It really looked like sleepwalking.

Jared’s eye twitched twice as he followed behind her, watching where she was headed. The old Melody had never had anything like this.

The servants in the hall had gone to bed early. Melody walked down the stairs, then into the kitchen, deftly took some vegetables out and started cooking.

Jared called Leon Rivers. "What do you do about sleepwalking?"

"Your sister‑in‑law?"

"Who else?"

"If she’s really sleepwalking, you absolutely can’t try to wake her up. You need to guide her back to bed." Leon scratched his hair. "Do you want me to come over?"

Jared glanced at the pajamas Melody was wearing. "No need."

In the kitchen, Melody was quietly sitting and eating. The food she’d made was especially delicate. After she finished, she carried it out and set it on the table in the hall. Jared saw the dish was Timmy’s favorite and his brow twitched hard.

No one knew how long it was before she seemed to get tired, then went to bed, lay down, and started snoring away.

Jared: "..."

He took off his clothes, got into bed, pulled her into his arms, and slept with her.

In the morning, Melody was inexplicably dragged off to do a bunch of tests.

Leon came to a conclusion. "Her sleepwalking might be caused by those subconscious memories of hers. Don’t be scared—could even be a good thing. Once the blood clots in her brain completely clear up, she might actually get her memory back."

"I sleepwalked last night?" Melody’s expression was like she’d been struck by lightning. How could she have sleepwalked?

"It’s fine, you didn’t do anything. You just walked around the hall once and went back to bed," Jared comforted her.

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Going to the office?" Leon packed up the medical kit.

"Yeah." Jared stood up and took Melody’s small hand. "Want to come with me?"

"No. I want to stay home and keep Timmy company." Melody shook her head. She was afraid if she went out she’d cause a traffic jam. A lot of people were still waiting for an explanation about that incident where she hit someone.

"Then stay here and be good." Jared bent down and kissed her forehead.

"Mm."

After Jared left, Melody called Nina King. "Come pick me up."

She wanted to go check out the bar where she’d hit someone, hopefully jog her memory about what exactly she’d done.

She did remember that she’d taken a swing.

Nina picked her up and the two of them went to the bar. Afraid of being recognized, they deliberately disguised themselves.

"That day I was sitting right here drinking with Kiki Sutton." Melody ordered the same drinks they’d had that night.

"And I’ll play the little punk. I’m going to make a move on you." Nina snorted with laughter, then slung an arm around her shoulder.

"No, that guy didn’t touch my shoulder."

"Then maybe he just got horny, came over like this, and tried to kiss you?" Nina bent down, acting like she was going to kiss her.

"Beep." Someone whistled in their direction.

Melody: "Get away from me."

Nina: "...I don’t think this is going to work. We’d better just wait for Jared’s news."

"Or I could have a drink. Maybe if I drink, I’ll remember." Melody said.

"No, you better not drink. You’re sitting right here and still can’t remember a thing, drinking won’t help. I’m scared you’ll just cause more trouble. There are so many people—if we get exposed, it’ll be bad. Let’s just head back first."
