My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister

Chapter 427 - 282: The In-laws Are Coming!?

Jiang Yao grabbed her bag and strode toward the elevators. Chen Yuan, pulled to his feet, had no choice but to quicken his pace to keep up with her. As her skirt fluttered, he found himself watching the bounce of her hair.

’She doesn’t feel like a real girl,’ he thought. ’She’s like a princess who descended from the heavens just for me.’

...

With nothing particular in mind to eat, Chen Yuan and Jiang Yao passed a beef noodle shop. They noticed from the entrance that it was packed with customers, with more people still streaming in.

He caught a whiff of an incredible aroma and decided to keep things simple. They would just get some beef noodles to fill their stomachs for now.

"Boss, we’ll have two bowls of... this signature beef noodle soup."

The two of them stepped inside. After ordering, they headed for a quiet, empty corner where a server had just finished wiping down a greasy table.

"Alrighty. Scallions and cilantro?"

"Extra cilantro in one," Chen Yuan said, then asked Jiang Yao, "What about you?"

"The regular amount is fine for me."

"Okay, the other one regular. No dietary restrictions."

"Your food will be out in five minutes. Please wait patiently."

The person at the front printed out the order slip, stood up to stick it on the pickup window, and then turned to help the next customer.

"Finally, a chance to rest," Chen Yuan said, settling comfortably into his chair. "The more I smell these noodles, the hungrier I get."

"Then you should eat a lot later, Young Master. You worked so hard today. I’m so sorry, I just got carried away and bought too much."

"You should have bought even more today. Who knows when I’ll be able to take you shopping again."

"I already bought enough to make me happy. I’m very satisfied with today."

Jiang Yao took out her compact mirror to check if her makeup had smudged. Closing it, she smiled at Chen Yuan and said in a low voice, "Since you worked so hard to come shopping with me, how about when we get back, I wear the maid outfit I bought at the lingerie store and play video games with you?"

"Hm?" Chen Yuan’s eyebrow shot up. "You have a deal!"

Earlier, while they were clothes shopping, Jiang Yao had seen Chen Yuan stop and stare blankly at a black-and-white, medieval-style maid outfit. She had walked over and asked if he thought it was cute. They were just joking around at first, but then Jiang Yao said that if he dared to buy it, she would dare to wear it when they got back.

Without a second thought, Chen Yuan had the clerk bag it up.

Yaoyao wasn’t just talking big; she really would dare to wear it. The maid outfit was, to be fair, sinfully revealing, but how could it be a ’special treat’ for her boyfriend if it wasn’t a little sinful?

"I remember that maid outfit also came with a hair clip and a cat tail. It was pretty cute. You’ll probably look great in it."

"We’ll talk about that when we get back."

Jiang Yao glanced around shyly, then gave Chen Yuan a sly wink. Afterward, they both looked down, observing a timely moment of silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

Their hearts were already starting to race in anticipation of the evening to come.

A few moments later, the steaming hot beef noodle soup was served.

Jiang Yao rummaged through her small bag for a hair tie, gathering her flowing hair and tying it into a low ponytail to make it easier to eat.

It was only then that Chen Yuan remembered to bring up the piano playing from earlier.

Gripping his chopsticks, he asked with some curiosity:

"When did you learn to play the piano? You seemed pretty good. Why have you never told me before?"

"A girl’s secrets are for you to discover, of course. If I just told you everything outright, how boring would that be? Then I wouldn’t have been able to see that surprised look on your face today."

"Fair point."

"Right?"

"You still haven’t answered my question."

"I’ve known how to play since the sixth grade. I actually studied ballet, too, but I gave up after less than a month."

"I never would have guessed. So, Yaoyao, you’re quite the talented one," Chen Yuan said, swallowing a mouthful of noodles. He was suddenly even more curious about the sisters’ upbringing. "Can Ningning play?"

"Oh, she can’t. And I’m a very good singer. For a while back in school, my mom wanted me to try and make it in the entertainment industry. Luckily, I didn’t."

"Why do you say ’luckily’?"

"Because if I’d become a star, I never would have come to Lanjing, and I never would have met you, my little young master. I’d be a famous singer beloved by everyone in the entertainment world, and the distance between us would be thiiiiis—" Jiang Yao exaggeratedly stretched her hands apart, drawing out the last word, "—far!"

"Wow, so amazing~"

"That praise is so fake. I don’t see a single trace of sincerity in your eyes," Jiang Yao said, pouting her rosy lips slightly.

"That’s because there isn’t any."

The two chatted back and forth. Whether because he was starving or because the beef noodles were just that good, Chen Yuan quickly polished off more than half the food in his bowl.

As evening fell, one couple after another came into the restaurant to eat.

Amid the drifting steam, the two of them, huddled in their corner laughing and talking, looked just like any other ordinary couple in the city—a sight that was simply and profoundly heartwarming.

This peace didn’t last long. Just as he and Jiang Yao were finishing up, his phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket—it was a Green Bubble call from Pei Youwen.

Chen Yuan couldn’t be bothered to step outside to take it, so he simply answered and put the phone to his ear.

"Hey, Chairman Jiang, have you had dinner yet?"

"Just finished. What’s up?" As Chen Yuan spoke, he glanced guiltily at Jiang Yao’s expression. She clearly hadn’t heard, since holding the phone to his ear put it in earpiece mode.

"Are you free on Monday? We need to take a trip to Kyoto together."

"What for?"

"To the corporate headquarters. There’s a meeting like this every year. And didn’t President Jiang also arrange to have the Bauhinia Company shares transferred to your name? We can take this opportunity to sign the contract. He just assigned this to me."

"I have class on Monday. Why the rush?"

"Since when do the higher-ups care if we’re free? I’ve already requested time off and found someone to cover my work temporarily. You should probably request a day off, too."

"...Let me think."

Chen Yuan mulled it over for a few seconds. Jiang Zhengfeng had indeed arranged it, but he hadn’t expected it to be so soon. And then there was this damn meeting at headquarters—he’d never even been to the Jiang Corporation headquarters before.

"Alright, fine. I’ll have to take the day off," he replied.

But there was no response from Pei Youwen’s end.

Chen Yuan pulled the phone away from his ear, confused, thinking the other party had hung up. At the top of the screen, the words "Poor Connection" were displayed.

The next second, his phone began to ring with an incoming call.

The caller ID read "Mom."

Chen Yuan’s eyebrows shot up high.

He had no idea why his mom was suddenly calling him at this hour. Just seeing her name made his heart jump, and a vague, bad feeling crept over him.

Jiang Yao saw his strange expression and mouthed, "What’s wrong?"

"My mom’s calling unexpectedly."

"Well, you should answer it."

Jiang Yao had overheard Chen Yuan on the phone with his mother before, but only once. And that time, it seemed they had argued over something specific.

She thought for a moment, and her movements as she ate became cautious.

Her impression of Chen Yuan’s mother was that she was a very strict person, at least when it came to managing Chen Yuan. She was afraid of, or rather, stood in awe of, that type of parent.

So now, she felt a little guilty herself.

After all, she was the one who had spirited Chen Yuan away.

While Jiang Yao was lost in all sorts of wild thoughts, Chen Yuan had already answered the call and was asking his mom what was up.

His tone was audibly weaker now.

No matter what his status was out in the world, in front of Liu He, he had to be on his best behavior. Her authority over him was no joke.

Chen Yuan was already explaining himself: "Of course it’s not that you shouldn’t call unless something’s wrong. I didn’t mean that at all, Mom. You can call whenever you want. It’s just that you usually text me, so I was just asking."

His mouth twitched.

Across the table, Jiang Yao was already snickering.

"I’m eating with a friend. At some mall in Lanjing... I forgot which one. School got out since it’s Friday, so we bought a few things and decided to just grab dinner here."

Hearing this, Jiang Yao and Chen Yuan exchanged a look.

Using the word "friend" felt more than a little ambiguous for the two of them at this point. It was a cover-up, and they both knew it.

"I won’t be out too late tonight. I’ll head back right after dinner. Yeah, back to that apartment in Lanjing that my dad set up... It’s actually not bad living there. Didn’t I tell you before? It’s pretty close to school."

Chen Yuan lowered his eyes, now able to lie without so much as a blush or a racing heart.

Jiang Yao’s gaze was fixed on him, as if reminding him that good boys don’t lie. Chen Yuan deliberately avoided looking at her.

He just kept talking on the phone.

"What!?" His sudden outburst made Jiang Yao jump. Then, utterly incredulous, Chen Yuan asked, "You and Dad are coming to Lanjing to see me this weekend?"

Jiang Yao’s expression froze.

"Why so suddenly? A signature? What signature... Why did you buy a house? Didn’t we say during the New Year that we’d discuss it later?"

Liu He was likely explaining the reason for the sudden house purchase. Chen Yuan fell silent, listening quietly to the voice on the other end.

His mouth was visibly twitching, as if he couldn’t comprehend what he was hearing.

One phone call after another had brought news that weighed heavily on Chen Yuan’s mind. First, he had to go to Kyoto for a meeting, and now his parents were coming to Lanjing to visit. The next few days were almost completely booked, and he’d even promised to pick up Ningning from the airport.

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were packed solid.

"Alright, fine," Chen Yuan sighed. "That’s all for now. Call me before you arrive, and I’ll come to the station to pick you up."

With that, he hung up the phone.

Jiang Yao blinked, asking anxiously, "What did she say? Are your uncle and auntie really coming?"

"Yeah. She said she booked a high-speed train for the morning after tomorrow. They should arrive at Lanjing Station around ten."

"You didn’t tell them you moved out?"

"And how would I explain that? ’Hey Mom and Dad, I got tricked by you and your sister Ningning, so I moved out in a fit of rage to get away from you’? How am I supposed to say something like that?"

Seeing her young master’s angry face, Jiang Yao felt a pang of guilt and averted her gaze.

She quickly said, "So... do we need to come up with an excuse to fob them off?"

"I don’t think we can fob her off. My mom is probably coming over to see the house my *other* dad bought. I still don’t know if this business about me signing for a new house is real or not. Looks like I have to move back..."

"Moving... that would be nice," Jiang Yao said, taking small sips of her hot soup. Just looking at her expression, it was impossible to tell what she was thinking.

Inwardly, of course, she was secretly overjoyed. She hadn’t even had to exhaust herself trying to persuade Chen Yuan to come back; a "royal edict" had arrived, and now he had to return with his tail between his legs. She and her sister didn’t even need to find a way for him to save face anymore.

This was absolutely fantastic news.

Besides, the gaming room was all set up.

Their relationship was currently in a phase of rapid growth. If Chen Yuan moved back at this point, it would be like pouring gasoline on an already raging fire. In the future, not only could she go find Chen Yuan to hang out at night, but she could also logically use "visiting" as an excuse for what was essentially cohabitation.

Jiang Yao allowed herself a brief fantasy: she’d finish her work just as her little young master got home from school, and they’d spend a relaxing, sweet evening together.

’How is that any different from being married!’

As Jiang Yao got lost in her thoughts, her head sank lower and lower, so much so that she didn’t even hear Chen Yuan call her name.

"Yaoyao? Yaoyao!"

"Huh?" She snapped back to reality.

"I was asking what you think about all this."

"It’s great... Good. Really good, actually."

"So you agree?"

"Agree to what?" A look of pure confusion spread across her face.
