All the dimensional rifts were different on the inside. Not just the appearance, but the size and type of monsters inside too. So while stepping through that portal, I had no idea what to expect. It could be way more dangerous than what the Internet said.
The hunters who explored that place might not have seen everything there was in there...
Anyway, passing through the rift made me motion sick, but only for a moment. It got better once I was on the other side, standing still, looking at my surroundings.
I was in the open, but not quite. The area was a dense forest. It was really dark, since the treetops covered the sun, or fake sun, or whatever counted as sky inside the rifts in the first place.
The ominous feeling took over me again, just like the first time I explored a dungeon. But with a deep breath, and checking my status again, I was confident this time would be much, much different.

All my stats were way better now. Not quite decent, but I was sure I already had higher attributes than most of the new students. Depending on how many monster crystals I got from this dungeon run, I could get even stronger before classes started tomorrow. That would be the perfect scenario.
I summoned my dimensional cube. It floated around me, all its movements controlled through a kind of mind connection.
Then, right after I took my first step into the dense jungle, a monster came flying at me. A massive wasp. If that thing was anything like the wasps on Earth, I could be in some deep trouble.
The creature had a wingspan of two meters. It flew with its stinger up. I split my cube into two parts, one turning into a shield, standing in front of the stinger to block it.
When the stinger hit my shield, a metallic sound echoed through the jungle. That stinger was more like a sword.
The other part of my cube flew around the wasp, changing shape into a spear, piercing the creature from behind.
My cube moved fast. The wasp didn’t stand a chance against me. The spear pierced through the creature, impaling it. It was dead.
I changed the shape of my cube again, turning it into a knife to open the wasp’s stomach and take out its monster crystal. Then I put it inside my pocket dimension.
When I did, though, Bob jumped in the air, opening his mouth to catch the monster crystal before it even hit the ground.
Despite eating that, it wasn’t enough. Bob was still red, with those scary shark teeth, jumping and hitting his head on the walls of my pocket dimension.
I kept moving through the forest. More creatures, again. A wasp was never alone, it seemed. A group of five came flying toward me.
Same strategy as before, but with that many wasps trying to sting me from every direction, I had to use the environment to protect myself.
But the vegetation was so thick I couldn’t move properly. I tried to run and hide behind a tree to avoid an attack, but a vine wrapped around my ankles, locking me in place.
A wasp stung me on my right shoulder. Pain spread through my whole body. It fucking hurt. But it didn’t break skin, since my body was already more resistant with 41 points in VIT.
Still, it hurt. I controlled my spear to pierce through that wasp, killing it seconds later.
Once I finally got free from the vines, I ran, circling around a thick tree to confuse the wasps. While running, my mind was still focused on controlling my cube. It was tiring to do both things at once. I still had plenty to learn.
The cube was now in full attack mode, both parts turned into weapons, a spear and a sword. No shields to protect me. Running was my way of avoiding attacks.
With two weapons, though, my killing speed picked up. One wasp got impaled, another got cut in half. It took me just 20 seconds to kill all 4 of them.
I crouched down and took the monster crystals from those creatures, tossing them into the pocket dimension again. After eating five crystals, Bob was a little calmer, though his appearance was still the same. At least he wasn’t jumping and hitting his head on the walls anymore.
The dense jungle was dense with monsters too. Wasps, venomous plants, mutated monkeys that even carried pieces of wood as weapons.
Most creatures didn’t pose a real threat to me. I killed them, and marked a few trees along the way so I’d know how to get back to the portal when I needed it. The monsters weren’t dangerous, but getting lost in that dense jungle definitely could be.
At one point, I was getting tired of constantly fighting monsters. I’d already thrown around 30 monster crystals for Bob to eat. His red color was brighter now, and he no longer had shark teeth.
Maybe 20 more crystals and he’d be back to normal. But my body and mind were tired. The monsters were weak, but fighting nonstop was still exhausting. Dimensional rifts were a place where stamina mattered too. Lots of hunters died to weak monsters after wearing themselves out.
On the ground, I couldn’t get a proper rest without something interrupting me. So, for the first time, I tried flying using my cube.
I changed its shape into a platform, like a surfboard, then hopped on and controlled it, rising toward the sky.
The vines got in my way a few times, but I flew right through them. I was really flying. So fucking cool. The uses for my cube seemed almost endless.
I stopped at the tree canopy. It was so dense I could stand on it without falling through. Once up there, I gazed at the horizon.
The jungle was massive, stretching for miles and miles. The sky was blue, with a beautiful sun hanging in it. It looked exactly like Earth, and that always made me wonder about the real origin of those dimensional rifts.
However, I quickly realized I shouldn’t have gone up there.
