My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building
Chapter 29: Working as a Security Guard"That’s right. There’s still some handover paperwork to finish. It’ll be fine once that’s done," Su Miaoke said.
"Alright then, I’ll take you to the office first," Chu Feng said.
"What about you? Where are you planning to work?" Su Miaoke asked.
Chu Feng sighed and shook his head. "I don’t know. I’ll have to look around and see."
He hadn’t figured out what he wanted to do. After working in sales for several years, suddenly being jobless left him feeling completely lost.
"What’s there to look for? We’re husband and wife now. Just come to work with me," Su Miaoke said.
"Work with you? Forget it. I graduated from a second-rate university. I don’t know anything and I’m not good at anything. What could I possibly do at your company?" Chu Feng said helplessly.
"My father may be in charge of the company, but I’m still a general manager. How about you be my assistant? You’d just have to serve me tea and deliver some documents," Su Miaoke offered.
"Be your assistant? No way. Not even if you beat me to death. I’m a grown man, and you want me to serve you tea? I’d be so embarrassed if anyone saw me." Chu Feng rejected the offer without a second thought.
The position of an assistant was not that easy. Besides, Chu Feng particularly detested the whole office politics game.
Not to mention, if they really started working together like that, the difference in their status would be too great. Conflict would be inevitable.
"Why not?" Su Miaoke was a little curious that Chu Feng had actually refused.
"I’m not cut out for the corporate world. I’d rather be a security guard than deal with all that office drama. I have a short fuse and tend to offend people easily," Chu Feng said.
"With me around, who would dare mess with you? I’ll fire them on the spot!" Su Miaoke declared domineeringly.
"No. I said no, and I mean it!" Chu Feng refused.
"Then how about being a security guard? I’ll give you twenty thousand a month as spending money. How does that sound?" Su Miaoke asked again.
’This is a great offer!’ Chu Feng’s eyes lit up instantly.
"For real?" Chu Feng asked.
"You’re my husband, what’s there to be ’for real’ about? What’s mine is yours. I’m just getting you a job to keep you within my sight. I’m afraid you’ll go out and fool around!" Su Miaoke’s slender, jade-like hand viciously pinched the flesh on Chu Feng’s waist.
The sudden pain made Chu Feng grimace and suck in his breath.
"Ow! Let go, quick!" Chu Feng cried out.
"I’m warning you. You’d better not be seeing any shady women behind my back, or I’ll have you castrated!" Su Miaoke threatened viciously.
"Hiss... okay, okay! I promise, I definitely won’t," Chu Feng said, forced into submission.
Only after hearing Chu Feng’s words did Su Miaoke finally let go.
Fortunately, Chu Feng had strong concentration, so the car remained steady. Had it been him from the past, it might have ended in a fatal crash.
"But there’s one condition. Our relationship has to be kept secret. Otherwise, everyone will say I’m living off a woman. As a man, I’d have no face," Chu Feng said.
"Fine. As long as you don’t go hooking up with other women, I’ll agree to anything," Su Miaoke agreed without a second thought.
「A few hours later, the two returned to Beihai City.」
After getting back to Beihai, Su Miaoke went to her company to handle the handover and arrange the job for Chu Feng.
「The next morning at 7:30, Chu Feng woke up early.」
It was his first day of work, so he didn’t dare be late. He had to check in, after all, and wanted to make a good first impression.
"Miaoke, time to get up for work," Chu Feng said, patting Su Miaoke’s back.
Su Miaoke glanced at the time on her phone and said impatiently, "Are you crazy? I’m the general manager. I go to work whenever I want. If you want to go, go by yourself. I’m not going."
With that, Su Miaoke pulled the covers over her head and went back to sleep.
There was nothing to be done. The two of them had been too excited last night and stayed up until the middle of the night.
Chu Feng practiced the Qi Cultivation Technique; his body was strong, and his Essence, Qi, and Spirit were in good shape. So even after only a few hours of sleep, he was still full of energy.
So, Chu Feng arrived at the Su Group’s administration department early in the morning to report for duty.
When he arrived at the skyscraper housing the Su Group, Chu Feng’s brows furrowed.
A layer of clouds shrouded the top of the building, looking incredibly dark.
To an ordinary person, it looked like it was about to rain. But in Chu Feng’s eyes, it was completely different. Within the dark clouds, there was a vast, bloody glow.
’This is a bit strange,’ Chu Feng murmured to himself. He didn’t dwell on it; reporting for duty was more important.
"What’re you here for?" a security guard asked bluntly as Chu Feng approached the door to the security office.
"Here to report for duty," Chu Feng replied.
"You’re Chu Feng?" The guard picked up a file from the desk and sized him up.
The guard looked to be in his thirties and had a large, tall frame. Even through his clothes, you could tell he was muscular. ’This guy is either ex-military or a trained fighter,’ Chu Feng thought.
"Yes, that’s me. Sir, where do I need to report now?" Chu Feng asked.
"Hold on, I’ll take you. Xiao Liu, you keep an eye on things," the guard said, walking out of the security office and instructing the young guard who was busy playing a game.
"Let me introduce myself. I’m the security captain here, my name is Liu Yong. The security shifts here are split into two, twelve hours each. A guard just quit yesterday, so you’ll be taking his post today—the night shift, from 8 PM to 8 AM."
"Twelve hours? That’s not too bad," Chu Feng nodded.
For him, that amount of time wasn’t particularly long.
After all, security guards usually didn’t have much to do, so he could use the opportunity for his Cultivation.
Next, Liu Yong had Chu Feng fill out the employment forms, issued him a uniform and an ID badge, and explained some safety procedures and his daily duties.
Once everything was settled, Chu Feng sat in the security office and started chatting with the young guard named Xiao Liu.
"Hi, I’m Chu Feng," he introduced himself.
"Hello, Brother Chu. You can just call me Xiao Liu from now on. You’re older than me. Come, have a seat," Xiao Liu said, still playing his game.
This Xiao Liu was quite friendly, just really into his games.
"Brother Chu, your luck is really something else. We were short-staffed today, and you just happened to show up, so they stuck you on the night shift right away," Xiao Liu said while continuing to play his game.
"What’s wrong? Isn’t the night shift great? Not much happens, and you can even catch some sleep. What’s not to like?" Chu Feng asked, confused.
He didn’t quite understand what Xiao Liu was getting at. ’It sounds like there’s more to what he’s saying,’ he thought.
"Brother Chu, do you know why I said that?" Xiao Liu asked.
Chu Feng shook his head, a look of utter confusion on his face.
"It’s because... this place is haunted at night!" Xiao Liu whispered in Chu Feng’s ear.
