My Succubus Harem System In The Reverse World
Chapter 40: Waking Up Destabilized and UnbuttonedChapter 40: Chapter 40: Waking Up Destabilized and Unbuttoned
I woke up with a headache.
What the fuck?
Last night was still sharp in my memory: Jenna’s mouth, the heat, the way she looked up at me with my release covering her face, and then nothing.
Just a black wall.
One second I was still buzzing with energy, the next I was staring at the ceiling with my skull throbbing.
"You’re awake."
Jenna stood near the door, already dressed in a black blouse and dark pants, hair tied back in a neat bun.
She looked completely composed, as the previous night had never happened.
I pushed myself up on my elbows.
"I don’t remember how I fell asleep."
"You probably overloaded." Her voice was calm, almost clinical.
"Your core was still running hot. I gave it a little push so you’d actually rest."
Huh? Did she use her powers on me?
The realization sat awkwardly between us. I had fainted, or been forced to sleep, after getting head.
Not exactly the most dignified way to end the night.
"Freshen up," she said, turning away.
"I’ll explain the rules of the simulation while you eat."
I dragged myself out of bed, took a quick shower, and pulled on the simple dark clothes that had been left for me. When I checked my status in the mirror, the numbers were almost disappointing.
[Name: Revien]
[Class: Succubus]
[Level: 17]
[Attributes]
Strength: 29
Agility: 26
Vitality: 23
Mana: 79
Perception: 31
Charm: 90
Only one level.
After everything that happened last night, I expected more.
[Host body is progressing at a normal pace. Anything faster and you risk destabilizing your core.]
So even I had that limit.
[Yes. You can handle higher output if you understand your thresholds. Right now you do not.]
I dismissed the window and walked out to the dining table. Jenna had already set out breakfast: eggs, toast, and strong coffee.
We ate in relative silence for a few minutes before I finally asked the question that had been sitting in the back of my head.
"Are the people taking the test with me also joining the Academy?"
"Most of them, yes. This is their first real experience as well."
She took a sip of coffee.
"Some will wash out. Some will be offered contracts. A few might even catch the eye of larger guilds."
"And the rules?"
Jenna set her mug down and summoned a large translucent screen above the table.
Rows of text and diagrams floated in the air between us.
"First," she began, "you will enter the simulation room wearing a specialized suit. The suit monitors your vitals in real time, mimics the physical feedback of actual combat, and keeps your core stable if your output spikes too hard. You will feel pain. You will feel exhaustion. You will feel the impact of every hit. The only thing that won’t happen is permanent injury."
"So it hurts, but it doesn’t kill."
"Correct. The first floor is a standard D-rank environment. Low-level monsters, tight corridors, a few environmental hazards. Your objective is simple on paper: clear the floor, locate the boss chamber, and attempt the boss. No one expects a full clear from a first-time group. What the evaluators care about is how you move as a unit, how you communicate under pressure, and whether the support can keep the frontline alive without collapsing."
I leaned forward, studying the layout.
"Why not expect a win?"
"Because measuring pure result tells us very little. A team that scrapes through by sacrificing half their members is less valuable than a team that retreats cleanly after achieving secondary objectives. We want to see decision-making, not just numbers."
She swiped the screen, bringing up a list of roles.
"You will be assigned three Vanguard trainees. All female. All roughly the same age range as Gianna. None of them have worked with a male support before, so expect some friction. Your job is to keep them standing. Buff when necessary, cover blind spots, and don’t let your output spiral out of control."
I thought about the glass spheres from yesterday and the headache that still hadn’t completely faded.
"And if I lose control?"
"The suit will throttle you. But if you push past its limits, the simulation will forcibly eject you. That counts as a failure for the entire team."
Great.
Jenna dismissed the screen and looked at me directly.
"One more thing. Gianna will not be there. She has her own rotation today. Do not try to contact her through the chain once you’re inside. The simulation is a closed environment. Outside links are blocked."
"I can’t contact her. It doesn’t work like that."
"Hmm. Interesting. So you can’t feel the person you bound once?"
"Nope. Also, it only works a few meters now, so the attack is pretty basic."
"Then there’s nothing to worry about."
I nodded, though part of me was already calculating the range limit I had tested last night.
Fifty meters.
Probably useless inside a sealed chamber anyway.
We finished breakfast in silence.
The weight of the upcoming test settled heavier the longer we sat there.
Last night’s conversation still lingered in the back of my mind, Jenna’s warning that I couldn’t belong to just one person, the way she had looked at me when she said it. I still didn’t know how I felt about any of it.
For someone like me who came from Earth, having multiple partners only gives momentary happiness.
To manage them all is a completely different, difficult task in reality.
When I stood to get ready, Jenna stopped me with a hand on my arm.
"Revien."
I met her eyes.
"Don’t try to prove anything in there. Survive. Observe. Come back in one piece. The real evaluation starts after the simulation, not during it."
"Understood."
She held my gaze a moment longer, then released me.
"The car will be here in twenty minutes. Don’t be late."
I headed back to the bedroom to finish getting ready, the faint taste of last night still somewhere in the back of my throat, and the system quietly waiting for whatever came next.
