This solution crossed a moral line for Chen Yuan.

He was stunned for a long while, unable to snap out of it.

Chen Yuan had originally thought Jiangg Yao had some concrete plan to slowly break down her sister’s psychological defenses. He never imagined he’d been too naive, that it would take something so drastic to make Jiangg Ning concede.

If Ningning was truly that stubborn, then Chen Yuan had no idea what to do.

Before tonight, he had desperately wanted to know this solution.

When the crisis with the Jiangg Family occurred, Chen Yuan thought he was finally getting the breakthrough he’d been hoping for.

But it turned out to be nothing more than wishful thinking.

In other words,

knowing the solution was what made the situation completely hopeless.

"Is that... is that really the only way?" Chen Yuan asked, his voice filled with bitter reluctance.

"Yes," Jiangg Yao said, pursing her lips. "You can’t change her. If you really push her too far, she’d rather give up entirely than marry you with me... I can’t believe you haven’t sensed how stubborn she is after a year of dating."

"I did sense it, but... sigh."

Even though Chen Yuan had a thousand things he wanted to say, they all dissolved into a single sigh.

He suddenly felt an immense, soul-crushing exhaustion.

’All that effort, and this is what it came to.’

...

"Never mind."

After a long silence, Chen Yuan suddenly spoke in a low voice.

"Forget what?"

"Let’s just let things happen naturally. I’m tired of getting so worked up over this. I won’t pressure Ningning anymore. If she doesn’t want to change, then so be it."

Chen Yuan leaned back, cradling his head in his hands, and stared blankly at the ceiling of the tent.

"Just as I expected," Jiangg Yao said suddenly. "I knew you couldn’t do it, Young Master. Even though you always claim you’ll do whatever it takes, when the solution was actually in front of you, you wouldn’t even try it."

"I want you and Ningning to marry me, not because I want the happy life of having two wives, and not because I’m greedy. It’s because I can’t let go of either of you. I want you both to be happy. But this solution requires hurting Ningning, and I can’t do that... I will never hurt you or Ningning," he murmured.

"Come back with me tomorrow," Chen Yuan said, sitting up. "And I don’t need you to agree to any conditions for the money anymore. Since my dream is impossible, there’s no point in tying you and Ningning to my side. From now on, we’ll just handle things as they come. After your mother’s situation is resolved, you two can choose whatever path you want. It’s up to you."

"I’m... a little tired, too." Chen Yuan gave a wan smile.

"You don’t want my sister and me to marry you anymore?" Jiangg Yao was surprised at how quickly he’d given up.

"What’s the use in me wanting it?"

"Then what are you going to do now?"

"Will you marry me?" Chen Yuan asked softly, turning his head to look at her.

"I... I’ve always been willing."

"Then, once your mother is out, I’ll come to formally propose to your family. We can get engaged first, okay?"

Chen Yuan’s voice suddenly grew warm as he looked at Jiangg Yao.

In his voice,

was a clear sense of relief and liberation.

After such a long period of torment,

Chen Yuan had finally accepted the truth of his situation.

When people blow something out of proportion, they often lose their way. They forget where they stand, forget what place that thing truly holds in their life, and forget what they wanted in the first place.

He had always wanted to make both Ningning and Yaoyao happy.

’But now, aren’t I just torturing them both?’

’What’s the point of letting this go on... making everyone suffer together?’

’Better to just admit defeat.’

He always shouldered everything himself, so desperate to achieve his perfect dream that he’d been making decisions for the two sisters all along.

’That was obviously wrong.’

"A formal proposal?" Jiangg Yao’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.

The term felt a little foreign, yet it held a special kind of allure.

It was instantly seared into her mind.

She couldn’t help but start imagining the scene: Chen Yuan arriving at her home with his family, the elders from both sides sitting primly on the sofa, while she stood with her head bowed, face flushed with shyness and unease, occasionally glancing up to see Chen Yuan’s smiling eyes.

Inside the tent,

Jiangg Yao quickly shook her head.

’This isn’t the time to be daydreaming about romance.’ She had too many important things to handle; resolving her family’s crisis was the top priority.

"It might sound a bit crass to say this, but if we get our engagement settled first, we can both focus on our own tasks with peace of mind. It won’t take much effort, and it’ll make everything official. After we’re engaged, we’ll have to wait until you’re of legal age to get married. The thought of it is quite nice, isn’t it?"

"And my mother’s situation... is it easy to resolve?"

"It’s not difficult. It’s mainly a question of money," Chen Yuan replied. "After we get back tomorrow, I’ll have my financial assistant get the funds ready. Then we’ll schedule a meeting with the creditors."

"We need to sign a contract first," Jiangg Yao said anxiously.

"Yaoyao, are you silly? Once we’re engaged, we’ll be family. What’s this about money? In the future, I’ll give all my money to you. How about you manage the household finances for me?"

"I..."

Her face immediately flushed a light pink.

The more Jiangg Yao tried to talk about her family’s situation, the more Chen Yuan steered the conversation toward their marriage.

But you couldn’t really blame Chen Yuan for that.

After all, he knew the ins and outs of the Jiangg Family’s situation and had already taken care of everything, big and small, without the sisters’ knowledge. So in his eyes, the matter was already closed.

It had to be said,

at this critical moment, he had shown the responsibility expected of a man—a quality befitting the pillar of a family.

Looking back on it, Chen Yuan was quite satisfied with his own performance.

"YAWN..."

The thought made Chen Yuan yawn.

"We have an early flight tomorrow, so let’s get some sleep. I’m dead tired."

He shifted into a comfortable position to sleep, and Jiangg Yao obediently lay down beside him. As she stared up at the ceiling of the tent,

Jiangg Yao suddenly found it all incredible.

The problem that had plagued her for so long had been solved just like that. Chen Yuan had decided to marry her, and it had nothing to do with her sister.

It was something that was completely between the two of them.

Once her family’s problems were over, he was going to formally propose!

They were going from being a couple to being fiancés...

Jiangg Yao had never imagined this day would come so soon.

"Young Master..."

"What is it?"

"Are we still getting up at five to watch the sunrise?"

"What sunrise? I’m dead tired. Give me a break, will you? You have no idea, from the moment I got to Tokyo until right now, I haven’t had a single full night’s sleep. And you just had to make me climb this tower. Do you have any idea how hopeless I felt staring up at this thing that’s hundreds of meters tall?"

"Oh, never mind then..." Jiangg Yao pouted and said softly.

She didn’t press him, understanding how hard things had been for him.

Still, she had really wanted to watch the sunrise with him from the Tokyo Tower. It would have been the perfect, romantic end to their trip...

"Sleep!" Chen Yuan grumbled, rolling over.

A moment later, Jiangg Yao heard the sound of his steady breathing.

「Several minutes later.」

Chen Yuan was probably fast asleep.

Jiangg Yao, however, couldn’t sleep at all. Her mind was a chaotic mess of thoughts. After lying there for a while, she quietly peeked over at Chen Yuan’s peaceful profile.

Lying back down, she wrapped her arms around him.

"Goodnight, Young Master," Jiangg Yao murmured.

"Mmm... set an alarm. Wake me up at five."

"Huh?" Jiangg Yao froze for a second. When she realized what he’d said, a smile bloomed across her face. "You’re the best, Young Master... I love you so much."

...

「5:08 AM.」

Wrapped in a blanket, Chen Yuan stumbled out of the tent, rubbing his bleary eyes and yawning as he walked.

"Hurry up, Young Master!" Jiangg Yao urged from a short distance away. She was already outside the tent, waiting for the sunrise.

A good number of other tourists were already up and about on the Tokyo Tower.

Jiangg Yao had claimed a prime viewing spot. When Chen Yuan joined her, she wrapped her arms around his.

They sat together as the sharp morning wind rustled their hair and clothes. In the distance, the city’s silhouette gradually emerged from the hazy darkness, and the deep color of the sky began to slowly fade.

Gradually, a soft blue washed over the sky, as if gently stained with dye.

Jiangg Yao rested her head on Chen Yuan’s shoulder, her eyes shimmering with delighted surprise as she watched the sunrise.

It began with a tiny fleck of orange on the horizon, flickering like a newly lit flame. Then, an arc of light leaped into view, growing more and more intense until even the clouds were stained a brilliant golden-red.

Chen Yuan watched for a moment, still yawning.

The light grew until the entire tower beneath them was draped in a dreamy, golden veil.

"Whoa!" Jiangg Yao had no words to describe the breathtaking scene before her and could only sigh. "It’s so beautiful... so romantic~"

"It’s not bad," Chen Yuan said lazily, squinting.

"We should get going," Jiangg Yao said, nudging Chen Yuan’s shoulder. She suddenly spread her arms wide. "Goodbye, Tokyo!"

A smile played on Chen Yuan’s lips as he gave a half-hearted wave of his own.

「After a long moment.」

"Young Master."

"Hm?"

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead."

"How did you end up falling in love with two people at the same time?"

Jiangg Yao looked at him, her eyes full of curiosity.

Chen Yuan thought for a moment.

"I did try to resist it."

It was not an answer to her question.
