An azure trident suddenly materialized in Aurelius’ hand.

The moment it appeared, the surrounding temperature dropped even further, far below the freezing point.

Everything in the surroundings grew silent, as though a high-dimensional creature had pressed the "Pause" button.

Whether it was Edward, the murky black liquid, or even the dense white mist, they were all frozen.

At least, for a brief second.

Then...

"AAAAH!"

A horrified scream came from the Undead Evil Spirit. The shadowy creature seemed absolutely terrified.

Its actions fully showcased its horror.

Previously, it didn’t matter how much Aurelius attacked. Even after he had divided it into hundreds of tiny puddles, the murky liquid had remained completely unaffected.

It hadn’t even budged.

Yet the moment the Sea God’s Trident appeared in his hand, the Undead Evil Spirit rioted. It shook violently.

It no longer cared about reconstructing its physical body. Instead, it hurriedly moved, escaping into the distance!

It passed right by Aurelius, ready to dive deeper into the forest.

Unfortunately for it, it couldn’t go far.

Only a moment later, three azure tips pierced through its rippling surface.

Given its liquid appearance and its nature as pure Mana, the Undead Evil Spirit should have been able to escape unscathed.

However, that was not the case.

As the trident pierced through it, the Undead Evil Spirit’s forward momentum suddenly halted.

The start of a terrifying scream rang out, though it was cut off abruptly.

Bang!

Under Edward’s stunned gaze, the Undead Evil Spirit, which should have been indestructible in the face of low-Rank Awakeners, suddenly exploded.

He rubbed his eyes, then closely examined his surroundings, afraid that he had missed something. In his mind, it was impossible for such a being to die so easily.

He must be mistaken! There was something he must have missed!

Unlike Edward, Aurelius was far calmer.

He didn’t need to investigate his surroundings to confirm the Undead Evil Spirit’s death. He could already be certain about it.

The notification flashing in his field of vision had made it perfectly clear.

[Killed a Level 17 Undead Evil Spirit. EXP +700]

Aurelius was somewhat surprised.

He hadn’t expected the Undead Evil Spirit to be Level 17.

Its strength was far below what one would expect from that Level, more akin to a Level 5 to 10 monster.

However, when he recalled its strange concealment abilities that made it impossible for ordinary people to detect it, he felt it made sense.

Although not outwardly powerful, the Undead Evil Spirit could kill any Rank 1 Awakener if it managed to sneak up on them. Even Rank 2 Awakeners would be threatened.

Its Level made sense when taking this into account.

What didn’t make sense, however, was the amount of Experience slaying it had given Aurelius.

700 EXP.

This was a massive amount that far surpassed the difficulty of killing it.

In comparison, an ordinary Level 17 monster would at most grant him a couple hundred EXP.

’Is it because the Undead Evil Spirits are special?’ Aurelius guessed, feeling that this was the only plausible explanation.

Indeed. As creatures born from the resentment of high-Rank Awakeners, it made sense that they would be far more valuable than ordinary monsters.

Of course, Aurelius had yet to fully understand how Experience itself was calculated. He couldn’t be sure about his guess.

Even so, though somewhat surprised, he quickly accepted it.

There was someone, however, who found it impossible to accept what was happening.

Edward!

After a thorough investigation, he had discovered that the Undead Evil Spirit was truly dead. And this left him shocked.

He stared at Aurelius, and then at the trident in his hand, his mouth hanging open.

He seemed to wish to say something. To ask what had happened.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried, the words remained stuck in his throat. He couldn’t find a way to voice his confusion.

Aurelius realized his current state and knew where his confusion stemmed from.

However, he didn’t give any explanation.

He wasn’t afraid that Edward would discover the peculiarity of the Sea God’s Trident.

Since it was currently sealed, it was an Elite Relic for all intents and purposes.

The only strange thing about it was its toughness and high-level nature, the latter being something that could directly suppress the Undead Evil Spirits.

Aurelius’ mind wandered as he stared at the trident’s tip.

For other people, slaying these Undead Evil Spirits was either impossible or utterly meaningless.

Ordinary Awakeners could not kill them at all.

Those that could didn’t. After all, Undead Evil Spirits left behind no items.

There was no corpse nor any material worthy to try and kill them.

Aurelius, however, was a unique case.

He not only had an easy way to kill these creatures, but could also benefit tremendously by doing so!

Although he didn’t lack Experience at the moment and there were still tens of thousands of EXP he had left unused, this didn’t mean that he would not lack it in the future.

By accumulating it now, he could very well save the trouble for his future self.

At that thought, Aurelius could no longer keep himself still.

Without any hesitation, he ignored Edward’s injuries and complaints and continued dragging him deeper into the Dryad Forest.

He slowly moved toward the place of opportunity depicted in the illusory map.

Yet this time, he didn’t move in a single line.

He had one more target during this trip: to kill as many Undead Evil Spirits as he could and accumulate as much EXP as possible.

Thankfully, this goal of his was easy to achieve.

Less than a minute after he left the original spot, a thunderous cry rang out.

Then, it abruptly faded away.

The chime of a bell replaced it in Aurelius’ ears.

As minutes passed, the chime rang continuously, causing a faint smile to appear on his lips.

Looking at the notification log, he found it difficult to remain calm.
