My Slime Wife: Training and Pampering Her Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 94: Back HomeThe enormous body of the black alligator remained upside down on the swampy lake.
Its four legs floated motionlessly on the surface of the green water, while its massive jaws remained open, revealing its long fangs. Little by little, its body began to sink.
Lydia watched it disappear.
"Can I try to consume it?"
Before Liam could answer, the ground began to tremble.
The swamp waters formed small ripples, and some of the trees began to shake.
A message appeared before Liam’s eyes.
[Danger.]
[The dungeon will begin to disappear.]
Liam hurriedly took Lydia’s hand.
"No."
Lydia looked at him in surprise.
"What?"
"Don’t take the risk, honey. We have to get out."
They both watched as the alligator’s body disappeared completely beneath the lake.
Lydia pouted.
"But if I consumed it, I might be able to level up again. Maybe I’d even get another skill."
"We already accomplished our main objective."
Liam gently squeezed her hand.
"You’re already level sixty. You evolved. We don’t know what could happen if we stay here too long."
Lydia lowered her gaze.
"Yeah..."
"Besides, I’d rather we get out of here alive."
She smiled.
"Okay, honey."
From a few meters ahead, a voice interrupted their conversation.
"Are you two planning to stay there all night?!"
It was Chuck.
Next to him, Emily stood in front of a small pool of water that had appeared between the trees.
The surface of the water was glowing strangely.
Chuck pointed at the pool.
"This must be the exit portal! Hurry up!"
Liam looked at Lydia.
"Let’s go."
They both began running.
At that moment, Lydia’s copy carrying Owen appeared between the trees. The man was still completely unconscious, but the copy carried him without any effort.
The original Lydia looked at her husband.
"Honey, I’m sorry."
Liam raised an eyebrow.
"For what?"
"For trying to act without thinking."
Liam smiled.
"It’s okay."
Lydia took his hand again.
"Come on, honey. It must be late already."
"Yeah."
The two of them ran toward the portal, hand in hand.
◇◆◇
Lydia’s copy was the first to cross.
Her body disappeared into the glowing water along with Owen.
Emily went after her.
Then Lydia and Liam crossed.
Chuck waited a few seconds, looking back and watching the inside of the dungeon collapse.
Finally, he went through the portal.
The swamp disappeared from their sight.
Liam landed on his feet on the dirt outside the dungeon.
He took a deep breath of the fresh air.
For the first time in hours, there was no smell of decay.
He turned around.
The enormous stone tower that had served as the entrance to the dungeon was beginning to crumble.
The walls cracked.
Then they began to turn into dust.
Liam silently watched as the enormous structure slowly disappeared until nothing remained but a cloud of dust suspended in the air.
"Even after clearing several dungeons, it still amazes me to see them disappear."
Lydia stood beside him.
"It’s pretty impressive."
Meanwhile, Emily approached Lydia’s copy, who was carrying Owen.
"Leave him to me."
The woman took the unconscious man into her muscular arms.
"You can merge back with your copy now."
Lydia nodded.
The copy that had crossed first began to lose its human form.
Her body turned into a small green gelatinous sphere.
The sphere moved forward, making small hops until it reached Lydia.
"Come on."
The small mass entered Lydia’s body and disappeared.
Lydia recovered all the energy she had used during the raid.
"If you want, we can load him into my car. I can take care of hiding him from those guys who put him in the dungeon."
Chuck said.
Liam looked at him.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
Chuck shrugged.
"Besides, if we leave him lying here, he’ll probably die before he wakes up."
Liam nodded.
"Thanks."
"It’s nothing."
Emily adjusted Owen in her arms.
"Let’s go."
◇◆◇
The group began walking toward the vehicles.
Chuck walked alongside Liam, his hands in his pockets as he chewed his gum.
After a few seconds, he pulled out the gem bullets Liam had given him.
"I have to admit something."
Liam looked at him.
"What?"
"I don’t like taking orders."
Chuck gave him an amused look.
"But you’re pretty good at leading."
Liam smiled.
"Was that a compliment?"
"Don’t get used to it."
Chuck held out the bullets.
"Here. They’re yours."
Liam raised both hands.
"You don’t have to."
"You sure?"
"Consider them a gift."
Chuck raised an eyebrow.
"A gift?"
"I’m sure they’ll come in handy."
Chuck smiled.
"Then..."
He put the bullets away again.
"I guess you’re a good man."
Before Liam could respond, he felt a weight on his back.
"Lydia!"
His slime wife had jumped onto him.
Lydia wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder.
"My husband is a great man."
She kissed him on the cheek.
Liam blushed.
"Why are you doing this in front of them?"
"Because I can."
Liam laughed as he held Lydia’s legs, which were wrapped around his waist.
Emily watched them.
"You two are a pretty weird married couple."
Chuck nodded.
Lydia smiled.
"Is that a bad thing?"
"No."
Emily smiled.
"Actually, I thought it was pretty cool to share a raid with you guys."
Lydia raised her head.
"And your Awakening is amazing."
Emily smiled proudly.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I was seriously impressed seeing you fight with your electrical powers, and that teleportation thing is so cool."
"I like hearing that."
Chuck twirled the gem bullets between his fingers.
"Although I’m still thinking about these."
Liam looked at him.
"About what?"
"About them being empty."
"Empty?"
"Yeah. They’re not imbued with any energy."
Chuck put the bullets away and pulled out one of his knives.
It was different from the others.
The blade had a reddish hue and glowed faintly under the starlight.
"This one, for example, is imbued with fire energy."
Liam studied the knife.
"Then why didn’t you use it during the fight?"
Emily closed her eyes.
"Oh, no..."
Chuck looked at her.
"What?"
"He’s about to start with his sob story."
"It’s not a sob story!"
Chuck sighed.
"This knife was made by a craftsman friend of mine."
He raised the blade.
"The gem used to make it came from a C-rank dungeon."
Liam listened attentively.
"And who imbued it with the energy?"
"A hunter I used to clear dungeons with before I became a hunter."
Chuck’s tone changed, and his smile disappeared.
"He was the one who imbued it."
Lydia asked softly:
"What happened to your friend?"
Chuck put the knife away.
"He didn’t make it out of a dungeon in time because he was gathering materials to sell outside."
Liam felt curious.
’What exactly happens when a dungeon disappears?’
But he looked at Chuck’s face.
He didn’t seem ready to talk about it.
So Liam decided to keep the question to himself.
It wasn’t the right time.
◇◆◇
They finally reached the vehicles.
Emily opened the rear doors of her truck, and Chuck settled Owen into the back seats of his Impala.
The man was still asleep.
Chuck closed the door.
"Well, guys. I think that’s enough adventure for today."
He adjusted his jacket.
"Have a great night."
Liam smiled.
"Thanks for coming."
"See you at the Squad Selection."
"See you."
Lydia raised a hand.
"See you later, Chuck!"
Emily also said goodbye.
"See you around, partner."
Chuck got into his vehicle and started the engine.
The sound of the Impala’s engine echoed across the clearing.
Before leaving, he rolled down the window.
"And don’t forget that I was part of this too when you guys become famous!"
Liam burst out laughing.
"Of course!"
Chuck drove off.
The Impala disappeared down the road into the distance.
Emily looked at Liam and Lydia.
"Want me to give you guys a ride home?"
Lydia smiled.
"I’d really appreciate it."
Emily pointed toward her truck.
"Then get in. It’s freezing out here."
Liam looked up at the night sky.
Then he looked at Lydia.
"I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to get home this badly."
Lydia smiled.
"Me neither."
They both got into Emily’s vehicle.
And as the truck began to drive away from the place where that dungeon had once existed, Liam couldn’t help but think about everything that had happened.
But there was something else occupying his mind more than anything.
The Squad Selection was less than two days away.
And after everything that had happened over the past month...
Liam was even more eager than before to find out what awaited them.
