My Superpower Is Piloting Magical Girl Corpses?

Chapter 1: I’m Going to Save the World, Women Are Just a Nuisance

The setting sun stretched long shadows over the city.

Right now, this scene was so textbook-perfect that it could have been ripped straight from a bad TV drama script.

“No—! Help!”

A girl’s shrill scream tore through the stillness of the dimly lit alley.

A young girl in an exquisite white summer dress was pressed tightly against the wall, trembling.

She had a slender figure, a pretty face, and her jet-black, silky hair fell messily over her shoulders.

The three scruffy men surrounding her stared with hungry eyes.

“Tch, lucky break.”

The leader, a guy with a scarred face, greedily scanned the girl named Xia Yao’s smooth, bare thighs. “Was just planning to hustle some cash for internet, didn’t expect to find a top-tier catch. This is my type. These legs alone are worth a year of fun.”

One of the thugs, covered in tattoos, swallowed hard and rubbed his hands impatiently. “Boss, there’s no cameras here, it’s remote. Even if she screamed her throat out, nobody would hear...”

He flashed a sleazy grin. “How about we have a little fun first?”

Xia Yao clutched her school bag, staring at them in terror, too scared to move.

Tap.

Just then, the sound of slow, steady footsteps came from the entrance of the alley.

The three men whipped their heads around, glaring.

Against the dim light, a sturdy figure walked forward.

It was a tall, lean youth, about six feet tall, with black hair and dark eyes, his features cold and sharp.

The Secret State student summer uniform was notoriously thin, now slightly damp with sweat, clinging to his frame and outlining his lean, muscular build beneath.

However, this cold aura was slightly ruined by what he was carrying—his school bag hung over his left shoulder, and in his right hand, he held a plastic bag that screamed everyday life. Through the transparent plastic, you could vaguely make out a box of discounted eggs and a few green onions poking out.

“Where did this brat come from?” The tattooed guy hefted the wooden club in his hand, his face twisting into a fierce scowl. “What are you looking at? If you don’t want to die, get lost!”

The youth acted as if he hadn’t heard, not slowing his pace at all. His expression was completely blank, like a deaf or blind person.

But his steady, approaching footsteps clearly gave the answer.

This complete disregard instantly set the thug leader’s temper on fire. “Trying to be a hero? You’re asking for a beating! Kill him!”

The three burly men surrounded him in a triangle formation, their footsteps steady, their bodies solid. Clearly, they weren’t just small-time punks trying to sound tough.

Thud! Thud! Slap!

“Aahh!!”

After a few rapid, muffled sounds, the three thugs, who had been so arrogant moments before, were now curled up on the ground like dead dogs, groaning in agony, too weak to even stand.

Expressionless, the youth flicked his wrist once, collapsing the black expandable baton in his hand, and skillfully slipped it back into his school bag.

He didn’t even have a catch in his breath. He simply lifted the eggs he was holding a little higher to make sure they didn’t break.

“Boo-hoo... Lin Guang, you saved me again...”

Xia Yao rushed over, her eyes full of tears, and clung to his arm with practiced familiarity. “You always appear at the worst moments to rescue me. I’ve lost count of how many times this is. Ninety? A hundred? It’s fate’s plan, I’ll just have to repay you by marrying you...”

Faced with the beautiful girl’s intimate approach, the youth named Lin Guang couldn’t be bothered to respond. He calmly pulled his arm free, set the bag of eggs on the ground, and took out a small notebook from his pocket.

Seeing this, Xia Yao peeked her little head over to look at the notebook.

On the yellowed pages, names were written densely, like an accounting ledger.

After each name was a phone number, and then, a lonely one or two strokes.

But behind the name “Xia Yao” and her phone number, the gray-black ink was shocking. Eight complete “tally marks,” arranged neatly like a brick wall, spanned two lines of text, silently testifying to the astonishing frequency of this girl’s disasters.

Lin Guang held the pen, adding a second stroke to the ninth tally mark.

“Tch, so it’s only the 42nd time.”

Xia Yao’s pitiful expression instantly disappeared, replaced by a mischievous, devilish grin.

She covered her mouth and let out a “kuku” laugh, then, right in front of Lin Guang, she casually lifted the hem of her skirt just a little, revealing her dazzlingly white, delicate thighs. Her gaze was practically syrupy. “Instead of marking it in the notebook, I’d rather you mark me~”

Lin Guang didn’t even raise an eyelid. He closed the notebook and directly held out his open palm to the girl.

“Ugh, you’re such a stick in the mud...” Xia Yao puffed out her cheeks, wearing a disappointed expression.

She fished out a white and green wallet with a cartoon green onion face on it from her small bag and skillfully counted out a few bills—six red hundred-yuan notes, four blue ten-yuan notes, and eight green one-yuan notes.

Xia Yao never understood why this boy always asked for this exact amount, with odd change and all.

She rolled her eyes. “Here you go, you money-grubber!”

Slap. The money smacked into Lin Guang’s palm.

Lin Guang expertly pinched the middle of the stack with his thumb, gave them a quick flick, his fingertips sweeping the edges of the bills to confirm the thickness was right. Then he quickly folded them and tucked them into his pocket, the movement smooth and fluid, even more efficient than his fighting just moments ago. After that, he turned and started walking.

“Hey! Are you really just going to leave?” Xia Yao called out behind him, her voice laced with disbelief. “Leaving a fragile, beautiful girl alone in a place like this?”

Lin Guang didn’t look back. His steps remained steady.

After all, this whole thing was Xia Yao’s own elaborate setup.

Ever since he had saved her once in an accident a year ago...

This rich young lady had seemed to flip some strange switch and had completely latched onto him.

At first, she’d only had people stuff supermarket flyers with special deals through the crack in his door. Then, timing her actions perfectly with his shopping trips, she’d wander around deserted, secluded alleys, and right on cue, she’d send him a text saying something like “I’m scared” or “I’m lost,” complete with her location, as if terrified he wouldn’t find her.

It wasn’t that Lin Guang was dense. He’d already caught a glimpse of a high-voltage stun gun and a powerful pepper spray canister in her poorly zipped bag.

And rumor had it she was the daughter of some big conglomerate chairman, so she probably had personal bodyguards following her nearby.

But Lin Guang wasn’t all that interested in her background.

Later on, probably because she realized there weren’t enough thugs running around, or maybe because it was still a bit dangerous, she’d simply started paying her own bodyguards to act the part. The men lying on the ground right now were familiar faces—they were old pros. Even though they put on heavy makeup and even stuck on fake tattoos every time, Lin Guang saw through them in a single glance.

He saw through the whole act, but since this Miss was willing to throw her money around, he didn’t bother to argue. At most, he’d go a little easier on these poor, familiar bodyguards during the fights, making sure they’d be up and hopping the next day without any bruises or side effects.

Rich people had all sorts of weird quirks. It was normal. Xia Yao’s only weird thing was this kidnapping fetish, which was already pretty good by comparison. At least she wasn’t hurting anyone else.

Plus, this wasn’t the country from his past life. It was a huge city called Wind Capital, in a country named the Secret State.

The city was enormous, and with security cameras not yet having been widely installed... even though the technology wasn’t backward, the public safety was a bit worrisome. It wasn’t even as good as the environment of his previous life around the year 2000. There were plenty of chaotic, lively social groups around.

...And that was precisely why he was able to thrive so easily.

“Hey! Wait for me!”

Xia Yao stubbornly followed, blocking Lin Guang’s path, lifting her head like a swan. “Why are you always so dismissive!”

Lin Guang stopped, glanced down at her chest, a flicker of genuine disdain flashing in his eyes.

“I’m a man who’s going to save the world. Women are just a nuisance.”

With that, Lin Guang stepped around the slightly stunned girl and strode away.

Xia Yao stood there, her mouth twitching.

This was already the twenty-fifth time he’d used that exact line to turn down her confession! Whose famous quote was that anyway? She’d never heard of it!

Even though she’d specifically studied all that otaku, anime, and video game stuff just to chase after him, she still couldn’t understand what went on inside this guy’s head.

Was this what they called “chuunibyou”? A middle school syndrome case?

But they were both third-years in high school, adults already.

“How did I end up falling for a guy with a screw loose...”

She sighed, holding her head, but then a sincere, excited look appeared on her face.

If he didn’t have a screw loose, she wouldn’t be this interested in him!

Xia Yao hopped along behind the boy.

“Hey! Lin Guang! I want to come see your place!”

Lin Guang seemed too lazy to refuse out loud, and Xia Yao took his silence as agreement.

The two of them walked one after the other, emerging from the complex alleyway.

What came into view was a massive windmill in the distance.
