My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building
Chapter 247: Refusing to Save the DyingDecades ago, the Chu Family had suffered a devastating blow and was nearly wiped out.
But after decades of recuperation, they had actually recovered much of their strength.
Although Chu Yunfei had made significant contributions to the Chu Family, his death was met with a rather calm reaction from many family members. After all, many had died back then.
Everyone had grown somewhat desensitized to matters of life and death.
Soon, they arrived near Chu Yunfei’s home.
In the Chu Family, every household had a small, plaza-like open space in front for cultivation.
After all, how could a Martial Arts Clan call itself such if its members didn’t practice cultivation?
At Chu Yunfei’s home, very few people had come, making the atmosphere feel rather desolate.
Inside the memorial hall, a single young woman was kneeling.
When she saw Chu Feng’s fourth uncle walk in, she called out, "Fourth Uncle."
"Yes. Qingqing, let me introduce you. This is Chu Yuntian. You may not have met him, but you should have heard of him," said Chu Feng’s fourth uncle.
"This is my uncle?" Chu Qingqing asked, a little surprised, after seeing Chu Yuntian.
In fact, even without Chu Feng’s fourth uncle’s introduction, Chu Qingqing would have been able to tell. The two brothers, Chu Yuntian and Chu Yunfei, looked very much alike.
"You’re Qingqing?" Chu Yuntian became emotional the moment he saw Chu Qingqing, his eyes turning red.
"Uncle, it’s me. I’m Qingqing. Dad... as he was taking his last breath, he was still calling your name, saying he regretted not being able to see you one last time," Chu Qingqing said, her eyes blurred with tears.
This woman was Chu Feng’s older cousin.
She looked to be in her early thirties, not much older than Chu Feng.
"Qingqing, your uncle is late." After speaking, Chu Yuntian threw himself onto Chu Yunfei’s coffin, tears streaming down his aged face.
"Brother! We haven’t seen each other in decades, and now this parting is forever..." A wail rose as Chu Yuntian wept bitterly.
Beside them, Chu Feng’s mother was also wiping her tears, sobbing in sorrow.
After he finished crying, Chu Yuntian asked, "My brother... how did he die?"
"He died of poison. Decades ago, he was poisoned by the Tang Family. There’s been no cure all these years, only suppression. A while ago, he couldn’t suppress it any longer, so..." Chu Feng’s fourth uncle explained.
"Didn’t you try to find someone, to find an antidote? The Medicine King Hall should be able to cure the poison, right?" Chu Yuntian asked.
"Sigh... our status is too low. How could we possibly get help from the people of the Medicine King Hall?" Chu Qingqing said with a sigh.
Hearing this, everyone felt helpless. There was nothing they could do.
"Oh, right. Qingqing, these are your two younger cousins, Chu Feng and Chu Hao. And this is your cousin Chu Feng’s wife, Su Miaoke," Chu Yuntian introduced at that moment.
"Why didn’t you ask them?" Chu Feng turned to his fourth uncle, his eyes blazing with fury.
’If these people had just been willing to ask the Medicine King Hall for help, even if they couldn’t completely eradicate the poison, as long as they could have kept him alive, I would have had a way to cure him.’
’But now, I am completely powerless. After all, I’m not an Immortal; I can’t bring the dead back to life.’
"Well... there was nothing we could do. The people from the Medicine King Hall have always been difficult to hire. Plus, with the Chu Family having suffered such a major blow..." Chu Feng’s fourth uncle said with an awkward and bitter expression.
"Hah! From what I’ve heard, the Chu Family has a good relationship with the Medicine King Hall. What? You couldn’t even ask them to show up and save one person? And what’s more, my uncle was injured for the sake of the Chu Family!" Chu Feng rebuked.
"I see how it is. You probably thought that even if my uncle was cured, he’d be a cripple. He wouldn’t be of much use to the family, so you didn’t even bother asking for help!" Chu Feng glared at his so-called fourth uncle.
"How can you say that? Are you implying the Chu Family just stands by and watches its own die?" At this, some other Chu Family members nearby became displeased.
"What? Am I not speaking the truth? You did it, but you don’t dare admit it?" Chu Feng shot the man a glance and demanded angrily.
"You ignorant brat, how dare you spout such nonsense here! Do you have any idea what kind of price we would have to pay to get someone from the Medicine King Hall to act just once? Who do you think you are? You’re just from a side branch, yet you dare speak so arrogantly. Watch out, or you’ll be dealt with by clan law!" an old man shouted at Chu Feng as he walked in.
"I am not a member of your Chu Family! What? Just because the price was high, you just watched my uncle suffer from poison for decades? He was poisoned saving the Chu Family! He was poisoned fighting for the Chu Family!" Chu Feng roared.
He never imagined this so-called Chu Family could be so cold-hearted. It infuriated him.
He already had a poor impression of this so-called Chu Family. If he hadn’t known he had an uncle who had just passed away, Chu Feng would never have come here, not even if it killed him.
"You little bastard! You dare defy me? Are you trying to rebel?" The old man was so angry he was practically jumping up and down.
"If it weren’t for your age, I would’ve kicked you out of here long ago. Get lost. I don’t even know you. Fourth Uncle, I want to see what kind of explanation you all have for this!" Chu Feng demanded.
"Chu Feng, calm down. This isn’t quite what you think. Back then, in our fight against the Qing Gang and the Tang Family, we had already paid an enormous price. Trying to get help from the Medicine King Hall on top of that was extremely, extremely difficult," Chu Feng’s fourth uncle said with a helpless expression.
"Just because it was ’difficult,’ you watched my uncle suffer from poison for decades? Watched him die? Was he poisoned because of something he did for himself? Hah! Now I understand why the Chu Family has fallen to this state. With a family like this, it would be a miracle if you didn’t decline!"
"You can’t even protect someone who fought to the death for the family, yet you have the gall to call yourselves a Martial Arts Clan with a legacy of several hundred years? Aren’t you ashamed to even say that out loud!" Chu Feng said bluntly.
He felt not a shred of fear towards them. If it came down to it, he’d just fight.
Although he was still in the Foundation Establishment Realm, he could have become a Core Formation Realm Cultivator long ago if he had wanted to. As things stood, there was basically no one who was his match.
After all, in this era, Cultivators who could reach the Foundation Establishment Realm were already exceedingly rare, let alone Core Formation.
Even if the Chu Family had such a figure, they probably wouldn’t step forward to intervene so easily at a time like this.
Of course, if the Chu Family really did have someone like that, why would they need to remain in seclusion?
"You are too insolent!" someone shouted angrily, unable to stand Chu Feng’s attitude.
"Hah, I’m insolent? You want to see what insolent really looks like?" Chu Feng swept a cold gaze over them, already prepared for a fight.
"Stop arguing, everyone! We’re all family, there’s no need to fight!" said Chu Feng’s fourth uncle.
