Lucian felt relieved when his wife took the news better than he had expected. He hadn’t wanted to disappoint her, but at the same time, he knew it was necessary to tell her.

After everything that had happened, he realized there was no way he could stop his wife from doing what she was good at—what she had grown accustomed to doing. All he could do was minimize the danger and trust that his wife was also his partner.

With that, the two cuddled and rested until the plane landed.

Before they could leave, however, Ashley spoke.

"We have to tell Uncle Tom."

Lucian hesitated. "What if he believes the first result?"

Ashley looked up and hummed thoughtfully. When she returned her gaze to him, she smiled.

"I doubt it." Her smile widened until it revealed her teeth. "He might be retired, but after everything that has happened, I understand why someone would be interested in him."

Lucian smiled in defeat. "Whatever you say."

"Haha. Let’s go."

With that, Lucian reached out and took her hand, leading her out of the room and into the cabin.

Hours later...

"I see."

Tommy clasped his hands together as he sat inside a car with customized seats facing one another.

Lucian and Ashley occupied the seats across from him. Lucian carefully studied Tommy’s reaction to what they had revealed, preparing himself for whatever the man might say.

But then...

"Haha."

Tommy chuckled before looking up, his gaze settling on Ashley.

Ashley’s smile widened. Unlike her husband, she didn’t appear worried in the slightest.

"I think these people are taking you for a fool," she remarked.

"I certainly think they are." Tommy nodded in agreement. "How interesting."

Lucian’s brows drew together as his gaze shifted between his wife and Tommy, who seemed to share the same reaction. The DNA test between them had come back negative, and he had believed both Tommy and Ashley would take the result seriously.

Or, at the very least, that it would disappoint them.

Lucian released a quiet chuckle and shook his head. "I feel foolish for thinking this would disappoint either of you."

"Ashley and I were already family before any of this," Tommy remarked. "You, Primo, Ashley... and everyone in Dominion are already my family. As I said, a piece of paper isn’t going to convince me otherwise."

Just like Ashley, Tommy didn’t care much about the results. He would continue caring for her and her family exactly as he had before.

"But Uncle Tom, if our theory is correct, what do you think they want from you?" she asked curiously.

Tommy stared at her briefly, his mind lingering on how she had addressed him.

It would have been nice if she had called him something else.

But it was still too soon.

"There are plenty of possibilities," Tommy answered, gently rocking his head as he considered the long list of things others might want from him. "During my time, I met many people. I made friends and enemies. Some people owed me favors, while I owed favors to others. But that’s simply how trade works in the underworld."

He paused and turned toward the window, falling deep into thought.

"But if it’s true that a high-ranking member of Dominion infiltrated the High Chamber and produced a decoy to save himself, then I can think of only one reason they would go so far as to use Marshal’s daughter and claim she was mine."

Tommy slowly returned his gaze to Ashley, studying her intently.

"They knew they could never make my real daughter cooperate."

At that moment, Tommy searched his heart once more, only to find that the answer remained the same.

His heart, mind, and soul knew that his daughter was here.

She was sitting right in front of him.

Meanwhile, Lucian and Ashley’s brows furrowed at Tommy’s words.

"Because they could never convince the real one..." Lucian trailed off as realization suddenly struck him. "The abduction."

Months ago, Ashley had been abducted.

Khan had told them that they had only been following orders. As for the reason behind those orders, none of them had known. All they understood was the danger that came with crossing Dominion.

However, Khan and the others hadn’t known that the operation included their deaths. Carrotman and two other men had been sent to assassinate them and take Ashley away.

What if the people behind everything had been forced to improvise after the abduction failed?

Perhaps they had realized that Ashley wasn’t someone they could simply take and use. Therefore, they had been forced to approach the situation differently.

"Lucian. Ashley." Tommy’s voice pulled the couple from their thoughts. He waited until they were both looking at him before continuing.

"In this world, there are people far more powerful than us—people who rule from behind the scenes. Compared to them, we are nothing but small fry."

He paused, studying their faces. "If my instincts are correct, the people behind this might be aiming for something far bigger than Dominion or me."

"Uncle Tom, what are you saying?"

"After losing my child, I met someone who belonged to what you might call the highest level of the World Order," Tommy explained. "I received a great deal of help before I was finally allowed the freedom to retire. That person was one of those who helped me."

"Do you think the people behind this want to become part of that Order?" Lucian asked.

Tommy chuckled.

"They can try, but I doubt they’re foolish enough to believe they stand a chance on their own," he quipped. "My guess? They want to become part of it, and if I’m right, they expect me to open the door for them."

Another heavy silence settled over the three of them as Ashley and Lucian processed Tommy’s words.

His theory was logical.

Tommy would surrender anything or reveal whatever he knew to protect the people he loved—especially his daughter. It just so happened that these people had underestimated Marshal’s foolishness and arrogance, allowing him to reveal the truth before his death.

Or perhaps they had overestimated Lucian, Tommy, and Ashley’s ruthlessness and expected them to execute Marshal immediately.

"But even so, why would they take Raka hostage?" Ashley asked quietly. "Wouldn’t keeping him alive give Marshal and Carmella the upper hand?"

"Raka was a diversion," Lucian explained. "With him there, the situation could’ve turned ugly. You could’ve been hurt."

Tommy nodded. "And if you had been hurt, they would’ve died as well. That would have left Isabella Di Carpio as the last surviving member of the family."

"Then their story would hold up," Ashley added.

Both Lucian and Tommy nodded.

"Holy shit," she gasped.

"Haha!" Tommy burst into laughter. "Anyway, as for the DNA test, I don’t believe the result anymore. They can tamper with it however they like."

Ashley pursed her lips. "We still need to know the truth. Auntie might want to know too."

"We can get our answer much faster."

Tommy shifted his gaze between the couple. They tilted their heads curiously as his lips curled into a knowing smile.

They didn’t have to wonder for long.

Soon enough, their car came to a stop in front of a hospital.

The same hospital where Scott had been transferred the night before.
