My Professions Have Too Much Personality

Chapter 542 - 301: Xiao Xing’s Debut

The crowd gazed at the Flame Fire, their expressions filled with excitement.

Su Chen found it hard to relate. It wasn’t that he lacked a sense of belonging to the Bronze Sect, but he just hadn’t personally experienced much of the impact of the Flame Fire’s decline.

Even during the incident with Qin Yun, when the Four Great Sects and the Royal Court had come bearing down on them, he had mostly heard the stories secondhand. In contrast, everyone here had grown up in the Sect, their families stretching back for generations.

They had felt the impact of the Flame Fire’s decline and the Sect’s gradual decay in every aspect of their lives; it was a sharp sword hanging over all their heads.

And now that things finally seemed to be improving, how could they not be ecstatic?

"Twenty years ago..." Wei Zhenghong began, his voice low. "Not long after I became a Star Seed, I traveled from a Life Star under the Sect’s command to join the Sect proper, where my master took me in as his disciple."

"My home star wasn’t exactly remote, but it was nothing compared to the heart of the Sect. The compliments and flattery of others blinded me, and I carelessly fell into Qin Yun’s trap."

"That was when Qin Yun was at the height of her power. The Sect’s upper echelons were all on her side, and even my master was powerless to help. At my most desperate moment, the Ancient King himself descended and granted me one chance. But this caused the Flame Fire to go out for three whole months, throwing everyone into a panic."

The noise in the room gradually died down as all eyes turned to him.

Wei Zhenghong gazed at the Flame Fire, his voice swelling with emotion. "From that day forward, I secretly swore an oath: I would give anything to ensure the Sect would forever stand tall and prosperous in the Dust Star Sea."

"While the Sect has people I detest, it also has those I revere."

Though no one else had been through what Wei Zhenghong had, they had all grown up within the Sect, so their sense of belonging was just as strong.

Chu Ran was the first to speak, raising his cup. "It’s rare to see you get so sentimental! Come on, everyone... To the Ancient King!"

"To the Ancient King!"

The others raised their cups, Su Chen included. The atmosphere was electric, and he found himself getting caught up in it, thinking with a sigh:

’In a Sect this massive, it’s unrealistic to think everyone is a good person who gets along. But that doesn’t stop people from being willing to lay down their lives for its prosperity.’

The atmosphere grew even more lively, and everyone began to relax.

They weren’t sure by how much the Dark Sun had been delayed, but even one second or one minute was good news.

As cups were raised and toasts were made, even Shen Yi’an, who rarely drank, joined the festivities.

Having advanced to Tier Six, Su Chen’s metabolism had sped up, and his tolerance for alcohol had increased dramatically. He would no longer have to tap out halfway through the night.

"Old Su’s really letting loose!" Chu Ran’s face was flushed as he clinked his cup against Su Chen’s. "Is this your tenth cup, or your eleventh? In the old days, you’d be tapping out after five or six."

His mind probably fuzzy from the alcohol, Chu Ran didn’t think much of it and was merely surprised.

Su Chen, however, only felt a slight buzz. His Gulping Stomach had grown much stronger, greatly improving his ability to process alcohol. In fact, he could handle the high-tier liquor better than other Tier Six Professionals like Chu Ran and Zhao Ming.

Just as he downed the amber liquid in his cup, his wristband let out a BUZZ.

Su Chen glanced at it casually. His heart gave a little jolt. It was from Qing Cang.

He casually swiped it open to view the message. It was just two words: "Where at?"

He instinctively tapped it, about to reply, but then he glanced at their conversation history and pulled his finger back, muttering under his breath, ’If he has time to ask where I am, it can’t be anything urgent.’

"Who’s that?" Chu Ran couldn’t help asking.

"No one," Su Chen said, shaking his head and rejoining the party.

Not long after, a server hurried into the room, followed by another figure.

"Master Qing!" Jiang Mufeng was the first to spot the newcomer. A jolt went through him, sobering him up considerably, and he quickly got the attention of the others, who were still in high spirits.

"Master Qing, what brings you here? Please, sit..." Wei Zhenghong said in greeting. As a Tier Seven Professional, his gaze was still clear, but he looked surprised.

"I won’t. I’m looking for Su Chen." Qing Cang’s gaze swept the room, quickly finding Su Chen in the crowd.

"Oh, you’re looking for Old Su," Chu Ran mumbled, stepping aside. He then added, "Master Qing, won’t you join us for a drink? The Ancient King appeared and the Dark Sun has been delayed. It’s a rare cause for celebration."

"You all can celebrate here. I have some business with Su Chen." Qing Cang was in a pleasant mood himself; their happiness over the event was a clear sign of their strong sense of belonging to the Sect.

Su Chen stepped forward, said his goodbyes, and followed Qing Cang out.

Normally, Qing Cang wouldn’t use brute force to bypass a Floating Island’s defense systems. He had arrived via a Flying Device this time.

Once they had boarded the Flying Device, Qing Cang asked suspiciously, "I sent you a message. Did you see it?"

"What message?" Su Chen looked completely blank. Turning to the side, he activated his wristband, and his expression shifted to one of sudden realization. "Ah, Senior Brother, my apologies. I was caught up in the drinking and didn’t notice."

Qing Cang shot him a look, strongly suspecting the kid was getting a little revenge for the time he himself hadn’t replied to a message.

"As long as you didn’t ignore it on purpose, it’s fine," Qing Cang said slowly, his hands clasped behind his back.

"Of course not. Not replying after seeing a message? That would be just plain rude," Su Chen said with a slight frown.

Qing Cang felt like he’d just been insulted, but he was in a good mood and couldn’t be bothered to bicker with the kid.

He kept glancing at Su Chen, seeming to want to say something but holding back each time. This went on until the Flying Device landed at Su Chen’s Floating Island Port and they both disembarked.

At last, he couldn’t hold back any longer. He lowered his voice and asked, "Was it you who purified the Fog Ashes around the Flame Fire’s perimeter?"
