Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Saved From the Milking Lab

Gianna’s red eyes were blazing, but I could see the nervous flutter of her eyelashes.

She was flustered, and it was adorable.

"You could try," I challenged, leaning down just a fraction so we were practically nose to nose.

"But we both know how that ended last time. Unless you want me to tie you up again right here in front of all these people?"

She is so tense, I bet one touch would send her over the edge.

"You are a pervert," she hissed, though she stubbornly refused to step back.

The heat radiating off her body was palpable.

"And you are a sore loser," I shot back.

"Come on, Gia. You can act all tough, but I saw the way you looked at me when those chains pulled tight. You were drained, helpless on the floor, and I think you secretly loved every second of it."

Gianna gasped, her eyes going wide.

"I did not! I hated it! You stole my mana!"

"I also stole your breath," I whispered, dropping my voice just enough to make it intimate.

"You were panting, looking up at me like you wanted me to do a whole lot more than just drain your energy. Don’t lie, Gia. My senses literally told me you submitted."

"That was a mistake!" she argued, crossing her arms defensively, though she was practically squirming on the spot.

"My willpower is fine. You just caught me off guard because I didn’t expect you to have magic ropes."

"Ropes, chains, whatever you want to call them. They clearly worked."

I reached out and gently tapped the tip of her nose.

"Now, where are we going? You are supposed to be showing me the sights, babysitter."

Gianna swatted my hand away, though there was no real heat behind it anymore.

She just looked thoroughly overwhelmed by the entire conversation, which meant I was definitely winning this round.

"Don’t call me babysitter," she grumbled, turning around and marching down the neon-lit street again.

"We are going to the shopping district. You need clothes that don’t make you look like a lost puppy, and then I am going to buy the most expensive lunch I can find and put it entirely on Mom’s tab."

"Sounds like a date," I teased, falling into step beside her.

"I know how this works. First, you buy me clothes, then you buy me food, and the next thing I know, you are asking for a private buff session behind a dumpster."

"A dumpster?!" she shrieked, scandalized.

"It is not a date! And I have standards!"

"If you say so," I hummed, sliding my hands into my pockets and ignoring the amused looks we were getting from the crowds.

"But if you play your cards right today, I might just let you hold my hand so you don’t get lost."

Gianna let out a long, suffering sigh, glaring straight ahead as the bright lights reflected in her vibrant eyes.

"I’m going to throw you into the first dungeon gate we see. I swear I will."

"You wouldn’t do that," I replied, leaning in close enough that my shoulder brushed lightly against hers.

"Who else is going to power you up when things get tough?"

She didn’t push me away.

A tiny, almost invisible smile tugged at the very corner of her mouth before she quickly hid it behind a scowl.

"Shut up, Revien."

We kept walking down the crowded street, weaving past groups of women who simply could not stop staring at me.

I mostly ignored the looks and focused on Gianna, matching her quick pace while the neon lights painted the pavement in bright pinks and blues.

The whole city buzzed with energy, but something else was occupying my mind.

Something had been bothering me since we left the registration desk at the guild.

"Hey, Gia," I said, bumping my shoulder lightly against hers to get her attention.

"The women, back when we exited, called me a subject earlier. What does that mean?"

She stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and looked at me like I was an idiot.

The crowd flowed around us while she crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow in disbelief.

"Is your memory really gone?" she asked, her tone entirely skeptical. "Like, completely wiped out?"

"Kinda," I admitted.

"I really don’t remember much of anything before waking up in your mom’s bed this morning."

Gianna rolled her eyes at the mention of her mother, but her expression turned a bit more serious as we started walking again.

She kept her voice low, ensuring the passing pedestrians wouldn’t overhear our conversation.

"Not every man is useful like you, Revien," she started, staring straight ahead at the glowing storefronts.

"Some people are simply locked away for breeding purposes."

"Huh?" I blinked, caught off guard by the blunt statement.

It’s not like I thought it was impossible.

"So how many women did those guys have to sleep with?"

"It isn’t like that," Gianna said quickly, shaking her head.

"Their sperm is what we need to keep the population going. Sex isn’t necessary at all unless we specifically ask for it, so most of the time, the government just milks them dry and uses the genetics to try and produce heirs."

I winced, instinctively crossing my legs a little tighter as a cold shiver ran down my spine.

That sounded like a nightmare. Being strapped to some clinical machine and drained every day instead of actually enjoying the process was a terrible way to live.

"So they just live in a lab forever?"

"Exactly," she confirmed, gesturing vaguely toward the towering, heavily guarded buildings in the distance.

"That’s how the Academy is filled. Although most of the kids born from that process are still girls like me, there are a few guys that pop up occasionally. The men who are born usually possess different abilities to help us fight the monsters in the gates, and only those who are actually beneficial are allowed outside the facilities."

She paused, shooting me a complicated look.

"You were in a lab, Revien. Your initial awakening tests gave an exceptionally promising result, so Mom pulled a lot of strings and bought your contract for her guild before the central government could lock you away permanently."

"I don’t think they’d agree that easily."

"They didn’t. That’s why we need to show results."

I thought about it for a second, realizing just how insanely lucky I was that the system gave me a class completely built around physical intimacy.

If my stats were normal, I would probably be hooked up to a tube right now instead of walking around the city with a beautiful vanguard.
