My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 579 - 374: Trip to Tokyo (Part 3)Chen Yuan wasn’t an idiot. He knew perfectly well that if he went over to Jiangg Ning while she was fuming, he would definitely get a nasty punch.
It wasn’t like he hadn’t been hit before.
To be precise, he had clearly experienced the strength of both sisters, and it was truly no joke.
In the future, if anyone ever said girls weren’t strong, he would absolutely be the first to jump up and object.
Whether it was Jiangg Ning or Jiangg Yao, a Deliberate Punch from either of them was enough to make him wince in pain.
"I’m not coming over. And I don’t want to kiss you, either. I already told you it was a misunderstanding. I was just trying to help you change your schedule and accidentally kissed you. In reality, I didn’t want to kiss you at all!" Chen Yuan said with a straight face, not a hint of a blush on his cheeks.
In reality?
In reality, he was talking pure nonsense.
Not only did he want to kiss her, but if they hadn’t been in the middle of a cold war, with Jiangg Ning deliberately keeping her distance every day, Ningning would have probably been "bullied" by him in all sorts of roguish ways long ago.
He was at that hot-blooded age, and with such a stunning beauty in front of him all day, how could he possibly control himself?
"You don’t want to kiss me? Even if you did, I wouldn’t let you! You make it sound like I wanted it or something." Jiangg Ning grew even more annoyed.
’The blush on her cheeks must be a mix of anger and embarrassment; otherwise, why would the color have spread all the way to the base of her neck?’
"I knew you were lying. You’re obviously trying to trick me into coming over so you can strike."
"What’s wrong with wanting to hit you? Don’t you deserve a beating, you bastard? I’ve told you so many times that I’m staying by your side to work seriously, to live up to the dream and plan I had when I quit my job and changed careers. But you use that as an excuse to... bully me. Don’t you deserve a beating?"
Jiangg Ning’s argument was well-reasoned, and she condemned him from the moral high ground.
In the past, this definitely would have worked.
But the Chen Yuan before her now was an upgraded version.
"But it wasn’t on purpose. It was an accident, and you don’t believe me."
"If it wasn’t on purpose, why did you run?"
"I—"
Chen Yuan was just about to answer when Jiangg Ning seized the opportunity. Moving with the agility of a rabbit, she scurried toward him and, in the blink of an eye, caught him off guard, grabbing his jacket.
In that instant, he had a flash of inspiration.
Before a triumphant look could even appear on Ningning’s face, he slipped right out of his jacket—a classic escape act—leaving Jiangg Ning’s budding smile to freeze on her face.
A dangerous glint appeared in her eyes as she stared at Chen Yuan.
"Trying to ambush me while I’m talking? You’re dreaming," he snorted.
"Just one punch," Jiangg Ning said, softening her tone since she couldn’t catch the crafty Chen Yuan. "Just one. Let me blow off some steam, and then we can work in peace. That’s not too much to ask, is it?"
"That’s not too much to ask???"
"Fine. I’ll ignore you. I’ll just cool down on my own, alright?"
With that, Jiangg Ning took a few deep breaths and, surprisingly, gave up on her revenge. She turned to him with a smile, sauntered back to her seat in her high heels, took a sip of coffee, then sat up perfectly straight and started working at her computer.
’Is she really ignoring me?’ Chen Yuan wondered, watching her from his spot for a good while.
He saw that Jiangg Ning had truly lost the desire to chase him and was now clattering away on her keyboard, looking every bit the serious professional.
Chen Yuan suddenly felt that this was no fun at all. He pouted.
"..."
He felt utterly bored. Things had just started to get interesting, but he never expected the furious Ningning from moments ago to calm down so quickly.
’As expected,’ he thought, ’it’s no fun playing with someone so rational.’
If this had been Jiangg Yao, she would have chased him for eight blocks.
"Really working?" Chen Yuan asked, tentatively walking over.
He was just like a rabbit that had escaped a hunter—panicked at first, but after not being caught, it hops back to watch the hunter’s every move.
"I don’t really get it. Is finance really that interesting? You spend any free time you have at work reading up on investment knowledge. I remember you not being that into money before."
"It doesn’t have much to do with money," Jiangg Ning said calmly. "You like playing video games. For me, finance is a huge, unknown territory to be endlessly explored. Every time I learn something new and gain new knowledge, it gives me a sense of accomplishment and worth. Besides, finance itself is an indispensable part of human society."
"When you put it that way, I can kind of understand."
"Didn’t you study it before, too?"
"I only scratched the surface. Right now, I’m learning about the exploration, extraction, storage, and transportation of oil and natural gas, which is the most interesting part for me. It’s related to my major in college, so I pick it up really quickly. Learning fast gives me a greater sense of accomplishment."
"Then may I ask, Mr. Chairman, does this have anything to do with your position in energy management?"
"Of course. If I don’t understand the fundamentals, I can’t do a good job with energy exchange and management. The field of energy and power engineering is so advanced now. Didn’t that Gao Dengfeng guy talk a whole lot about it the other day? I went back and thought about it, and he really had a point..."
The investment firm was just a stepping stone.
Chen Yuan was a STEM geek at heart. He had always excelled academically, and his greatest interest was applied physics. Showing off his expertise to his girlfriend was a joy in itself, and he spoke about it endlessly, his face lighting up with excitement.
Of course, he was happy to share all this with Jiangg Ning. For a while now, he’d wanted to just chat about random things, but neither of the sisters was willing to listen, which had left Chen Yuan feeling thoroughly frustrated.
Jiangg Ning listened with great interest for a while, chiming in from time to time.
This made Chen Yuan ecstatic. After a moment, he completely forgot that he was the prey.
A slight curve gradually formed on Jiangg Ning’s lips. She would nod occasionally or hum in agreement to show she was listening. Once he was close enough, just over a fist’s distance away, a look of smug delight suddenly appeared on her face.
Her fair fist clenched and, in an instant, swung down hard.
Chen Yuan had no time to dodge. By the time he reacted, the punch had already landed on his thigh.
"AH!"
A gut-wrenching cry of pain echoed throughout the office.
"Run? I’ll give you something to run about!"
Jiangg Ning’s face flushed with excitement again. Seeing Chen Yuan fall onto the carpet in pain, she pressed her advantage. With swift movements, she grabbed his hand, using the grappling techniques she had learned at Yale University to restrain him before flipping over and sitting on top of him.
"Didn’t you say you were giving up on revenge to work?"
"You can lie, but I can’t? To deal with a shameless bastard like you, I have to learn even more vicious methods," Jiangg Ning said, unable to hide her smugness as she pinched his neck. "Go on, try and run again. I’d like to see you try."
"I won’t run again."
"I’ll teach you to kiss me! I’ll teach you to be a scoundrel! I’ll teach you to be so shameless!"
The sound of her slaps rose and fell like a continuously crescendoing march. Jiangg Ning doled out her punishment for a while, feeling that her great vengeance had been served.
She let out a huge sigh of relief, feeling utterly gratified.
CLATTER—
Due to the vigorous movements, her high-heeled shoe easily slipped off, tumbling a few times before landing next to Chen Yuan’s cheek. Her fair foot was now revealed, planted somewhat self-consciously on the carpet to support her body.
Chen Yuan miserably turned his head, only to find Ningning’s perfect, jade-like foot right before his eyes.
He stared at it for a few seconds, suddenly overcome with the impulse to kiss it.
But he knew that kissing it would be a death sentence.
"Pervert!"
Chen Yuan didn’t react for a moment, which Jiangg Ning found strange. She tilted her head in confusion and followed his burning gaze.
Jiangg Ning froze for half a second before suddenly scrambling to her feet, her cheeks instantly flushing a deep crimson.
She quickly retrieved her high heel and smoothed the messy strands of hair at her forehead.
In that moment, she was infinitely captivating.
