My Profession Can Be Infinitely Upgraded
Chapter 27 - 13: Blazing Heart Fire, Clan DisciplesChapter 27: Chapter 13: Blazing Heart Fire, Clan Disciples
The moment the thought surfaced, they immediately squashed it.
Since yesterday, quite a few people had tried mimicking Jiang Xuan’s bizarre antics. Yet, no matter how much of a fuss they made, Dong Hao had not spared them a single glance.
"Just what kind of secret is Jiang Xuan hiding?" they wondered.
Utterly baffled, many grew increasingly envious and resentful of Jiang Xuan. However, a few harbored a different thought entirely.
They wondered, "Could Jiang Xuan actually be capable? Are we simply too blind to see it?"
While those at the back of the training ground gossiped endlessly about Jiang Xuan, quite a few of the Noble Family’s Descendants in the front row—along with their attendant Maids and Daoist Acolytes—also fixed their gazes on him.
It could not be helped. Dong Hao’s exceptional courtesy toward him was simply too unprecedented. Combined with the midday break, the crowd had plenty of free time to watch the spectacle.
Fortunately, while their stares were filled with disdain or blatant curiosity, most merely glanced at him. No one came over to pick a fight.
Just as Jiang Xuan thought he could finish his meal in peace and head back, a Noble Family’s Descendant from Dong Hao’s social circle suddenly marched over from a short distance away, his face darkened with displeasure.
"Dong Hao, what do you think you’re doing?! You’ve utterly disgraced our entire team!"
The angry, resentful interrogation caused the smile to instantly vanish from Dong Hao’s face. His expression turned solemn.
"Guo Shaoshang, it is not your place to dictate what I choose to do!
"And disgraced? I certainly do not recall doing anything shameful."
Casting a sideways glare at Jiang Xuan, Guo Shaoshang scoffed coldly. "You still deny it! Bowing and scraping to a Lower Classes’s Son like this, kissing up to a peasant—you’re dragging the pride of all us Noble Family’s Descendants straight into the mud!
"Open your eyes and look around! Everyone else is treating us like a laughingstock!"
The surrounding gazes did indeed carry a hint of mockery, but Dong Hao remained entirely unfazed. He merely sneered. "To let the stares of bystanders cloud your judgment—Guo Shaoshang, you truly are a useless piece of trash.
"Furthermore, I do not recall the Chen Daoist School, or even the Shenxiao Sect’s Elders when they evaluate our Grades a hundred days from now, ever caring about one’s background. True strength and Talent are our only means of establishing a foothold in the Shenxiao Sect.
"Trash will always be trash. You cannot even grasp what truly matters."
"You..."
Seeing Guo Shaoshang seething with fury and on the verge of starting a public shouting match with Dong Hao, another youth from their group immediately stood up and stepped between them.
"Alright, alright. We’re on the same team. Starting a fight over a Lower Classes’s Son simply isn’t worth it."
Having appeased the two, the youth named Zeng Jun cast a glance at Jiang Xuan before flashing a smile at Dong Hao. "Brother Dong, you defend Jiang Xuan so vehemently. It seems you have very high hopes for him?"
"Of course." Dong Hao nodded, making no effort to hide his high regard for Jiang Xuan. "In my view, Brother Jiang’s potential surpasses that of the vast majority of Noble Family’s Descendants. He will inevitably secure a ’Good’ Grade and enter the Chengdao Class. In the future, he has every chance of becoming a true fellow disciple of ours."
As he spoke, his gaze remained fixed squarely on Guo Shaoshang. That remark about surpassing "the vast majority of Noble Family’s Descendants" was clearly a pointed jab.
Unsurprisingly, those words only poured fuel on the fire of Guo Shaoshang’s rage.
Before he could explode, Zeng Jun interjected once more, putting on an air of impartiality to coax Dong Hao into accepting a wager.
"Since Brother Dong thinks so highly of him, and Brother Guo is clearly unconvinced, why don’t the two of you make a wager? Let’s set a time limit of ten days. You can bet on who will be the first to achieve Enlightenment in thirty-six points and secure a ’Good’ Grade—Jiang Xuan or Shaoshang.
"If you win this wager, I promise I won’t utter a single word of objection should Jiang Xuan wish to join our team in the future."
Hearing this, Nan Zhi, who had been standing obediently by the side, could no longer hold her tongue. She immediately sent a covert sound transmission to Dong Hao. "Young Master, be careful! You’re being set up! It’s obvious Zeng Jun purposely sent Guo Shaoshang over to provoke you into accepting this wager!"
Dong Hao showed no surprise at the Maid’s warning. He merely sent a calm transmission back, his tone brimming with total awareness. "I know. I simply played along and guided their little scheme right into place."
