My Skills Can Evolve Infinitely in a Game-Like World
Chapter 116: Second NPC RankingThe "beating" of World_Builder lasted for quite a while.
Most of the comments below cursed him directly, as though they had completely forgotten about the trailer and the various developments of the forum.
It was clear that World_Builder had managed to attract another wave of hatred—an even more violent one.
Countless Players were furious at him, not only for insulting their Goddess, but also for daring to manipulate them!
Aurelius watched this happen with a faint smile on his face.
Although he was currently speechless at TheoryMaster69’s declaration, his contempt for World_Builder had not diminished in the slightest.
Compared to trying to keep him single forever, the attempt to have him be seduced by a bunch of hairy but disguised men made him even more disgusted.
After adding one more downvote to the pile and liking the top comments greeting his family, Aurelius took one final look at the trailer post before closing it.
Then, he intended to dismiss the forum as a whole.
He had already seen everything he needed to see.
Or so he thought.
Just as his mind stirred and the interface began to fade away, Aurelius suddenly halted his movements.
His eyes landed on a brand-new post. It was hardly recognizable among the sea of useless information.
Fortunately, the name of the poster attracted Aurelius’ attention.
ListRanker.
Title: "Ranking of NPCs (Upgraded Edition)"
Aurelius subconsciously pulled up the post.
A large list soon enveloped his vision, stretching for hundreds of places from start to finish.
He consciously looked away from it, not wanting to spoil himself just yet.
With deliberate movements, he focused on the text at the very top, where ListRanker had added an explanation.
"I don’t know how many of you have seen my previous list. Back then, with the information available to me, I was able to create what was the most accurate list at the time."
"However, several days have passed since then. Combined with the latest trailer, I feel it’s time to rethink my list."
"This time, I’ve also added a relevant description for each NPC. It will help us better understand them."
Aurelius nodded.
Just like the previous time, it was obvious that ListRanker had not made the list at random. Instead, he had put a lot of thought and care into it.
This made him sigh.
Judging from the few upvotes and the low engagement, ListRanker had yet to receive the recognition he deserved.
’Just how many Players like him are out there? Hidden beneath mountains of complaints and calls for building a catgirl harem??’
’I should pay more attention to posts with low engagement in the future...’
’Who knows? I might discover another talent.’
Aurelius made a note of this mentally.
Then, with clear anticipation in his eyes, he finally stared at the list.
His expression instantly changed.
...
"First Place: Aurelius Sol"
"Suspected Rank: Epic."
"Description: I believe everyone is already familiar with this NPC. Perhaps he is not the strongest, but Aurelius is by far the most mysterious NPC! Despite the changes, he still retains his first place!"
"Second Place: Assira"
"Suspected Rank: Epic."
"Description: This is one of the greatest changes. In the past, I regarded the other Protagonists as Rare NPCs. From the earlier trailer, however, we can see that they are extraordinary, both in strength and luck. Assira is listed first due to her background as a Princess."
"Third Place: Sauron"
"Suspected Rank: Epic."
"Description: Same as Assira. He is listed above Cassidra because of his mysterious Teacher."
"Fourth Place: Cassidra"
"Suspected Rank: Epic."
"Description: This is perhaps my most controversial decision. Although she appears to have the weakest background among all the Protagonists, that alone makes her special. She could very well reach second place under the right circumstances."
"Fifth Place: Duchess Solomon"
"Suspected Rank: Epic."
"Description: A noble of the War Empire. She is currently the leader in the battle on the eastern border. It is rumored that even the Princes and Princesses are scared of her. Her strength and status are worthy of the Epic Rank!"
"Sixth Place: Baron Heath"
"Suspected Rank: Rare."
"Description: An NPC that Players in the Dawn Kingdom’s capital should be familiar with by now. Besides Aurelius, the Baron is the one who has interacted with Players the most. His strength is suspected to have reached the pinnacle of Rank 3."
"Seventh Place: ..."
"Twenty-eighth Place: Anna"
"Suspected Rank: Rare."
"Eighty-first Place: Selene Novaltis..."
"..."
...
The list now included hundreds of NPCs.
Although the first four places remained the same, occupied by the four Protagonists of Nova Roma, several unfamiliar names followed behind them.
They were all extraordinary.
Evidence of this was that Professor Anna, who had originally occupied eighth place, had been pushed down by twenty spots.
Likewise, Selene had struggled to enter the top hundred.
She had mostly made it because of her close connection to Aurelius.
In ListRanker’s words: no useless person could accompany the Protagonist.
Reading through this praise that was actually an insult, Aurelius nearly wanted to take the list directly to Selene and watch her reaction.
Shaking his head with a smile, Aurelius looked back at the list.
His expression gradually turned solemn.
The upgrade of the Protagonists’ ranks was nothing. Something else piqued his interest.
Unlike the previous list, this one contained far more "heavyweights".
Even a fifth Epic NPC had been included, one which in strength surpassed all others.
"Duchess Solomon..." Aurelius muttered the name.
It was a familiar title.
The War Empire was the strongest force in all of Nova Roma. And just as its name suggested, its nature was extremely warlike.
Duchess Solomon, a powerful Awakener with countless subordinates, had become famous through the wars this Empire had experienced.
Her fame had spread even to the Dawn Kingdom, where parents used her name to scare their children as though she were a ghost.
They said she was a baby-eating monster. A lunatic. A butcher.
Every type of characteristic that people hated had been attached to her name.
Even compared to the infamous monsters, Duchess Solomon’s reputation was not any weaker!
Of course, whether this was the truth or merely propaganda from the Royal Family to rally its citizens remained a mystery.
Aurelius did not dwell on this matter for long.
The Duchess was far from someone he needed to worry about at the moment. These were the matters that the King and his father should worry about.
Rather than think about such meaningless things, he would rather gather more information about the people he would meet in the near future.
For example, Baron Heath...
