The Floor 4 portal deposited them into an antechamber of flawless, polished black stone. The walls were as smooth as obsidian glass, reflecting the thick, pulsing red veins that ran through the masonry like the arteries of a dying titan. The rhythmic, subterranean heartbeat was deafening here—a heavy, constant thrum that vibrated through the soles of Nathan’s boots and rattled his teeth. The air was frigid, thick with the coppery stench of old, oxidized blood. It was a cold that ignored thermal layers, settling directly into the lungs.
Nathan’s [Hunter’s Insight] flared, washing the dark antechamber in a tactical overlay. "Contacts ahead. A heavy defensive line. Wisps and Stalkers operating in tandem. They’re guarding the gate."
At the far end of the hall stood a massive set of double doors forged from rusted iron and ancient, yellowed bone. Carved into the metal were the same violent, jagged blood-runes they had found on the altar above. Waiting in the gloom before the threshold was the Tower’s final vanguard—a gauntlet of shifting, crimson horrors flickering like dying flames in the dark.
"Standard enclosed formation," Nathan ordered, drawing Moonlight. The Tyrant’s Eye swirled to life, bleeding a cool silver mist into the suffocating red dark. "We clear the room, we open the door. Mirko, Frost Golem—hold the center. Elise, lock down the walls; don’t let the Stalkers phase through. Dillon, Cloudy—take the flanks and the air. Garrett, Red—secure the rear. Kuro, paint the priority targets."
Understood, Summoner. Kuro shifted seamlessly into her humanoid form, the silver threading of her bodysuit catching the crimson light as her daggers slid into her hands. The Stalkers will use the arterial veins in the walls as conduits to bypass the front line.
"Then we sever the conduits," Nathan said, nocking an arrow. "Move out."
The Blood Wisps initiated the assault. They bled from the glowing veins in the walls, coalescing into a suffocating cloud of crimson mist that rushed the party.
Mirko stepped forward, her blade drawn. [Impenetrable Fortress] exploded outward into a brilliant emerald dome. The swarm of Wisps crashed against it like a wave against a breakwater. Wherever the mist touched the magic, the green light physically dimmed, pale scars forming on the barrier as the Wisps desperately tried to siphon Mirko’s mana.
"Hmph! Persistent parasites!" Mirko planted her boots, her eyes flashing. "But persistence is merely the prelude to your defeat!" She swept her heavy blade in a devastating horizontal arc. [Aegis Strike] released. KRAK-BOOM. The kinetic shockwave buckled the air, violently scattering a dozen Wisps into dissipating vapor.
As the Wisps fell back, the Crimson Stalkers struck. They emerged silently from the arterial veins in the walls, their gaunt, liquid bodies flowing out of the solid stone like water. Their elongated claws gleamed with dark, coagulated magic. One materialized seamlessly from the wall directly in Elise’s blind spot, lunging for her throat—
The Frost Golem moved. Its massive crystalline fist caught the Stalker mid-air, slamming the liquid horror back against the black stone. Absolute zero rushed from the point of impact. CRRRRACK. The Stalker was flash-frozen into a jagged ice sculpture, the deep freeze traveling directly into the wall’s blood vein, plugging the conduit and trapping two more Stalkers half-emerged in the stone.
"The cold compromises their cellular structure!" Elise yelled over the din. "Freeze the architecture!"
She raised Aurora’s Heart. The staff blazed with northern light as [Mana Bolts] shrieked from the crystal, slamming into the pulsing walls. Each detonation didn’t just deal kinetic damage; it instantly froze massive sections of the room’s arteries. The Stalkers caught in the ambush conduits thrashed violently, their liquid forms completely incapable of phasing through solid ice.
Dillon became a blur of blue static. His Storm Striders hissed as he chained [Flash Step] through the chamber. Cloudy spiraled above him, unleashing a chain-lightning discharge that arced through the frozen, trapped Stalkers. CRACKLE-BOOM. The voltage shattered the ice and the blood simultaneously. Dillon followed up with [Thunder Edge], his blade carving through the remaining pockets of resistance.
At the rear, Garrett and Red held the line against a flanking swarm of Wisps. Volcan’s thermal pulse roared—KRAK-BOOM—the blistering heat instantly boiling the blood-mist into harmless steam. Red’s armored fleece deflected whatever slipped past, the crimson plating completely immune to the Wisps’ draining touch. "Keep pushing!" Garrett roared. "Rear is locked down!"
Kuro was a phantom in the dark. Relying on [Invisibility] to bypass the Wisps’ blind sensory pulses, she materialized directly behind a Stalker that had managed to tear free of the ice. [Blind] engulfed its featureless face in shadow. [Assassinate] followed instantly. Shink-Shink. The creature collapsed into useless, inert liquid.
In the center of it all, Nathan acted as the executioner. He fired only when a kill was guaranteed. Thwip-Thwip-Thwip. His [Mana Arrows] threaded through the chaos, detonating the dense, liquid cores of the remaining Stalkers. The Capacitor dipped to sixty percent, the Leyline Ring feeding a steady stream of mana back into his veins. It was controlled, efficient, and lethal.
Under the combined weight of Mirko’s shockwaves, Elise’s permafrost, Dillon’s lightning, and Nathan’s precision, the final Stalker dissolved. The surviving Wisps scattered, fading into the dark as their connection to the room was severed.
The antechamber fell deathly silent.
A moment later, the massive iron-and-bone door groaned. Its ancient hinges screamed like tortured metal as it slowly swung inward, revealing the yawning dark of the final floor.
[Floor 4 Cleared!]
Nathan checked his wrist. Fifty-five percent. Plenty for the boss. "One floor left. The Crimson Lord. Is everyone ready?"
"Ready," Garrett confirmed, resting Volcan against his shoulder, its molten veins pulsing with a steady, waking heat.
"Cloudy and I are primed," Dillon said, a stray spark jumping from his katana to his armored boots.
Elise gave a curt nod, the light of Aurora’s Heart reflecting in her calm, calculating eyes. The Frost Golem stood like a monolith beside her.
Mirko confidently rested her D-Rank sword on her pauldron. "Hmph! A brooding vampire in his bloody cathedral! This Knight has dismantled horrors far more impressive than a man who drinks his meals! He shall fall like the rest!"
Your overconfidence is staggering, Kuro murmured from the shadows.
"It is not overconfidence when the skill matches the volume, Kuro!"
Nathan allowed himself a faint smile, adjusting his grip on his bow. He stepped over the threshold.
Floor 5 was a cathedral built of blood and shadow.
The vast, perfectly circular chamber was so massive the ceiling was lost entirely to the dark. The walls were draped in towering, rigid tapestries woven from congealed, solidified blood. The floor was a sheet of polished obsidian, a flawless black mirror that perfectly reflected the thick network of arterial veins spider-webbing across the unseen ceiling. Scattered across the floor were irregular, shallow pools of liquid blood, their surfaces as dark and thick as oil.
The heartbeat was overpowering here. Thrum-thrum-thrum. It vibrated violently against Nathan’s sternum.
At the dead center of the room, seated upon a massive throne carved from a single, jagged monolith of blood-red crystal, waited the Crimson Lord.
He was humanoid, but the proportions were deeply unnatural. He was excessively tall and gaunt, his limbs slightly too long, his pale grey fingers ending in wicked, sickle-like claws. His skin was stretched tight over sharp, prominent bones, making him look like a perfectly preserved corpse. His eyes didn’t reflect light; they generated it—twin, burning flames of ancient blood magic. He wore a shifting, fluid armor of congealed blood, the plates constantly sliding and reforming over his flesh like liquid metal.
When he saw the party, his thin lips pulled back into a slow, razor-fanged smile.
He rose. As he stood, the arterial veins above them pulsed faster, the heartbeat accelerating in the stone.
"So," the Crimson Lord murmured. His voice was smooth, cultured, and terrifyingly ancient. It echoed across the obsidian floor. "A new batch has come, I tasted your arrival the moment you breached my domain. The iron in your veins... it sings."
He slowly descended the steps of his crystal throne, his long claws leaving faint, trailing ribbons of red light in the air. "Hmm, let me see...an F-Rank archer with an iron spine. A loud Knight. A quiet Assassin. An ice mage, a lightning samurai, and a shield who refuses to break. What an interesting party..."
He stopped at the bottom of the dais, spreading his arms wide. The oil-black blood pools across the chamber began to ripple in sympathetic response. "Three parties have stood where you stand over the last decade. All of them failed. Their blood currently flows through these veins, feeding this Tower’s heart. Your blood will simply join theirs. Do not take it personally. It is merely the natural order."
Nathan drew Moonlight, the silver mist bleeding into the oppressive red air. "I thought only Elite Tower bosses could converse..."
The Crimson Lord’s smile widened, exposing the full length of his fangs. "Hmm, i guess Babel did have a setting like that? But, a few of us can be special. Can’t we?" He winked at nathan. "Well then, enough Talk. let us test your conviction!."
He vanished.
The speed was terrifying. The Lord crossed the vast expanse of the cathedral in a singular blur of red light.
Mirko threw herself forward, [Impenetrable Fortress] flaring just as the vampire’s claws descended. CLANG. The kinetic impact was so violent it rang through the chamber like a cracked cathedral bell. The green barrier held, but the Lord’s claws gouged deep, hissing grooves into the magic. Mirko’s boots skidded backward across the obsidian, leaving twin trails of sparks.
"He hits like a falling building!" Mirko grunted, bracing her shoulder against the shield. "And he is irritatingly fast! But I have dealt with smug aristocrats before!"
