My Skills Can Evolve Infinitely in a Game-Like World
Chapter 55: Arcane InsightThe shadowy Dryad Forest soon welcomed a visitor.
After several minutes and countless attempts, and just as he was about to run out of Spirit, Aurelius finally managed to land safely.
Wiping away the sweat on his forehead, he drank a Spirit Recovery Potion.
Then, he slowly raised his head to look at the vast forest before him.
He had become extremely familiar with it by now. Over the past few days, he had hunted hundreds of monsters within its depths.
Without hesitation, he calmly strolled into this otherwise forbidden place, venturing straight toward its depths.
Before long, he had arrived in a familiar location.
The outline of tiny crimson figures could be seen huddled near the ground, their red eyes breaking the surrounding darkness.
Red Hare Rabbits!
For the first time in quite some time, Aurelius met these rabbits again, the very monsters that had marked the beginning of his journey as an Awakener.
They had provided him great help while he was weak, and he would have never reached this point had it not been for them.
Red Hare Rabbits would have fled immediately upon facing an ordinary human, much less a Rank 2 Awakener like Aurelius.
But now, this deeply engraved instinct of theirs seemed to have disappeared.
Title—Rabbit Killer had taken effect!
The crimson in the rabbits’ eyes deepened.
After letting out shrill squeals that broke the silence, they lunged at Aurelius, as though their lives depended on it.
Aurelius casually waved his hand. A wave of golden flames erupted from his palm, enveloping the small rabbits and burning them to a crisp.
[Killed Level 3 Red Hare Rabbit. EXP +1]
[Killed Level 4 Red Hare Rabbit. EXP +1]
Dozens of notifications rang out. Most of the Red Hare Rabbits perished instantly.
After placing their remains in the System Inventory, Aurelius turned to the last of their kind.
The condition of this rabbit... was embarrassing considering its monster identity.
Grabbed by the tail and dangling helplessly in the air, it squeaked angrily, waving its front limbs in an attempt to claw at his face.
Aurelius was somewhat amused by its funny behavior. Even so, he didn’t forget the reason he had captured it.
He showed no mercy.
Leaning down, he brought the rabbit close to the ground and nudged it with his finger.
As though able to sense his thoughts, the rabbit’s squeaks became even more intense. It sought revenge for this humiliation!
Several seconds later, however, the Red Hare Rabbit seemed to have seen its final fate.
Perhaps it had accepted its fate. Or perhaps it was merely pretending, waiting for the perfect opportunity to launch a sneak attack.
The rabbit lowered its claws and began digging.
In just a couple of swings, a hole large enough for it to move through had formed.
To most people, this scene was just a rabbit digging a hole.
Nothing impressive.
But Aurelius’ eyes lit up.
A small rune flashed within his blue eyes, tracing along the rabbit’s movements.
Arcane Insight.
Yes! The reason Aurelius captured this rabbit was to learn its racial skills.
More precisely, the "hole digging" skill.
As he watched the rabbit dig down, he noticed a small experience bar appear at the edge of his vision.
With every swing of its claws, the experience bar would move forward.
Perhaps because the so-called hole-digging skill was too low level, or simply because the Level 3 Arcane Insight was strong enough, it didn’t take long.
Half a minute later...
"Congratulations, you’ve learned: Digging."
As soon as he saw this prompt, Aurelius knew that the Red Hare Rabbit had completed its role.
Glancing down only to find it gasping for breath, he thought for a brief moment before tossing it away.
’Consider yourself lucky.’
’Since you’ve worked so hard and helped me learn your racial skills, I’ll spare your life this once,’ Aurelius thought, watching as the red rabbit disappeared into the surrounding vegetation.
He didn’t track it.
Rather, he leaned down and placed his hand on the ground.
A trace of Spirit flowed out of his palms. It enveloped the dirt and broke it apart.
Then...
Almost nothing.
A tiny hole appeared on the ground, similar to the one created through a single strike of the rabbit’s claws.
The tiny hole, barely wider than one of his fingers, made Aurelius somewhat embarrassed.
He had thought that the Digging skill would have been adjusted according to his size once he had gotten his hands on it.
Unfortunately, this assumption had proven incorrect.
The skill was exactly the same, whether it was cast by him or a Red Hare Rabbit.
’It seems that my dream of opening tunnels underground was cut preemptively,’ Aurelius shook his head.
He rose to his feet, patting the dirt off his hands. Despite his many complaints, he was not angry.
Although useless, he had at least managed to obtain a skill, not only confirming the function of Arcane Insight, but also enhancing his Intelligence through the Knowledge Library.
Overall, the results were satisfying, though it remained a mystery whether he truly believed that or he was merely trying to convince himself.
In the end, he shook his head, pushing this matter to the back of his mind and continuing deeper into the forest.
--
The Dryad Forest was usually peaceful at this hour. Even monsters needed to rest after a day of hunting, and this time could play that role.
Unfortunately, the arrival of a troublemaker had broken this hard-won peace.
Near the center of the forest, a relatively ordinary tree was rooted in the ground.
It possessed no outstanding characteristics—at least on the surface.
Yet once someone examined it closer, they would discover that a human-like face was carved into its trunk.
It moved like a wooden mask, mimicking human emotions.
At this moment, only a single emotion remained on its face:
Fury!
Staring at the human who dared to disturb its peace, the tree violently waved its branches, lashing them out as though they were whips.
Each strike carried enough force to snap an ordinary person’s spine in two. This was the skill that had helped the tree monster survive for so long.
Unfortunately, the puny human before it remained calm.
Holding a silver dagger, he waved it through the air, accurately parrying each of its strikes.
This only fueled the tree monster’s anger even further. The speed of its branches grew quicker, while its mouth opened wide.
It let out a shrill scream.
