My Skills Can Evolve Infinitely in a Game-Like World
Chapter 74: Unknown FigureFollowing their rest, the rest of their journey passed without any major surprises.
Just like before, every goblin squad that encountered them was met with misfortune.
By the end, the number of goblins they had slain numbered in the hundreds.
This number was truly shocking.
Yet it only revealed the goblins’ greatest strength.
There were simply too many! No matter how many one killed, there would be more!
Despite having personally killed so many, and the other adventurer teams doing the same, the enemies’ numbers had hardly diminished.
If anything, more and more goblins poured out of the Goblin Mountains.
Even Aurelius had to worry after a certain point.
If these people’s destination was the Goblin Mountains... then he would politely excuse himself and leave.
He had no intention of battling against an army of monsters just yet.
Fortunately, his worries proved meaningless.
An adventurer team that had survived for so long couldn’t possibly be so reckless.
While still far away from the monster habitat, Andrea raised her hand, gesturing for everyone to stop.
"At last, we’re here," she whispered.
Aurelius noticed that no one was surprised by her words.
Even so, perhaps for his sake, Andrea took the initiative to explain.
She raised her slender finger and pointed ahead.
Once he followed it, Aurelius noticed a vast bluish-green lake stretching for several miles, filled with lush plants and vegetation.
Compared to the surrounding wilderness, it looked extremely out of place.
"See that island?" Andrea grinned.
"You should be wondering why we’ve come so far just to take a look at a lake. Well..." she placed her finger on her lips.
"It’s because that’s not our actual goal!"
"Our objective lies on the island at its center!"
As she spoke, Andrea maintained a mysterious expression, like a diviner who was explaining the stars’ trajectory.
Such an expression made Aurelius speechless.
Especially after processing her words. She had spoken at length, yet said almost nothing of value.
Wasn’t it obvious that they had reached their destination?
As for whether their goal was the lake itself or the island, it didn’t make any difference to him.
Andrea seemed oblivious to his thoughts. She smiled playfully and was about to continue.
Thankfully, Medea intervened just in time.
"Alright. Stop making trouble." She shook her head helplessly before turning to Aurelius.
"I won’t keep it a secret for any longer. Our main goal this time is an Awakener ingredient."
"You might have heard it before..."
She paused briefly.
"It’s the Underworld Tulip."
The moment Medea uttered this term, information instinctively flashed through Aurelius’ mind.
As though an invisible hand was sifting through his memories, the relevant information appeared.
Underworld Tulip.
A rare ingredient that could be used in both Potion refining and Relic forging.
It was extremely precious, serving as the main ingredient in Rank 3 Potions and the forging of Rare Relics.
Aurelius quickly guessed why they had come to this place.
The Underworld Tulip was rumored to possess a connection to the Underworld.
Moreover, it was part of an ancient legend.
Not of one belonging to the Dawn Kingdom, but of the Amazon Jungle.
The tribes there believed that Underworld Tulips were planted along the boundary between the real world and the Underworld.
More precisely, they bloomed on an island at the center of a vast lake, where the gateway to the Underworld lay.
How similar was this tale to the sight in front of him?
Countless thoughts raced through Aurelius’ mind. With his enhanced Intelligence, he possessed photographic memory.
As such, he needed no further explanation.
His subconscious nodding caught Medea off guard.
She had expected that she would have to explain everything before Aurelius could understand the situation.
For Aurelius to know everything without needing her help...
’Andrea was right! This man must belong to a noble family!’ Medea concluded, though given her status, she didn’t pay much attention.
After confirming Aurelius was fine, she glanced at Marcus and motioned for him with her eyes.
The Shield Bearer did not hesitate.
Approaching the azure waters, he removed the giant shield resting on his back.
Under the infusion of his Mana, it rapidly expanded until it became large enough to carry the entire group.
Then, with a toss, it fell into the water and began floating along its surface.
Marcus hopped on it, causing water to splash. Even so, the shield remained steady.
After he took a few steps, confirming everything was fine, he gestured for everyone to get on.
The silent Matthew was the first one to do so, seemingly trusting his companion.
Then came Medea with a graceful step.
As for Andrea, it was only after she confirmed that the shield could float and there was no danger of getting wet that she finally hopped on.
Glancing at Marcus’ hostile gaze, Aurelius had to wonder whether he should use another method for the remaining journey.
But after Andrea’s repeated call, he gritted his teeth and jumped on the shield, bracing himself for any unexpected situation.
Fortunately, Marcus was not as childish as to try and embarrass him at times like these.
After snorting at him coldly, he manipulated the shield as though it were a boat.
Slowly, they approached the small island at the lake’s center.
No one spoke.
Aurelius noticed Andrea looked down.
Following her gaze, he looked into the water beneath the shield.
The lake was silent. Besides the small waves produced by the shield’s momentum, there was no other movement.
No fish. No plants.
Even the sky was empty. No birds or insects could be seen.
Everything was gloomy, with the air itself becoming cold.
Under such a strange atmosphere, their journey continued.
Several minutes later, the shield halted. They had finally reached the tiny island.
Dense white mist swirled around it, surrounding a white flower planted on top of a small hill.
The moment her eyes landed on it, the always-indifferent Medea’s face shone with excitement.
She hopped off the shield and landed on the island, ready to pluck it.
But just then, a figure fired out of the mist, landing on top of the hill and beside the Underworld Tulip.
An enthusiastic voice suddenly rang out.
"Chat! Chat! Are you seeing this?!"
"This flower looks incredible! Do you think it can be eaten?"
Then...
Snap.
Before anyone could react, the Underworld Tulip disappeared into the figure’s hand.
