My SSS-Rank Innate skill: Infinite Adaptation core
Chapter 162: What are the rules? After all, Lorcan was a well-known and feared Demon General throughout the Abyss. His reputation alone was enough to command the attention of everyone present.
As the arena fell completely silent, every demon focused on him, eager to hear what he was about to announce. Nova and his group also turned their attention toward Genral Lorcan.
Lorcan’s commanding voice echoed across the arena. "Today, we have all gathered here to witness a duel between two warriors of the Abyss!"
"I, a humble general under His Majesty Demon Lord Kharos, shall serve as both host and referee for this match!"
The crowd of demons erupted into loud cheers, shouting and clapping at his words.
Lorcan continued,
"One of the combatants is our Prince Vex — known for his great strength and for having killed the most demonic beasts on the Fourth Level among all the children of the Demon Lord!"
"Prince Vex, please take your position in the arena!"The moment the words left Lorcan’s mouth, Vex leapt high into the air and landed heavily on the arena floor.
The ground trembled from the impact, yet it did not crack — the platform had been specially reinforced to withstand the power of Emperor Realm powerhouse.
Vex raised both arms and waved toward the crowd. The demons went completely wild, their enthusiastic roars shaking the entire arena.
Nova carefully observed him. On the surface, Vex was releasing the aura of a peak King Realm expert.
However, when Nova used Absolute Appraisal Eyes, the truth became clear — Vex was a genuine Level 1 Emperor, and he was stronger than that level 1 Emperor demonic beasts Nova had faced in the Abyssal Beast Forest.
That could only mean one thing.
{ He’s on the verge of breaking through to Level 2 of the Emperor Realm. This could be extremely dangerous for you. You might even lose your life if Nyxara is unable to protect you in time. }
Nova turned toward Nyxara. Her beautiful face was twisted in pure rage.
"That crazy bitch actually dared to send an Emperor who is already on the verge of breaking through to Level 2..."
As a Sovereign, Nyxara could naturally see through the true strength of anyone weaker than herself. Even Velena, whose expression was usually completely blank, now showed clear traces of worry.
Nyxara was about to step forward when Nova suddenly reached out and held her hand.
"Calm down. He’s suppressing his power right now. Maybe he actually intends to fight me at my level."
For some reason, Nyxara did not pull her hand away. Nova had grabbed it subconsciously.
"What if he tries to kill you?" she asked coldly. "I can already tell that General Lorcan is here specifically to stop me from interfering. There’s no other reason for a high-ranking figure like him to host this event personally."
"Yes, Lord Nova," Velena added quietly. "This is truly dangerous. Please let Princess Nyxara stop it now."
Nova looked at both of them and gave a small smile.
"I know it’s dangerous. But I once had a close friend whose situation was similar to yours, Nyxara. And you are the eldest princess of this territory."
"We’ve already come this far. We can’t go back on our word now, even if it seems like a stupid choice. If the odds are against me... then I’ll just have to do the impossible."
Nyxara didn’t know how to respond. Suddenly, her heart felt strangely warm, and it began beating much faster. Nova was still holding her hand. Her beautiful crimson eyes stared at him in silence.
She couldn’t remember the last time someone had cared about her this much — not since her mother and Velena.
And now this man, whom she had nearly killed several times only a few days ago, was standing here ready to risk his life for her.
She had brought him to the 3rd level for her own selfish reasons. Although he had defiled her, even she knew it had not truly been his fault. At her core, she was still a good person. Her mother had taught her never to harm those who had done her no wrong.
And now this man, who barely even knew her, was willing to risk everything for her sake.
Her usual cold and haughty expression began to crack. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she forced them back with great effort.
Nova finally released her hand. He tightened the straps on his boots, tied his hair, and looked at Velena.
"Velena, believe me. You didn’t get to see what I can really do back in the forest."
Velena raised her eyebrows slightly. She didn’t fully understand what he meant. Was he saying he could actually fight Vex? Even her usually calm heart felt strangely heavy.
Nova then turned back to Nyxara, his expression serious.
"Just promise me one thing."
"I’m going to reveal most of my secrets here. I won’t hold back my power. I’m also certain that demons from the other royal clans have already sneaked into this place to watch."
"The moment the duel ends — whether I win or lose — you have to get me out of here immediately."
There was a certain trust and quiet sincerity in Nova’s voice that Nyxara found herself unable to refuse, even if she wanted to.
"I promise," she answered almost immediately.
Nova smiled. His already handsome face looked even more dashing in that moment. Standing there with his toned, bare upper body, he truly resembled a mighty warrior. The sight made Nyxara’s cheeks flush red. Even Velena quietly gulped.
As Nova lightly flexed his muscles, more than a few demonesses in the arena found themselves unable to look away.
As the cheers for Vex gradually quieted down, Lorcan raised his voice once more.
"And the other combatant — the one who has accepted Queen Lily’s challenge in order to prove his worthiness to stand beside the eldest daughter of the Demon Lord, Princess Nyxara!"
"We do not know much about his past achievements. However, his greatest feat is that he has managed to earn the affection of our Princess Nyxara. In addition, he carries the royal blood of a certain clan that none of us currently recognize."
The moment those words left Lorcan’s mouth, the entire arena erupted into loud murmuring.
It was considered impossible for any demon to possess a true royal bloodline outside of the five existing royal clans. That left only one shocking possibility in the minds of the audience.
Had the Demon God himself blessed this man’s bloodline?
Deep within the crowd, at the far end of a shadowed corner, a cloaked figure stood silently. Her face was completely hidden, yet the mature and alluring curves of her body were impossible to conceal beneath the fabric.
She had completely suppressed her aura to the point that even Nyxara would not be able to detect her if she did not wish it. From the moment Nova entered the arena, her eyes had never left him.
His charm was difficult to ignore, and she had already decided that she wanted to make him hers no matter what.
But now that she had heard such interesting news, her interest in him grew even stronger. A soft, low voice escaped her lips.
"I’m sorry, little girl... but Auntie will have to steal your husband."
Back in the center of the arena, Lorcan continued.
"This duel is truly going to be interesting. Now then... let us welcome the warrior Nova! Please take your position!"
Neither Nova nor Nyxara were particularly surprised that so much information about him had already been gathered.
The purity of his bloodline was nearly impossible to completely hide while he remained in his demon form, even with Origin Concealment. But it no longer mattered.
He no longer intended to hide it.
If he wanted to grow stronger, he had to go all out with everything he had. Otherwise, he would lose everything without even trying. Right now, he preferred the first option.
Nova’s figure suddenly blurred. In the next instant, he appeared in the middle of the arena.
His tall, handsome, and powerfully built body now stood clearly in view of everyone present. Although the cheers he received were far fewer compared to those for Vex,
most of the voices supporting him belonged to the female demons in the crowd... along with those who favored Nyxara.
Vex looked down at Nova with an evil grin.
"Ready to die, dear brother-in-law? You shouldn’t have accepted this challenge. You should have just hidden behind your wife like the pussy you are."
Nova’s expression remained completely calm. He was not the type to lose his temper over cheap provocations.
"Sorry to disappoint you," he replied evenly, "but I’m not the pussy you think I am. I’m standing right here to beat the crap out of you."
"Hahahaha! You? Beat me?!"
Vex threw his head back and laughed loudly, his massive eight-foot frame shaking with amusement. If Nova wanted, he could have increased his own height to match him, but he saw no need to.
Ignoring the laughter, Nova simply looked up at Lorcan and asked in a clear voice,
"What are the rules?"
