Bang!

A heavy projectile crashed into the ground, sending a wave of flames sweeping through the surroundings and melting the snow beneath it.

A few moments later, the figures of Aurelius and Selene were revealed through the dissipating dust.

Aurelius had removed his hand from Selene’s waist and was intending to step away.

However, his attempt proved meaningless.

Not only had they failed to separate, but they were now closer than ever.

Selene’s hands held his torso, while her legs were wrapped tightly around his waist.

From Aurelius’ point of view, she looked exactly like a koala clinging to a tree.

"Cough, cough."

Suppressing his impulse to tease her, Aurelius cleared his throat to wake her up.

His goal was achieved. A moment later, the female Assassin hurriedly relaxed her grip, moving several steps away.

Anger flashed across her face, her cheeks particularly crimson.

"Tell me next time before you do something like that!"

"What if I had fallen to the ground? Do you wish to have me killed? Is this a conspiracy to break our agreement?" She loudly complained.

The more she spoke, the more furious she became.

Strangely, however, her expression told a different story.

The crimson on her cheeks gradually faded, and she regained her original countenance.

"Hmph! Don’t do it again!" She snorted coldly in the end and lowered her head.

She looked at the compass in her hand and sighed.

The trusted Relic had seemingly malfunctioned.

Its needle constantly spun, never settling in a single direction.

Selene knew that wasn’t the case. The Relic had not broken.

Rather...

"We’ve reached our destination." Selene looked at Aurelius and announced.

"The Epic Relic should be somewhere nearby. As for its exact location, I can’t pinpoint it now that the compass has stopped working."

"Thankfully, it shouldn’t be too hard to locate."

Aurelius agreed with her assumption.

By now, it was all but confirmed that the Epic Relic was the source behind the freezing temperature.

As long as they followed this clue, heading toward the coldest place, it was only a matter of time before they encountered it.

Granted, there was always a possibility that they would encounter other dangers first.

Aurelius shook his head.

He noticed that Selene didn’t move but stayed motionless, staring at him.

Although the journey till here was without danger, it was impossible to claim that it had been uneventful.

This woman, originally confident in her abilities, seemed to have second thoughts about their journey.

Aurelius didn’t try to comfort her. He gently patted her on the shoulder and let his actions speak for themselves.

After carefully surveying his surroundings, he chose a direction and started moving deeper into the mountain.

In the past, he had chased after the reckless Selene. Now, it was her turn to chase after him.

Hearing the footsteps behind him and her familiar breathing, Aurelius smiled faintly.

Unlike the towering trees of the outer layer, the vegetation atop the mountain was far less impressive.

Enveloped in dense snow like the rest of the mountain, the trees and bushes blended perfectly into the environment.

As Aurelius walked past them, he felt the temperature gradually decrease.

It had long moved below the freezing point and was now moving further down.

Had he not possessed the Awakener’s Physique, even he would have been forced to stop in his tracks.

This didn’t dampen his enthusiasm at all, however.

If anything, it filled him with joy.

He knew that they were getting closer to their final destination. They were about to meet the Epic Relic Selene had constantly mentioned.

Indeed.

Only a couple of minutes later, the trees suddenly disappeared behind them.

A flat plain emerged in their place, devoid of any plant or vegetation.

Given the surrounding landscape, the plain looked out of place.

Even so, neither Aurelius nor Selene wasted time thinking about the geographical structure of this mountain.

Their bodies were frozen—both from the cold and from the sight before them.

Aurelius’ body trembled from the cold as his gaze swept across his surroundings, fixed on the area ahead of him.

There, he saw several monsters.

A snake. A tiger. A lizard.

All belonging to a different species of monster. All exuding a powerful aura comparable to Priest Mayin.

The emotion in Aurelius’ heart, however, was not fear, but pure shock.

That was because of the state these monsters were in.

They were all frozen, encased in clear blocks of ice that tightly sealed them inside.

Their eyes were still wide open and full of horror, showing that they had sensed the danger but failed to resist it.

Signs of life could still be detected within the ice.

These beings were far from dead. They had merely been sealed, unable to escape their frozen prisons.

The reason was obvious.

Aurelius looked toward the central area of the plain.

Although the monsters were scattered across the plain, it was obvious that they had all been drawn toward that place.

As soon as Aurelius looked there, his eyes lit up.

He saw it clearly.

A blue trident floated a few inches above the ground.

More than two meters in length and surrounded by dense white mist, most of its body was concealed. Its tip seemed to emerge from another dimension, descending onto the mortal plane from a higher dimension.

Aurelius did not need Selene’s reminder.

He knew this was their goal for coming here.

It was the source behind the disturbance, and the reason that the mountain had ended in such a state.

The Epic Relic!

Aurelius’ heart burst into excitement.

An Epic Relic! Something that even Rank 4 Awakeners were not qualified to possess, similar to the Mystery Cloak he had been trying to forge.

And now, he was standing just a few steps away from one.

Aurelius wished to rush forward and collect it before anyone else could do so.

However, rationality prevailed over his instincts.

Several Rank 2 monsters had already shown what the result of acting recklessly would be.

Aurelius was not planning to become one of them, serving as an example to warn future visitors.

With that thought, he questioned his unreliable but trusted companion.

"Do you know what is going on? How can we collect this Relic?"

Fortunately, Selene had the answer to both of these questions.

"It’s said that Epic Relics can activate autonomously, without an Awakener to wield them," she explained.

"I’m afraid that this trident is currently unowned. The power that sealed these monsters is merely the result of its instinctive reaction."

Selene paused briefly, as if weighing her words.

"You should understand how dangerous it is. However, this is also your opportunity."

"To claim an unowned Epic Relic, there is only one thing you need to do..."
