast a Gravity Singularity, but that merely used gravity to pull surrounding objects toward it.
But this Magic... it was more like it had forcibly reorganized everything in the area, then haphazardly melded it all together.
’This... What in the world is this Magic?’
’How could it possibly have such an effect?’
Just as Zelir was reeling in astonishment, Technique Celestial Calculation activated on its own.
An extremely bizarre Spell Structure appeared in his mind, its Rune Circuits unlike any Magic Zelir had ever known.
They weren’t closed loops, they were unbalanced, and they were filled with dangerous jumps and breaks.
Even the complex Flame Thunder Spear wasn’t one-ten-thousandth as intricate.
This Spell Structure slowly materialized in his mind, then linked with another Spell Structure hidden deep in his memory.
This was the Spell Structure Zelir had comprehended from the parchment tucked inside the Elf Ancient Texts.
It was also the Spell Structure that had initially pushed forward his analysis of the Great Creation Skill.
At this moment, the two sets of Rune Circuits actually began to fuse on their own.
The once obscure and incomprehensible lines realigned and extended, ultimately forming an even more profound three-dimensional model.
A line of ethereal, light blue text appeared before Zelir.
[Great Creation Skill, Analysis Progress—5%]
Zelir’s heart leaped in surprise.
’It... it increased again?’
Immediately after, a few more lines of text appeared.
[Great Creation Skill analysis progress has reached 5%. Milestone reward unlocked.]
[You have gained a preliminary understanding of the miracle "World Shaping."
After each level up, you will permanently gain two additional distributable attribute points.]
’What the... hell?’
For a moment, Zelir couldn’t quite believe it.
’There’s an extra reward for reaching 5% progress on the Great Creation Skill?’
’And it’s a permanent increase to my distributable attribute points upon leveling up!’
’This is too ridiculous.’
’Granted, it’s only two extra attribute points per level, which is a bit less than the five points provided by the Magic Contract.’
’But these can be allocated freely, without any restrictions. I can improve whatever I want.’
’What’s more, attribute points gained from leveling up can trigger strong correlation mechanics or the Magic Contract.’
’If I were to level up twice, I would have four extra attribute points.’
’By allocating these four extra attribute points to Spirit, I could trigger the synergy with the Magic Contract and increase my Strength and Agility Body by another point.’
’I could also allocate them to Intelligence, which would also increase my Charm, or to Perception, which I haven’t had much chance to add points to before.’
’In any case, I have a lot more flexibility in how I use my attribute points after leveling up now.’
’Sigh...’
Thinking of this, Zelir felt so much regret he could have kicked himself.
’I’m already Level Twenty-Six. Just think of how many extra attribute points I’ve missed out on.’
’If only there were a compensation mechanism to make up for the two points I missed for each previous level.’
’I might have even been able to break through to Middle Level Mage all at once.’
"This is too terrifying..."
Mage Haddley slowly paced forward, her eyes filled with shock.
She had originally assumed this magical accident was an explosion or something of the sort, but now it seemed the situation was far beyond her imagination.
’Was it a Magic that manipulates gravity?’
’But that doesn’t seem right, either...’
’Gravity-manipulating Magic doesn’t tear objects apart only to piece them back together...’
This was more like the work of a mischievous god.
A god who felt the scenery here was too monotonous, so they stretched out a finger and took the stone mill, the red-brick wall, the soil, the straw, and even the living creatures.
...and forcibly kneaded all these Elements together like wet, soft dough, stirring them into a mixture where nothing was distinguishable from anything else.
As Zelir’s gaze swept over the scene, he suddenly understood why this Magic was related to the Great Creation Skill.
This method of splitting and tearing things apart, only to forcibly meld them back together... although it looked bizarre and twisted now.
’But what if it were scaled up to the size of the entire world?’
As soon as that image appeared in his mind, Zelir couldn’t help but tremble slightly.
’Wouldn’t that be the very scene of the Creator God destroying the old world and creating the new one?’
