Chapter 381: Chapter 184: Position
Not long after, Qin Fang descended from the sky and arrived at the Guiyuan Main Hall.
"Greetings, Senior Brother Qin."
"Greetings, Senior Brother Lin Yuan."
On the plaza in front of the main hall, many Inner Sect Disciples were cultivating. Upon seeing Qin Fang, they rose to pay their respects.
Qin Fang gave a slight nod, his gaze sweeping across the plaza. He soon spotted Wen Suxin, who was also there, guiding Inner Sect Disciples in their cultivation.
"Senior Sister."
Qin Fang cupped his fists in salute.
"Junior Brother, you’ve arrived? Master is in the main hall. Come with me."
A faint smile touched Wen Suxin’s lips. After a slight nod, she led Qin Fang into the main hall.
Inside the main hall, Fan Zhengchu was sitting in meditation. He opened his eyes when he heard them enter.
"Greetings, Martial Uncle."
Qin Fang greeted him with cupped fists.
"Linyuan, you’ve come?"
Fan Zhengchu nodded slightly, gesturing with his right hand. "Sit. Let’s talk."
There were many cushions nearby. After a nod of thanks, Qin Fang found one close by and sat down.
Fan Zhengchu paused in thought for a moment before speaking. "In three more days, it will be three months since you joined the Sect. As is tradition, you must now take on a position here. I’ve called you today to discuss this very matter."
Qin Fang nodded. Wen Suxin had already told him about this in her message.
"You are the Hall Master’s True Inheritance of our Guiyuan Lineage, a special status indeed. Therefore, the positions available to you are also out of the ordinary. Your Master has selected a few options, and you may choose one."
Qin Fang’s expression grew solemn upon hearing this. "Yes," he replied respectfully.
Fan Zhengchu nodded slightly and began his explanation.
"The first option is to serve as a Scripture Lecturer at the Tempering Martial Hall."
"You have exceptional Talent, and your comprehension of Root Skill and Leaf Skill cultivation is astonishing. You mastered the basics of the Root Skill and Leaf Skill in just a few days... The position of Scripture Lecturer would therefore be a good fit. It would require you to hold regular lectures at the Tempering Martial Hall, teaching Inner Sect Disciples the fundamentals of True Essence Realm cultivation, the principles behind common Leaf Skills, and even sharing your own insights... You would have to give a public lecture at least once a month and answer questions from the disciples."
Elder Fan Zhengchu paused briefly before continuing, "You chose three Leaf Skills: Mirror Flower Water Moon, Nine-Layered Abyss Water Armor, and Celestial River Reversal. Quite a few of the Inner Sect’s True Essence Disciples have chosen these three... but very few ever master them. If you were to teach a course, I imagine many would be willing to attend. It really does suit you."
"Furthermore, the position of Scripture Lecturer is a prestigious one. It would help you consolidate your own cultivation foundation and organize your knowledge. You could also build your reputation and easily establish credibility among your peers and juniors... The time commitment is also flexible, requiring only one lecture a month. The downside, however... is that it comes with very little real authority."
Qin Fang nodded slightly at his words...
’...The Tempering Martial Hall... It was true that many disciples and Elders from the Guiyuan Lineage chose to serve there.’
"The second option is to go to the Miscellaneous Affairs Hall and serve as the Vice Envoy of Resource Inspection."
Fan Zhengchu continued calmly, "You would help oversee the intake, allocation, and use of some of the Sect’s internal resources, ensuring all procedures are followed and preventing corruption and waste... This requires regular inspections of storehouses, auditing of ledgers, and submission of reports."
"This position of Vice Inspector would give you direct exposure to the Sect’s operations and an understanding of its resource flow. It also comes with a degree of real authority... However, your time may not be your own. You’ll have to deal with trivial matters and may get entangled in interpersonal disputes."
A thoughtful look appeared in Qin Fang’s eyes as he nodded again.
"The third option is to join the Mountain Patrol Department as a Commanding Wind Patrol Envoy."
"Your duty would be to lead a small team of Inner Sect Disciples on regular patrols around some of the Sect’s mountain ranges, Spirit Fields, and the outer perimeter of its mines. You would be responsible for watching for any movements from Exotic Species, investigating potential safety hazards, and handling low-level incidents... such as squabbles between disciples or minor natural disasters."
"The upside is that you’d have some real authority and gain exposure to actual combat, which would help you develop your on-the-spot decision-making and crisis management skills. But it requires you to leave the core of the Sect, so there is a certain level of risk... However, the contribution point rewards are relatively high, and you have the opportunity to acquire extra spoils."
Qin Fang nodded once more.
"The fourth option is to go to the Scripture Pavilion and serve as a Steward for the first two floors."
"You would be stationed on the first and second floors of the Scripture Pavilion, responsible for the routine upkeep of the texts, maintaining order, and answering disciples’ basic questions about the collections on those floors..."
"The advantage is that you’ll have access to a vast number of foundational texts, which will help broaden your knowledge and solidify your foundation. You’ll also gain a more comprehensive understanding of the Path of the Six Meridians. The downside, however, is the same as the Scripture Lecturer position... no real authority."
Fan Zhengchu paused before concluding, "These are the positions most suited for you at present. They involve the lower echelons of the Sect but each has a different focus... After all, your Cultivation is still low. Taking on a high-ranking post would do you no good. Your Master’s wish is for you to choose based on your temperament and current needs... Ponder it carefully."
Hearing this, Qin Fang let out a soft breath, gave a slight nod, and fell into deep thought.
’It was clear his Master had put a lot of thought into these four options.’
’He also likely intended to use this to observe my true nature.’
’These four positions had different focuses. My choice would likely reveal my future intentions.’
’The Scripture Lecturer, for instance, focused on imparting knowledge, organizing what one has learned, and accumulating personal prestige.’
’Someone who chose this would likely be a mentor type, someone who enjoys sharing and consolidating knowledge, and who values the stability and legacy of their own Cultivation...’
’They would have little interest in interpersonal power struggles, instead pursuing a life of quiet cultivation and a respected status.’
’The Vice Envoy of Resource Inspection, on the other hand, was clearly more focused on practical management, rule enforcement, and internal oversight.’
’A person who chose this role would have to be pragmatic, meticulous, and perhaps even have an inclination toward holding power.’
’They’d be willing to delve into the Sect’s actual operations, unafraid of trivialities and navigating interpersonal politics... They would have the makings of a practical administrator.’
’Then there was the Commanding Wind Patrol Envoy, which emphasized practical combat experience, team leadership, and crisis response in the field.’
