Despite what Andrea’s behavior would suggest, she was surprisingly reliable when it mattered.

After confirming multiple times that Aurelius was willing to pay for their drinks, she finally began to introduce him to the rest of her team.

The four Awakeners gave a brief overview of their Classes and specialties, while Aurelius was asked to do the same.

Half an hour later, the group departed from the city, entering the desolate wilderness.

"Andrea, is it really worth it to share our spoils with this guy? How much can a mere Mage possibly help us?" Marcus, the Shield Bearer, asked Andrea, the distrust in his eyes obvious as he glanced at Aurelius from the corner of his eye.

His unfriendly gaze did not catch Aurelius by surprise. He had long noticed that this man had developed some hostility against him.

Given the lack of any interaction before, he strongly suspected it was because of Andrea.

’Could it be that he likes Andrea? Am I experiencing the classic love-triangle tale?’ Aurelius complained inwardly, watching as Andrea moved next to him, practically hugging his arm.

She smiled.

"Marcus, you don’t have to worry. I’ve already decided our battle plan while in the tavern."

"As always, you and Matthew will stand at the front and block the enemies. Medea will remain behind and fire from a distance, while I will cast Heal whenever necessary."

"As for Aurelius..." Andrea glanced at him.

"You should stay between me and the front line. Help everyone whenever you deem fit. I trust your intuition."

Among the four, Andrea’s Healer Class possessed the weakest combat ability. Likewise, Medea’s actual status far exceeded everyone else’s.

Yet no one tried to argue against her.

Even Marcus merely glared a couple more times at Aurelius before turning around with a cold snort.

Aurelius was surprised. He had never expected this drunkard Healer to possess such leadership qualities.

The rest of their journey further showcased that.

With a leather map in her hands, Andrea led them deeper into the wilderness. The human stronghold slowly disappeared behind them.

As Aurelius had already confirmed on the way here, goblins were nearly everywhere.

Therefore, it naturally didn’t take long before they finally encountered a team of these monsters.

--

"Grll!"

A hoarse voice resounded through the clearing, accompanied by the heavy thumps of footsteps.

Raising his head, Aurelius was faced with the familiar short, green-skinned creatures.

Their numbers were no less than the two teams he had wiped out earlier.

Moreover, the interfaces above their heads revealed they were individually stronger.

[Goblin. Level 11], [Goblin. Level 10], [Goblin. Level 12]

Even Level 14 goblins could be seen among their ranks.

Every one of them appeared stronger than the members of their adventure team.

Despite this, they showed no panic.

Aurelius had no need to take action.

Even without his intervention, the group cooperated seamlessly.

"Shield!" Andrea shouted solemnly, having completely shed her previous unreliable disguise.

In response, Marcus slammed the giant shield onto the ground before him. A silver light condensed and a barrier was erected, sweeping outward.

The incoming goblins were pushed back, nearly dropping to the ground.

"Strike!" Andrea gave another command.

Matthew rushed forward in person, smashing the heads of the stunned goblins to pulp.

At the same time, Medea drew on her bow, placing five arrows on the bowstring before letting them go.

Woosh! Woosh! Woosh!

The arrows rained upon the goblins, each piercing a head.

Medea didn’t stop. She repeated that set of actions without the slightest discrepancy, sending another barrage.

From start to finish, Andrea’s voice was the only thing that could be heard.

Under her command, their cooperation was truly seamless.

Aurelius had to sigh. Although these people were weaker than him, their combat experience unquestionably surpassed his.

As for their ability to work as part of a team? It was several levels above his own.

’I’ve mostly fought alone in the past. Even during the times I worked with Selene, I still was the main force, with her acting as my support.’

’Compared to these people, who have honed their abilities over several years, I’m completely inadequate.’

He shook his head.

Fortunately, Aurelius did not feel too disappointed. He had long known this was the case.

With a wave of his hand, a Fireball materialized above his palm before shooting forward.

It was significantly weaker than those he launched during the previous battle.

Even so, it was enough to reap the lives of a couple of goblins when it fell on them, while sending those close to them flying.

[Killed a Level 12 Goblin. EXP +120]

[Killed a Level 11 Goblin. EXP +110]

Aurelius had kept his power to the bare minimum, as though he was an ordinary Mage.

Yet this was more than enough to attract some attention. Medea took a deeper look at him before firing another wave of arrows, while Andrea smiled.

"I didn’t expect that; besides being rich and handsome, you also possess other extraordinary qualities! Good job!" she praised and continued coordinating their group.

"Hmph! At least he’s not dead weight." A voice echoed from the front, as though its owner was afraid he would not participate.

It didn’t take long.

Less than two minutes later, the goblin squad had been wiped out. Only their sliced corpses remained, as well as scattered ashes.

Originally, Andrea had been happy to see Aurelius launch Fireball after Fireball and had even praised him a couple of times.

Now, however, she was looking at him with bloodshot eyes.

"You... You..." she pointed at him.

"You’ve destroyed all our spoils!"

"These were worth at least two gold coins back in the city. Now..."

Andrea attempted to take hold of the black ashes, only for them to slip through her fingers and fly away with the gust of the wind.

The crimson in her eyes deepened.

In her view, these were not ashes. They were gold coins!

Gold coins that had been lost!

Subconsciously, Andrea reached onto her waist and unsheathed a small dagger while sneakily moving toward Aurelius.

Aurelius felt a chill run down his spine as he sensed her killing intent. He instinctively took half a step back.

Damn it!

Was this woman trying to kill him for a couple of gold coins?

They were just a few goblin corpses!

He swore that he had never seen such a money-grabber before!

Thankfully, just when he was planning to defend himself, Medea suddenly intervened.

"Enough messing around." She raised her hand.

"Andrea, you know what the goal of today’s expedition is. We can’t afford to waste time like this."

She then turned toward Aurelius with an apologetic expression.

"Forgive her. She doesn’t have any bad intentions. It’s just that Andrea’s personality... is somewhat unusual."

Seeing the cold Medea take the initiative to apologize, Aurelius nodded, showing that he didn’t take her behavior to heart.

Secretly, his eyes gleamed. Medea’s words addressed to Andrea replayed in his mind.

’What could possibly bring the daughter of a Rank 5 Awakener to such a dangerous place? Is it a treasure? Or something else...’

Either way, to be able to catch Medea’s attention and trigger a mission, this team’s goal was not simple at all!
