"Elder Chen, your disciple killed my only son! Surely the Main Courtyard can’t be this unreasonable!?"
Chen Xuanfeng turned to Ye Zhiqiu. "What’s going on?"
Ye Zhiqiu quickly recounted the events that transpired in the Black Wind Abyss, then had Liang Cheng present Li Feng’s token, the Yin Marrow Pearl, and the identity tokens from the Treasure Pavilion members as evidence.
Liang Cheng added, "Li Feng tried to steal the Yin Marrow Pearl and ambushed me. In the end, I turned the tables and killed him."
"Qian Wanjing of the Treasure Pavilion sent men to kill me. Fortunately, Third Senior Brother was secretly protecting me, and we were able to kill all of his people. This is the proof."
Li Kuangtao snatched Li Feng’s token, his eyes growing redder as he snarled, "Nonsense! My son was an upright and honorable man. How could he possibly ambush someone?"
"You must have been overcome with greed at the sight of the treasure and killed him for it! As for what happened with the Treasure Pavilion, who’s to say you didn’t just fabricate the whole story!"
Chen Xuanfeng pointed at the Treasure Pavilion Copper Token. "Patriarch Li, a Treasure Pavilion token can’t be faked. But you, on the other hand, barge into the Main Courtyard without getting the facts straight, and you just tried to kill my disciple. Do you really think I won’t kill you?"
Li Kuangtao’s breath caught, his face twisting in an ugly expression. "Elder Chen, this is all just your side of the story! This little bastard must have framed him!"
Chen Xuanfeng’s face grew grim.
"Who did you call a little bastard?"
The pressure on Li Kuangtao suddenly intensified.
Just then, a long laugh echoed from outside the Foreign Affairs Hall.
"Brother Li, why the anger? The truth of the matter will be known with a simple inquiry."
Qian Wanjing strolled in with Elder Ye, his face wearing its usual amiable smile.
He first cupped his fist to Chen Xuanfeng. "Elder Chen, perhaps there’s been a misunderstanding."
He then looked at Li Kuangtao and sighed, "Brother Li, my condolences. However, regarding the matter of your son, the Treasure Pavilion has indeed found some clues."
He looked toward Elder Ye. "This man was also a witness. How about we let him recount what happened?"
Elder Ye began to speak, "A few days ago, I was leading the Medicine Collection Team to look for herbs near the Black Wind Abyss. We happened to see Young Master Li in a fierce battle with a Mountain-Devouring Ghost Ape. He eventually slew the Ghost Ape and obtained the Yin Marrow Pearl."
"But then..."
"Liang Cheng from your esteemed courtyard appeared and ambushed Young Master Li, killing him to steal his treasure. Because we witnessed this, Liang Cheng and Ye Zhiqiu mercilessly attacked us. I was the only one who made it back alive."
Hearing this, Li Kuangtao’s aura flared even more powerfully. "Elder Chen, what do you have to say to that?"
A cold glint appeared in Chen Xuanfeng’s eyes.
Liang Cheng understood everything perfectly. ’Qian Wanjing is trying to clear the Treasure Pavilion’s name and use the Li Family to get rid of me.’
’What a vicious scheme!’
At that moment, Ye Zhiqiu suddenly smiled at Elder Ye. "Are you certain everything you’ve said is the truth?"
Elder Ye’s heart trembled. He glanced at Qian Wanjing out of the corner of his eye. Qian Wanjing gave a slight nod, so he braced himself and said, "Everything I said is the absolute truth, without a single lie."
"That’s good."
Ye Zhiqiu looked at Chen Xuanfeng.
"Master, you asked me to follow my little junior brother and record his performance on this mission. Everything that happened along the way is right here on this Memory Order."
Upon hearing this, the faces of Qian Wanjing and Elder Ye changed drastically. They never would have expected such a twist. To think that Chen Xuanfeng would use such a precious Memory Order just to watch over Liang Cheng.
This was the Canglan Island Main Courtyard, not the Three Sects and Six Gates. Such a magical artifact was extremely rare here.
At this point, Chen Xuanfeng’s calm demeanor returned. His previous anger was gone, and he simply nodded leisurely, completely unhurried.
’The old fox, he was just acting!’
"Everyone, let’s see what the Memory Order recorded, shall we?"
Li Kuangtao frowned but didn’t voice any objections.
Chen Xuanfeng took the Memory Order from Ye Zhiqiu. The token was no bigger than his palm, pearly white all over, and was currently emitting a soft halo of light.
He didn’t activate it immediately. Instead, his gaze swept calmly over Qian Wanjing and Elder Ye, before finally landing on Li Kuangtao’s face.
"Patriarch Li, would you like to have your family’s ancestor activate the images in the Memory Order, to ensure impartiality?"
Li Kuangtao glanced behind him. Seeing that the ancestor hadn’t opened his eyes, he simply shook his head.
Chen Xuanfeng no longer hesitated and directly activated the Memory Order.
HUMMM—
The token flared with brilliant light, and a screen of light unfolded from above it, hovering in the middle of the Foreign Affairs Hall.
The scene displayed on the screen was none other than the Black Wind Abyss Valley!
Li Kuangtao stared intently at the light screen. When he saw Li Feng launch the first sneak attack, his clenched fist trembled slightly and then finally went limp.
When the light screen slowly dissipated, a dead silence fell over the Foreign Affairs Hall.
The withered old man in the sedan chair behind Li Kuangtao had, at some unknown point, slowly opened his murky eyes. His gaze was like a knife, stabbing toward Qian Wanjing.
The smile on Qian Wanjing’s face had long since frozen, and beads of cold sweat appeared on his temples.
Elder Ye’s face was ashen, and his legs grew weak.
"Chief Steward Qian."
Chen Xuanfeng’s voice was calm, yet it carried the oppressive feeling of an impending storm. "Why did your Treasure Pavilion’s Medicine Collection Team try to kill a disciple of the Main Courtyard? This Elder Ye just said you were witnesses—"
He paused, then said, word by word, "Then why, in the Memory Order, are you the ones besieging my disciple, Liang Cheng?"
Qian Wanjing opened his mouth, but his throat was dry, and for a moment, he was speechless.
Li Kuangtao spun around, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Qian Wanjing. "Qian Wanjing, you sent me a message yesterday, wanting to use my son’s death to set a trap for someone?!"
"Brother Li, this is a misunderstanding..."
Qian Wanjing said with a forced laugh.
"A misunderstanding?"
Li Kuangtao laughed in fury. "The Memory Order made it perfectly clear! You wanted to make my Li Family the scapegoat and kill Liang Cheng for you?!"
"Brother Li, calm your anger! This is a matter of my Treasure Pavilion’s lax discipline. This Elder Ye acted on his own; it has nothing to do with the Treasure Pavilion! I will punish him severely and give both you, Brother Li, and the Main Courtyard a proper explanation!"
Qian Wanjing’s face was deathly pale. Suddenly, a vicious glint flashed in his eyes. Before anyone could react, he spun around and slammed a palm onto the crown of Elder Ye’s head.
"You old dog! How dare you act on your own behind the Treasure Pavilion’s back and even try to assassinate a high-achieving disciple of the Main Courtyard?!"
Elder Ye turned his head in astonishment, a gurgling sound rattling in his throat. Blood poured from his seven orifices, and he died on the spot.
Qian Wanjing immediately dropped to his knees with a THUD and kowtowed repeatedly to Chen Xuanfeng and Li Kuangtao, his forehead bleeding.
"Elder Chen! Patriarch Li! It is I, Qian Wanjing, who was derelict in my duty, allowing this old dog to deceive me! Today, I have cleaned up my own house. I beg you both to give the Treasure Pavilion—and me—a chance to atone!"
Just then, Yun Yizhou, the Pavilion Master of the Treasure Pavilion’s Four Islands Alliance Sub-Branch, appeared, walking slowly.
"Qian Wanjing, you deserve to die. Your poor management of subordinates has caused this disaster. From this day forward, you are demoted to Vice Chief Steward, and your salary will be docked for three years."
Then, before anyone could react, Yun Yizhou slapped Qian Wanjing across the face, leaving it swollen and red.
Chen Xuanfeng watched coldly from the sidelines. Li Kuangtao’s brow was tightly furrowed. The withered old man in the sedan chair suddenly spoke, his voice as hoarse as a broken gong, "Enough."
All eyes turned to the old man as he slowly sat up straight. "Elder Chen, with the Memory Order as proof, my grandson Li Feng’s death was indeed his own fault. His skills were inferior, and he did not die unjustly."
He paused. "Today, my Li Family came to the Main Courtyard to demand justice. For our presumptuousness, I, this old man, apologize on behalf of the Li Family. In the coming days, the Li Family will provide one Gang Condensing Pill as compensation."
Chen Xuanfeng was stunned to hear this, and an uproar went through the crowd.
A Gang Condensing Pill!
No wonder Li Feng wanted the Yin Marrow Pearl so badly. He must have wanted to use it to neutralize the medicinal power of the Gang Condensing Pill, allowing him to break through to the True Essence Late Stage Realm.
"We take our leave!"
As soon as the words fell, Li Kuangtao could only follow behind the ancestor, preparing to leave the Main Courtyard. At that moment, Yun Yizhou stepped forward.
"Venerable Ancestor of the Li Family, please wait. The Treasure Pavilion will pay for the Gang Condensing Pill this time, as a token of our apology for our oversight."
He then turned to Chen Xuanfeng. "The Treasure Pavilion will add another Gang Condensing Pill as an apology to the Main Courtyard. Additionally, Qian Wanjing’s docked salary for three years will also be given to Liang Cheng as compensation."
Hearing this, the Li Family Ancestor snorted coldly and left.
Yun Yizhou’s expression remained unchanged. Chen Xuanfeng glanced at Liang Cheng, then nodded and said, "Very well! Pavilion Master Yun, take care. I won’t see you out."
Only then did Yun Yizhou cup his fist. Qian Wanjing followed behind, carrying Elder Ye’s corpse.
And so, the matter was finally settled.
Afterwards, Liang Cheng obediently followed Chen Xuanfeng back to the Instructor Hall.
"Liang Cheng, do you blame me for taking matters into my own hands and letting the Treasure Pavilion off the hook?"
Liang Cheng shook his head.
"I wouldn’t dare."
